dune Posted 5 November, 2010 Share Posted 5 November, 2010 SHAMED LABOUR MP PHIL WOOLAS LOSES SEAT AS BY-ELECTION IS CALLED In a ruling of the first of its kind for almost 100 years shamed Labour MP Phil Woolas has been barred from the Commons for three years and an election re-run called for. The former immigration minister, who won his seat by just 103 votes lost it today as the court ruled that Mr Woolas had knowingly made false statements about his opponent in May’s general election. http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/209793 If this had been a Tory i'm sure there would have been a thread posted up by now. You must have psychic powers. It was either this or a thread rejoicing in Nigel Farage being re-appointed leader of the UKIP.
georgeweahscousin Posted 7 November, 2010 Share Posted 7 November, 2010 It isn't a proper punishment politically. Labour should not be allowed a candidate in the re-run. Although, in somewhere like Oldham, that will probably leave the BNP as the only likely winner........

franny Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 He was part of the New Labour government and therefore not a socialist. HTH I find it interesting all the "socialist/labour voters" that condemn the previous administration in this way and wonder who they voted for during the 10+years the Blair/Brown coalition was in power because clearly many did vote for them and I suspect many who now condemen them as non socialists did. At the start of their power a good work colleague of mine over from Turkey said then that Blair was obviosuly not Socialist and just looking for power so if he realised it why were so many fooled? It was the same after Margaret Thatcher lost power, you could not find anyone to admit they voted for her but clearly huge numbers had done so. Lord Duckhunter Posted 9 November, 2010 Share Posted 9 November, 2010 Looks like the Labour party are rallying around the "liar", Blair's wife, Brown and others must feel that he's done nothing wrong. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/8120131/Labour-MPs-mutiny-against-leadership-in-support-of-Phil-Woolas.html

I notice theres a lot infighting over this with Miss Harman being asked to consider her position. Good news indeed.

Whitey Grandad Posted 9 November, 2010 Share Posted 9 November, 2010 An interesting referendum on the Brokeback Coalition is in the offing, methinks. Nah, it'll be a fix-up. One party (probably the Conservatives) will field an eejit so that the other gets a clear run.
