JustMike Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Do me a favour. You're only just in the playoff places FFS. On the other hand, we've taken 30 points from 36 and have conced just 8 goals in 15 matches. "We're f***ing brilliant" does your boyfriend know you're here?
JustMike Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Not brilliant. Not pants. Solid, nothing more than that. Did a job without being overly flash at all. Sign him up, it's what we've been missing IMO. chaplow was my MOM. box to box, great tackles and passing. Just what we missed last season
gaz Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Brilliant, can't wait for the weekend. Could go 2nd if results go our way! COYS!

jawillwill Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Brilliant, can't wait for the weekend. Could go 2nd if results go our way! COYS! I bet you a gazillion pounds (see what I did there?) that we will not be in the top 2 at the weekend.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 chaplow was my MOM. box to box, great tackles and passing. Just what we missed last season Got it in one. I thought we won that without playing particularly well and both Chamberlain's goals were flukes. Chaplow by far our best player. Lambert had a stinker. Enjoyed the Tranmere game much more than this - tonight was OK but nothing more. Don't get carried away there is still lots of work to be done on this team.
SNSUN Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 First ten points for me on the prediction league too, I've been useless all season, who thought I'd get my first maximum with a 4-0 win! Sounds like Chappers had another good game. Hope we can keep him.
saint_stevo Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Good game. Players that caught the eye- • Chamberlain- Lethal, Theo-esque. Awesome. • Seaborne- Not seen much of him, but very impressive tonight. Decent distribution as well. • Chaplow- Very good IMO. Box to box, final ball not always there but fantastic workrate and offers something different to MS and DH. Richardson was a bit iffy, looked nervy and a tad slow, hopefully just lacking match fitness? Up to 30mins and from 50-70mins we were excellent.

