dune Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 I may have to go to Scotland to work for a few months in Glasgow, will be staying in the city centre near the office if I do go. Can anyone who has actually been to Glasgow and stayed for more than five minutes tell me what it's like there? The city centre is very bland imo. It's much like Liverpool with the Albert dock area. I didn't see any sectarianism and the city centre seemed like a neutral zone, but noticed a pub wth a sign saying no football shirts. A few of us stayed there when Saints were on the Scotland pre season friendly and i'd recommend you don't find a cheap city centre hotel. Reckon ours was full of DSS smackheads. Plenty of good places to eat and drink, has been voted Curry Capital of Britain in the past. Shopping area is very extensive and parts of it are very smart but you're never too far from some very shabby looking areas. The "west end" is varied and pretty upmarket. Have been quite a few times and think that generally as a city it looks rougher than it really is and people are in the main warm and friendly. The surrounding countryside is a big plus, Loch Lomond is stunning.
dune Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 Loch Lomond is stunning. It's a nice drive past loch Lomand and through Glen Coe up to Fort William.

SuperMikey Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 The West coast of Scotland is one of the most beautiful places in the UK, just a shame about Aberdeen and Dundee. Edinburgh and Perth are two lovely cities, and some of the countryside around there (Perthshire hills, Cairngorms, Speyside, Elgin coast) is just amazing. Not the best place to be a young person (except Edinburgh), but my favourite place in the world after St Mary's!
