Lighthouse Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 it also says 3 hours on my satnav from plymouth to southampton...generally, it takes far longer... anyway..you are right, I was exaggerating Surely if it takes far longer, it's even closer to the time it takes to get from Southampton to Notts. Anyway, fairly trivial stuff. It's not a local derby though.
yorkie Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 I am strangely amused by this thread - such is my want. I actually think a crowd of just over 10,000 isn't that bad in an event we have shown very little interest in over the years! Let's hope this season is the last time we have to enter the competiton at this stage! Cheap tickets were not the answer either - no disrespect to Shrewsbury but they aren't exactly a big draw are they? Tribute to the brave 727 who ventured to SMS - I guess we sang "You'll never play here again" at them after a while! I shelled out to go to Notts County, then managed to get back to Southampton for the Daggers game - and already booked to go to Carlisle and Peterborough games. The league is much more important than the Cup to me and I guess many others. The FA Cup is a nice distraction to keep the lads fit, pick up bookings and injuries - but at this level why would anyone get booked in a glorified training game (according to some)? What really matters is our league form until after Christmas. Sure a 3rd round tie against a big team would be nice, with a good display but ultimately a defeat (home or away). Now regardless of the number of games I plan between now and then if we get Pompey again in the 3rd round (sorry Cheltenham but you won't win - will you?) I predict SMS will be full again with people fighting for tickets. So I would expect a decent crowd of 20,000+ again for Peterborough - and if we win at Carlisle possibly 24,000+ would be a good indicator of people beginning to see the light under the new Manager. Saints of old always managed to let us down after stringing a few results together, and we'd get all complaicent. The team has more resolve, they are given clear instruction and direction. Neither Carlisle or Peterborough will be easy games - but at least we won't go out with the same tactics and game plan against two teams up there with us! Chez Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 I made a big mistake moving from my Seat in the Kingsland North across to the Itchen (and sitting closer to the half way line) rather than going in the Northam. I thought the atmosphere was woeful for the whoe stadium, but especially in this area. I normally sing up, but you kind of feel subsconscious when all around you are not even clapping along to OWTS. I won't make that mistake again. I'm not sure how much money is saved by closing those stands but it just doesn't feel right to me. I thought the 700 odd Shrewsbury supported their side brilliantly. benjii Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 I bet the ones who had great excuses not to make the game, will be free for a third round game against The Skates or Man Utd. Who needs an "excuse" FFS?!
benjii Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 I felt a bit subconscious the other day too Chez, but I couldn't be sure what it all meant.

Window Cleaner Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 it also says 3 hours on my satnav from plymouth to southampton...generally, it takes far longer... anyway..you are right, I was exaggerating probably because you don't drive fast enough then.Satnavs work like that, if the speed limit is 70 mph then they expect you to roll at 70 not 65 or 58. boxosponge Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 Wonder what the attendance would have been like if we had have charged £25 a ticket? - 1 that I can speak for
Chez Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 I wonder how many more we would have got if it had been £10? A thousand more perhaps?
ericofarabia Posted 9 November, 2010 Author Share Posted 9 November, 2010 In the same way that Saints game at Notts Co last weekend was a local derby. I purposely put it as "local derbys" rather plain factual Local Derbys. To Plymouth Fans, Swindon is one of their nearest clubs to visit (in fact they probably have to go thru or past Swindon to get to 90% of their away trips), so I'm sure there must be some sort of west country rivalry between them. Of course Swindon were the team having to travel, but you'd have thought that a match featuring 2 of the "bigger"(LOL) teams from L1 with the west country interest, could muster up a few more fans between them!!.