To be fair, it was only Dagenham, in poor form :-o I don't think we are a poor team though... we just need to get the same kind of momentum Brighton have and it now looks like we're building that up a bit... Still think Brighton will win L1, but we'll finish 2nd. Peterborough and Huddersfield will be the wobblers this year, but still make the playoffs...
Benj Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Today was an example in how dominating the midfield wins you games in this league. D&R simply did not know what to do with Chamberlain and Lallana running at them. Then you had Hammond sitting deep in the holding role whilst Chaplow was simply awesome, box to box, seemed to be everywhere at once. The number of times they just knocked the ball long into space behind our back four was a credit to how well we shut them out in the middle of the pitch. Lambert and Barnard did what was required of them, made their presence felt and opened up the gaps for Chamberlain and Lallana. Back four was solid as ever, with Fonte at his usual brilliant best. As for Chamberlain's goals, first one was a cross but he definitely meant the second.
S-Clarke Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Best player on the pitch was chaplow IMO. Chambo had a stormer, he still does the wrong thing every now and then as you'd expect - but his pace will worry anyone. Lambert was the worst i've seen him this season, don't think he jumped off the ground once or got up a sweat. Really really poor. It was a pretty standard win really, Daggers didn't really do much tbh - couple of half chances, but never under any threat and it was as easy a win as you'll get at this level. Still a long way to go, but we're getting up a head of steam now and we're right in the middle of the chasing pack.
NickG Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 To be fair, it was only Dagenham, in poor form :-o I don't think we are a poor team though... we just need to get the same kind of momentum Brighton have and it now looks like we're building that up a bit... Still think Brighton will win L1, but we'll finish 2nd. Peterborough and Huddersfield will be the wobblers this year, but still make the playoffs... yes, only Dagenham but any idiot (well maybe not any - see above!) can see we are not a poor league 1 side.
NickG Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Check out the form guide here: http://www.fansfocus.com/info/article/2372-npower-league-one-league-form-guide/ Top over the last 6 matches - we're on a roll!! cherries not doing so well, weren't they bragging about how many more points they had than us just a few weeks ago?
Saint Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 OS says they had 53% possession. Surely that must be a mistake. We passed it around them, whenever they had it they just booted it away.
The Kraken Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 (edited) Just back from the game; obviously very happy with the result. Performance was sketchy first half but totally dominant and controlled in the second half. Player ratings: Davis: 6. Only because he had very little to do; flapped at a cross in the first half but otherwise solid. Richardson: 5. Looked very rusty indeed, caught in posession a few times and didn't offer much at all going forward (but didn't really need to). Harding: 7. Very, very good defensively. Tried to get forward more than of late, on one occasion in the first half should have set up a goal but delayed on the ball enough for the keeper to block. Fonte: 8. Very solid defensively, and good to get a goal to cap off a very good performance. Seaborne: 7. A few shaky moments but otherwise did well, looked to pass out of defence rather than hoof. Chamberlain: 9. Wow. Just, wow. Looks like a real prospect, at the heart of our best moves and goals, and just had far too much for them tonight. Less of a threat when on the left but D&R's left back will be having nightmares tonight of the torrid time he was given. Should have set up Lambert for a tap in second half but chose to shoot, but forgivable in the circumstances. Lallana: 7. Some excellent trickery with his feet, after a quiet first half (when he should have scored) he was much more lively in the second half, lovely move for Barney's goal. Hammond: 7. Quietly efficient, did what he needed to do. Chaplow: 8.5. Fantastic display, energetic and strong in defence, and supported the strikers very well. The point in the first half when we were attacking, lost the ball and he sprinted 30 yards to win it back summed his game up. Sign him up please. Lambert: 6. Maybe generous, fluffed a great chance second half, but was a decent aerial outlet at least, his flick led to Barney's goal. Still a way short of what we know he can produce. Barnard: 7. Typical industrious performance capped by a well finished goal. Starting to get a real understanding playing with Lambert, if RL can hit form I think we have a fantastic strike force. Subs Bignall: 6. Willing runner, had a good shot on target punched away. Looks like Papa Waigo on roids. Guly: 6. A decent show, obviously has talent though still overly casual at times. Will only get better. Schneiderlin: 5. Struggled to get inot the game; on tonight's performance will also struggle to get back in the starting line up. Edited 2 November, 2010 by The Kraken
vince Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 cherries not doing so well, weren't they bragging about how many more points they had than us just a few weeks ago? When you say "they" I only remember one on here. I'm sure we have about the same number doing the same right now. I'm pretty happy with what we're going right now, building a good run and quietly gaining ground and when whatever monkey is on Rickies back right now is gone, a few more scorelines like tonight to come. Hopefully.
ronnie radford's boots Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 I thought that Chaplow was our mom tonight. Not just winning countless challenges, but moving it on quickly and positively and really covering the ground, popping up in the box ahead of the forwards half a dozen times. It's been a while since we've seen that from a Saints shirt Barnard also had a good game and gave that bit of movement that allowed OC, Lallana, Chappers and also Harding to find space in and around the box. On a less positive note, our defending of corners in the first half in particular was shocking. All 11 players back in the box and yet time and time again it fell to a Dagenham player, with Davis flapping and the rest looking on. Also Richardson seemed slow and indecisive throughout, but I'm hoping that that is down to lack of games. Let's be careful to not build O|C up too much. He's a prospect, he's exciting but he's got a long way to go. Just hope that it's with us !

