We need a different option to Lambert and Barnard...Waigo last season gave us that - someone with pace and guile who could get

the defence turning and facing their own goal. Neither Lambert or Barnard can do this and we rely on quick to feet passing to set them up - something that we didnt do well yesterday it was all too slow a tempo.

That is what I think is missing pace up front so the midfield can hit the channels when they have no other option.

By the way, what is the story about Puncheon? Is he only on leave, like Fonte, or has he actually been dropped even from the bench?

think he has a "tweaked back" whatever that signifies.

From the OS only Fonte and Morgan were officially "rested". Fonte has probably gone to see the Pope and Morgan is 21 tomorrow so he may have gone home to Alsace.I guess he hopes to be in the bleuets squad for the game against Russia on the 16th so may be glad of the rest.

I completely agree.

Let's hope the Cheltenham game in the next round is a bit more interesting !

Given the opposition, I guess I may be back in the Northam for this one (my only complaint yesterday was that, from behind the goal, you can't see the other end of the pitch, atmosphere is better though!).

My first Saints game in the flesh since Forest away in 2009, due to moving back to Ireland.

Definitely a subdued performance, though second half was better than the first and we probably deserved the win overall.

Barnard was very ineffectual and Guly even worse. Lambert has gone backwards in a big way.

Was impressed by Chaplow - gave the ball away cheaply on occasion, but not as often as he won it back for us. An energetic display.

Chamberlain is more potential than performance at this stage I think. Some nice contributions in the first half, but the end product isn't qutie there yet, which isn't a crime at 17. Disappeared in the second half.

Lallana is a class apart at this level and he'll surely move on sooner rather than later.

Saints crowd were very, very quiet - Shrews lot made far more noise.

Not on that showing! No tempo no desire. We won I suppose he's a genius for that. Other than that we were absolute crap. If we had come up against a tram with some desire to win we would have lost. all IMHO of course.

We weren't great but you are not giving Shrewsbury enough credit. FWIW I thought that they defended extremely well - its just that they lacked the quality up front to offer a threat against our defence. I don't think that the lack of a will to win was their problem.
