Firstly, he is an utter w*nker, crap pundit and wearer of gay shirts.

Secondly, why does he never mention us ? Nor does he ever openly comment on his time at Saints. It struck me as odd last season, during the game that can't be named against the cheats. At the start, when it pops up Swindon - 1906 - 1908 or whatever, it never actually mentioned his time here ?

Did something happen that he tried to forget ? Did he leave under a cloud ?? Or is he just a tw*t ? :x

Good player, was here about 3 years though broke his leg at some point. Then played regularly under Chris Nichol before being sold rather out of the blue for a stupid fee, only about 300k I think. Have never, ever heard him mention his time here, no idea why:?

I do recall at one point whilst we were going through the admin process and heading towards L1 he did talk openly about having played for us and his concern for our future. Personally I thought his reference to his time here was more to do with "look at me" and trying to add weight to his opinion than any real concern for Saints.

His departure was a rather hasty one.At the time I heard that he felt he was worth more than the club did in wages.Perhaps he proved us wrong.

As a pundit,he's a totally wooden f^cker, and another reason to give ITV a wide berth whenever possible.

That wouldn't surprise me, comes across as very arrogant and another reason why ITV are generally useless at covering sport.

Must confess i never knew he played for us...

My saints memory of him is when le tiss skinned him and scored that cracking goal... (the one against Norwich that went in off the left post) - I think he only scored one like that against Norwich. He did score several crackers tho, not sure if anyone else has noticed that.

He was definitely a better footballer than he is television pundit. Mind you I am probably better at football than he is at punditry!!

We bought him from somewhere when he was playing non league football. (Was it Wymouth ??). He was some computer geek working for the local council until we rescued him.

We rescued his career ... and he is still ungrateful.

I guess one reason why he doesn't "mention us" is because we have a bunch of precious fans who get upset at ex-players not talking about playing for us? FFS get a grip, it's like listening to some Neurotic complaining about why their ex girlfriend doesn't talk to them anymore.

A decent bloke if you ask me, but then I go to the same gym as him just outside Stratford upon Avon...

I think he is ok, too. And neither do I think he is a crap pundit, a lot of what he says makes more sense than Lawrenson or Hanson ever will. And he cannot be more up his own arse than those two.

And why is a bloke a w*nker just because he doesn't mention every five minutes that he played for us, when all his success was with other clubs?

He was glad to leave here because (he has admitted) he didn't really feel he was an important part of the squad. That's not being up his own, but believing he could contribute and achieve more elsewhere. Was he wrong?

Coincidentally, other than this thread, we dont talk about him much either.

Actually his name did come up very recently and someone asked the same question as above, we did sign him from Weymouth.

Correct and Lawrie MacMenemy made the signing.

I was just asking a question, i am not all for ex players wearing the shirt etc, and i don't want people banging on about us every 5 minutes. However when a player blatently disregards having spent any time with us, whilst punditing on a game involving us then it makes you wonder why.

As for him being a *****r, i just don't like the bloke, i have read things about him in the past which havn't painted him in a good light during his playing days, but yes he achieved success elsewhere, i just wondered why he seemed like he was ignoring his time with us thats all.

Why not text him at Talksport?

I might actually ;)

But that would mean i would have to actually listen to it :o

He hasn't worked at TalkSport for quite a few months now.

I had heard the rumour that he wasn't happy here as he felt our team was always built around MLT and not him(!)

If you like men with their nose spread across their face.

Better that than men with their stomachs spread across - well - their entire bodies :D

Maybe it's a nose thing then 'cos I think MLT is strangely attractive too

Surely he doesn't go to the gym? With that gut?

He has probably left TalkSport because they do not build their schedules around him.

OK then, if he's such a ****** would you want him to be associated with Saints in the first place? Secondly, how do you know if he has "disregarded" playing for us? Has he ever answered a question along the lines of "I'd rather not associate myself with that club?" I bet he hasn't! And even if he had, why should anyone give a flying f**k?

I liked Townsend as a player for us and was dissapointed when we sold him for only 300K (to Norwich?) if I remember correctly, he then left Norwich about 2 years later for 1.2m (and later another move for more than 2m).

Can't comment on his punditry as haven't seen him do any for a very long time. He was okay(ish) about 6 years back though.

Agreed. This is a quite bizarre thread.

What exactly has Andy Townsend done or not done in the last few days to justify this thread? It seems to all spring from something he did or didn't say during his work on the FA Cup tie with the Blue Few.

Which was, err, about nine months ago.

Maybe he got Smirking Saint's missus up the duff and the DNA tests have just come through.

Just something i have wondered for a little while, mind you i have never liked him much.

I am however, really looking forward to threads started by yourselves which will no doubt make it into the golden threads.

To be fair to the bloke I haven't heard him talk about his time at Norwich much either. I seem to remember seeing him score a cracking goal in a pre season friendly at Brighton very early on in his career, or was it a Cup game - time has clouded my memory. I do however remember feeling very surprised and disappointed when he was sold to Norwich for a quite low fee even in those days and thinking we had let a potentially very good player go for peanuts. I think his subsequent career with Villa and Republic of Oireland proved me right.

I think insulting the guy just because he doesn't refer to us is out of order, however.

I don't understand all this hatred towards him. i use to listen to him on talksport a lot and he did mention the saints a number of times. But remember he only played a few years here. But he played for Norwich, chelsea, middlesbrough, ireland, so he has got a number of clubs to mention.

The game your referring to was the FA cup Q/final 1986.

He scored in a 2-0 win.

I havent noticed any hatred, just a few people saying he isnt much of a pundit. Which tbf, he isnt.

He says good things about us on his TalkSport show, reason for confusion explained now.

I saw him at The Big Sheep once, we were parked close to each other, we were leaving and he was arriving I didn;t have time to chat unfortunately.

Incidentally, when we signed him the deal includede us playing a friendly against them down there. Anyone who went to that game will remember it for the amazing impromptu kickabout on the pitch at half time amongst the saints faithful. Happy days.