corsacar saint Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Chaplow was superb,Chamberlain was superb, especially first 20 minutes, when he was given the ball so frequently.Lallana was top drawer second half, and the others were ok.However the way we defend balls into our box is a definite concern,a better side than Dagenham would give us numerous problems. For the record Jaidi looks well slim,it looks like NA is getting all the players much fitter. Summing up going forward we are virtually unplayable in this league, when we sit back, and encourage teams to get the ball into our box,we look very shaky at times.FWIW I have to admit that Harding played well tonight.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Great game. AOC - Someone above said his goals were flukey, not sure about the first but the second was intentional. Seabourne - cant believe how good this guy actually is and will only get better. Totally different player under NA Chaplow - sign him up. Only bad point was having to sit next to the under 18's 3 of whom giggled during the one mins silence and spent most of the game on their mobiles. Was me, first one deffo a fluke, second one hmm need to see a replay perhaps. The kid played well, but Chaplow was mom by a country mile. Thought we took our foot off the gas after going 4-0 up which was a bit anti climatical, GD could be crucial. Can't believe the form Brighton are showing. Fair play - should be a cracker at SMS.
dannysfc Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Got back from the game about 30-35 mins ago and I am still buzzing after that Good win and I thought that was a Good Solid All Round Team Performance aswell! Chaplow n Oxo-Chamberlain were my MOTM too! Bring On Shrewsbury On Sat In The FA Cup! COYR !!
Liquidshokk Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 I'm converted on the chaplow front. Wasn't too impressed before but he got sooo many vital touches in tonight and was snapping at their heels all game. Get him signed.
Charlie Wayman Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 The end justified the means, we played awful kick and rush football for much of the match and got a result. Why on earth Adkins played the long ball is beyond me as he claims all the time that he wants his team to play neat fast passing football. Did anybody pass his message on to the players? Good result 'though especially later in the season when we look back
The Cat Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Good win but they were pretty poor. Their fans were funny though. Hardly any of them but they were quality. Not sure why people are slating the Brighton fan. I think it's good to have other clubs supporters on here, always interesting to hear their views and find out a bit more about their team. Christ, we've even found a couple of skates to tolerate over on the P*mpey thread! Did Chamberlain mean his second? Just saw it on SSN and it looks more like a shot than it did when I saw it when halfway down the stairs on the way for a beer.

If we were in fact Dagenham and redbridge fans then I could understand your criticisms... Just remember we could actually be losing these games and actually playing badly. We're not so just enjoy it.

Brighton are top of the form table by 1 point ahead of Saints and the rest are playing catch up. Roll on Nov 23.

explorer saint Posted 2 November, 2010 Posted 2 November, 2010 Hammond was outstanding tonight. Really I think you mean to spell that Lallana

He made a load of runs that were unnoticed especially in second half and is having to play a different role under adkins. I for one reckon he will adjust but felt sorry for him tonight. He wanted a goal badly and the only thing I question adkins for is why he took him off when it would have been great for ricky to score. Dont jump on the bandwagon. Ricky will come good but he tried hard tonight Edited 3 November, 2010 by Saint_clark

wild-saint Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Was me, first one deffo a fluke, second one hmm need to see a replay perhaps. The kid played well, but Chaplow was mom by a country mile. Thought we took our foot off the gas after going 4-0 up which was a bit anti climatical, GD could be crucial. Can't believe the form Brighton are showing. Fair play - should be a cracker at SMS. agree the first was a fluke. Check the second again as he defo takes a little look up before he hits its. Chaplow had a good game. I like him a lot as he is the only CM player we have that gets beyond the front two, however he maybe needs a little more composure when he gets there. Although if he was then he would be playing at a higher level. Alex OA has it all ...pace to burn, two good feet and can deliver the final ball from either side. He is going to be some player. I liked the look of Bignall as well. He won every header, he is very mobile, makes good runs and again has two good feet. Id like to see a bit more of him in the side as I think he has bags of potential.
Lighthouse Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 The old saying of "you can only beat what's in front of you" was fairly prominent in tonight's display. Very enjoyable game to watch though and a great result. The only downer was some of the sloppy moments when we gave the ball away at the back under no pressure. Better teams will punish this and those teams are coming to St Mary's this month. My ratings: Davis - 6 Flappy and bored FR - 7 Looked more assured than Notts Co certainly. Got forward a couple of times too. Fonte - 8 Class and a well taken goal Seaborne - 7 Did little wrong. Harding - 8 Some excellent build up play, especially first half. AOC - 9 Dangerous all evening. First goal was a fluke, but nobody cares. Chaplow - 9 MOTM for me. Ran the show in the middle Hammond - 8 Excellent Lallana - 9 Took the p*ss all evening Lambert - 6 Still looks off the pace and not scoring. Barnard - 9 Another hard working display, and a goal to boot.
Appy Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 No but win is a win. I'll complain we we lose. Don't concentrate on negativity any more than you have to in life :-D ;-) Daggers were nothing like as bad as Tranmere IMO
St Marco Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Great game and great win. Alex is the type of player Puncheon should of been for us this season. So you have to give Adkins huge praise for making the decision to drop Puncheon. The guy has potential but it just isn't going well. AOC gave their defence the run around all game. The type of player you really don't want to play against as he can make you look a total mug with his skill. And the great thing is he is only going to get better and we don't need to sell him like we have had to in the past. Chaplow and Hammond also deserve a mention as they played very well together. I would like to see that continued into a few more games. So good win. Let's hope we can keep it going now until the end of the season!

