MadDogMatt Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 So who else was impacted by the train problems London bound caused by the broken down train freight train near Winchester?? 10pm from Soton was still at Eastleigh at 11. Bus laid on to Winchester and Basingstoke before the train did get on the move. Loads of Saints and D&G fans impacted. Anyway, great win, just got our Carlisle tickets. COYR

JRM Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Yep, sat at Eastleigh for an hour going nowhere, then eventually moved and followed the broken down freight train as far as basingstoke, missed my connection at clapham, eventually pulled into Waterloo at 00.55 , 90 minutes late, there weren't that many Dagenham on board to be fair. Taxis laid on from waterloo to get people home but completely unorganised, "duty manager" with strong african accent seemed to be fully qualified in rude customer service, he'll be getting a mention in my letter of complaint. Arrive home 1.44am. At least claiming back the train fare will pay for another home game journey down. Good game though, was worth the journey down.

This is basically what happened to me, but I never got a free taxi :-(
Kingsland Nick Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Was there a second broken down train, or why did they change their minds about diverting the 2200 via Havant?
MadDogMatt Posted 3 November, 2010 Author Posted 3 November, 2010 the train could not go via Havant because the driver did not know the route - i kid you not!! Good spot on the D&R typo duh woops!
ItchenRob Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Yes, suffered this as well. Got home around 2.15 (near Horley). 3 1/2 hours sleep and I really do need my beauty sleep !
Sour Mash Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Got home at 2.15am. To say I was unhappy at South West Trains customer service back at Waterloo would be a bit of an understatement. F**k knows what sort of mood I'd have been in if we'd lost! Only a few D&R on board, but were a sound little lot to be fair.

Does the driver need to know the route? Surely the points settings determine which direction he goes, he just has to follow the tracks.
La BoIS Saint Posted 4 November, 2010 Posted 4 November, 2010 This is basically what happened to me' date=' but I never got a free taxi :-([/quote'] Put in a claim. I got cash with no receipt once before.

Signalling, speed restrictions, gradients, hazards, train length to platform ratio etc. I'm sure that these need to be taken into consideration. It's not just a matter of getting in winding it up and lifting the brakes.

John Boy Saint Posted 4 November, 2010 Posted 4 November, 2010 They want to put a station in where I live, it is on the Reading Basingstoke line so a very quiet route compared to Waterloo to Southampton, but network rail said that the disruption to the timetable would make it unfeasible. So a "Rogue" train trundling up a strange track would cause an absolute network meltdown probably with tremors felt out on the far west coast of Scotland. . . . And a damn good excuse for industrial action.
