Don't completely ignore leftback

'no smoke without fire' must be the most retarded logic out there. But sadly, people actually go along with it everyday.

Then if there's any truth in this example they'll say 'see, no smoke without fire', as if it somehow acts as generic proof.

I hope all using this logic are swiftly and falsely accused of rape and/or murder.

Your a murderer ?

Leftback can't be the leftback Mark Dennis who complained on Talksport that all the ex players can't have a jolly knees up in hospitality anymore and they have to pay to see Saints. The same Mark Dennis who is still around as the Chairman of Winchester and who was good mates with Pardew from their couple of years playing days at Crystal Palace.

Seems like another gruntled ex employee not being allowed his freebies from the club anymore. Why anyone who supposedly loves the club would want to carry on whinging and complaining about it, doing more harm than good when we're starting to get a good run together is beyond me.

I read the thread that you are alluding to. It has gone through my mind that in some ways we are in a rather insecure position. It is one thing having a rich owner enjoying the pleasure of building a succesful team, with all the social, personal and even at some point financial benefits. With his very sad passing in the medium term, will the family and even Cortese really have the desire to continue. Of course early on all parties will want to support the desires of a much loved man, but in the cold light of day can the vision really continue with out the main participant.

I have also noticed a certain lack of financial activity, most visibly I guess in the transfer market. January will make things clearer in this respect and if no players are signed that would start making me more convinced that things are changing. I am not panicking, because we have a good manager and our position versus the awful Lowe era is far better, but I am not going to be surprised if we do not have major, significant changes well before the much vaunted 5 year plan.

Intertesting defintion of no activity in the transfer market. Since the END of the transfer window by when we had clearly the strongest squad in the division

In: Nigel Atkins (not cheap!)

but of course we haven't bought anyone permanently. Could that perhaps be because that would be against the rules!

I am going to go out on a limb here.

I have just read some of his recent threads. What he is posting is news to many of us at a time when very little is getting out of SMS or Staplewood.

His posts are slanted against Cortese and I think that is because it is coming from one particular source in the media via a club leak.

I treat what he has to say with caution but not outright dismissal. There is no smoke without fire.

Is he a Saints supporter? You bet he is.

Is he bias? Yes I think he is based on what I have heard from him in the past.

Does he know the game? Yes he does.

Do I know him? No not personally but I have heard him speak publically before.

He clearly dislikes Cortese just as he disliked Lowe but thought the world of Crouch.

Enough on him though. I am not going to say who he is, just thought outright dismissal of his posts is probably unwarranted.

I COULD BE WRONG THOUGH. I HAVE NO INSIDE INFORMATION

sorry but I am not going to pay any attention to someone whos nose has been put out of joint and is just looking to to point score over NC, especially when he just spouts unsourced info and then expects us all to lay down and take his word as gospel.

That would be a "wood" then

I once made a wooden bowl in the school woodwork shop, still got it, pretty handsome bowl even if I do say so myself. Must have been the only object that I ever had any success with. Always remember the woodwork master shouting "You stupid boy, can't you see you've planed against the grain" at me.Couldn't actually but then handicraft isn't my thing.

His name wasn't Lampard, was it?

My favourite recollection of him was (said with utter venom in response to an innocent question about mending a damaged egg box in pine) "You stupid boy! Do I look like the kind of man who deals in six-inch nails?"

Thanks for benefit of your reply, slightly patronising as you seem to be assuming that I am commenting of lack of buying when the transfer market is closed, which is not what i was thinking or saying as I suspect every one posting on this forum probably understands the rules regarding when players can and can not be signed. I think if you read my post correctly you will realise that in your desire to be clever you have totally missed my point. Which is not to say you may feel my thoughts are unfounded or what ever. Just annoys me when points a poster has taken the time to make are answered in a condascending or aggressive way, when that person has not even grasped what the post is about.

Well look at you. I think we all know who leftback is, and he is someone with an axe to grind. He may well have access to inside information through people at the club but thankfully he obviously has no say in the running of the club. To be honest, I'm happy with the way saints are performing right now and to me that's all that matters. If Cortese puts a few ex pro's noses out of joint in the process because they cant get free tickets anymore so be it. For the first time since 2003 i've felt like the club is moving forwards and Cortese is the man making that happen. If people like leftback can't wind their neck in then they are probably best ignored, especially when it comes across as inane drivel, as most of his posts do.

add the cost of paying off pardew then the financial cost of bringing in adkins could be quite high. Assuming at leat 18 - 24 months of AP's contract remained then that could esily be another 7 figure sum. That would need to be sanctioned as well.

Well I'm interested in what leftback has to say, even if some of it can be ignored due to his self confessed agenda. He clearly has a line into the club and there appears to be truth in some of what he says. Worth listening to at any rate because he is going to be right on occasion. Before anyone starts, I would be saying this even if the poster was posting with a heavy bias in favour of Cortese if he had proven (like leftback has) that he has some real info.

Too many people are quick to rubbish someone just because they don't like what they have to say.

Exactly. So long as Cortese facilitates delivery on the pitch and doesn't put up prices too much then i've gotno complaints. Leftback just strikes me as a little man with huge chip on his shoulder.

I don't know who leftback is, don't much care either really, he has his say, same as everyone else.Although he could pay £5 for the privilege.:?

Definitely has an axe to grind, can hardly get his words out when Les Reed is involved for the volume of feathers it all has to come through. His allegiance to Crouch puts him in the dumb fooks box, but there is value in some of his comments. As someone else mentioned, just looking at how the teams line up in training is good enough to figure out the squad, not a lot of inside info there.

The last point he made about a disagreement between Cortese and the Liebherr family was worth further discussion, even if it was not true. I don't believe a lot of people realise the ambitions that Cortese has for Saints, the Champions League comments were no joke. What I could not reconcile would be the beneficiaries of Liebherrs estate, agreeing to levels of spending that would entail, no matter what was promised. This is expected to be Cortese's last job and he wants to leave his mark. All very good for a Saints supporter, not completely sure the family will feel exactly the same as time passes. Saints can never be seen as a viable stand alone investment, only with the passion can this make sense. Markus bought into that passion, but I wonder for how long the rest of the family will? Does anyone know how regularly members of the family attend St Mary's?

I think sometimes we forget just how obscenely wealthy this family is. The money that has been spent on Saints so far is to put it frankly - peanuts. They will have earned more in the last 6 months in interest than has been spent on us. Now I'm not saying they don't watch the pennies but to fulfil Markus's dream is in relative terms small beer to them. They will want Cortese to stick to the business plan that he and Markus put together to get us where they want us to be but they will allow a certain amount of overspend - ask yourself, if a family member of yours had died and you had it in your power to fulfil his wish would you? I know I would try my level best.

Dunno. If cortese is realistic about us becoming a Champions League team then we'll need to be spending huge ammounts. Not sure they'd be prepared to stump up £50 mil and £200K a week wages.

That could all be very true but what I do not know is how the estate was divided and how many there are? Under Markus this is undeniably so, but what is the position when that is divided up into smaller parts without the passion to match. The families love for Markus could well carry this on far further, but without the passion for Saints it is difficult to see the longevity?

I suppose they could put their business spectacles on, get us to the Premiership and then sell us, after all promotion to the Premiership is worth about £70m over three years even if you come right back down.

The sad fact is that if Markus was still alive, we would more than likely have had more money to spend and a real go at becomong an established Prem team. Although perhaps the family ARE more intersted than we imagine, who knows ?

What's been spent on us so far is small beer for them but if they are looking to establish us as regulars in Europe (let alone the Champions League, which to me is totally unrealistic), then the sort of outlay required is going to go through the roof.