SuperMikey Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Just back from the game (after f*cking walking from St Mary's up to Bassett...groan), very comfortable win for us. Never really got into top gear. Chamberlain was quality, don't think he meant the first but definitely meant the second. Don't understand why we've started playing the long ball more when the pass-and-move football we played against Bournemouth and Tranmere was so successful though, especially as Rickie hasn't won a header in what seems about 10 years. Nonetheless, a very confident performance and very encouraging to be in the top 6. Keep the momentum up with a win against Shrews and we'll take this form into our next league game. COYR!
Saint_clark Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Literally just got home from this. Trains were cancelled left right and centre. Chaplow was my MOTM, he has completely changed the team.
scott_saints Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 People getting over excited.... lets leave that out untill the next 3 games have passed, imo.

70's Mike Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 A good win, Chaplow was my MOM, Oxo was good but not convinced both goals were meant. Concerned about how often Daggers were able to cross good balls into our box, a better team would have punished us. Still 3 points and the momentum is building, good crowd as well
John B Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 A good win, Chaplow was my MOM, Oxo was good but not convinced both goals were meant. Still 3 points and the momentum is building, good crowd as well Yes Chaplow was my man of the Match although Chamberlain had a couple of good runs his goals were flukey but Chaplow was everywhere and looked very good Not sure about Richardson but I thought Seaborne played well his distribution was quite good better than Fonte who was also good in defence Lambert was nothing like a threat (he did have one clear cut chance) compared with Barnard perhaps Guly and Barnard up front should be tried
alehouseboys Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 A good win, Chaplow was my MOM, Oxo was good but not convinced both goals were meant. Concerned about how often Daggers were able to cross good balls into our box, a better team would have punished us. Still 3 points and the momentum is building, good crowd as well Agree, Chaplow played well and is giving us a bit more in the middle but don't think you can deny Oxo MOM last night. Also, as you say, good crowd, more than the Yorkshire local derby at Hillsboro', bet 'udders had more than a couple of hundred there too. "Na, na, na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, OXO" ...can't understand why this one aint caught on yet?
Teddy Nutkins Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Good result, long may it continue.Really enjoyed the 3rd and 4th goals, down in front of me, classic get to the bye-line and pull it back.If i can indulge myself with a criticsm, i thought we over did the passing in the midfield first half, after going ahead, when there were lots of space finding runs made by Barnard, Lambert and Adam, but that is being "picky". Well done Nigel Adkins, i am enjoying the ride.
dubai_phil Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 So we are still playing in 3rd Gear (Daggers commentators at half time) yet we are winning and moving up the League. Still clearly work to do. But what a change being a Saints fan these days. Was looking at The Match Thread and thinking back to the times spent listening on-line in what now seem like the grim dark days of our "stay" in the CCC. Must be many out there who are struggling to come to terms with being HAPPY after a game these days. But isn't it also great to dream of what may happen IF we actually start performing to our ability as a team. Still, after so many years, part of me thinks I should simply sit and wait for it to go wrong..... But right now. Fanbloodytastic
alpine_saint Posted 3 November, 2010 Posted 3 November, 2010 Great result, this the sort of the game we would have drawn last year, or really laboured to a win. we have three league matches now to assert our authority on the league NASA Absolutely, but now we face a new challenge - can we really do it against the teams around us ? We failed against Huddersfield. Lets hope we learned something. Those games against Peterborough and Brighton are looking critical, especially with both of them being home games.
