The Kraken Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Adkins said on Solent both clubs have agreed we will be keeping Chaplow- paperwork yet to be completed. Great news. Really like him as a player and will keep Morgan and Hammond on their toes while also offering decent backup.
SO16_Saint Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Adkins said on Solent both clubs have agreed we will be keeping Chaplow- paperwork yet to be completed. Fan-daby-dozy
SuperMikey Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 If we can get him cheap then it's a good buy, although I don't think we should pay over the odds for him. A few more signings in the window to strengthen the team and we're in business!
niceandfriendly Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Brilliant news. Not the worlds best player but bloody good for this league and keeps the competition there in the centre.
Thedelldays Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 keeps for good or extended loan..? either way, a good player to add to the squad..
aintforever Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Excellent news, prefer him to Scheiderlin as he actually makes forward runs.
Matthew Le God Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 keeps for good or extended loan..? Can only be an extension to the loan at the moment, as the transfer window is shut.
Thedelldays Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Can only be an extension to the loan atm as the transfer window is shut. they have not signed anything...what if they are are actually saying they have agreed a fee for us to keep him for good and he will remain on loan till jan that is what i was asking
SNSUN Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Great news if true, was one of the best players on the park last week at Oldham, was suprised to see him benched today, but it's comforting to know we now have 3 excellent central midfielders. And Wotton. :-)
Colinjb Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Do hope this is true. Always liked Chaplow, will be delighted if he is as good as signed up.

Would be delighted if we got him permanently come January. Agree, he was terrible in the first half but picked it up a lot about 15 minutes into the second half. He just needs confidence I think, reading his programme notes before the Oldham game it seems he's been through the mill a bit over the last year or so with disagreements with the manager, being left out of the team and being told he's not wanted at Preston. Got to knock any player really.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Richard Chaplow is hardly the cultured midfield play-maker many on here were asking for a while ago, but what he clearly lacks in technical ability he makes up for in good old fashioned guts and determination. Any lower league team needs players like this who are prepared to do the 'ugly things' so that our better players (such as Lallana) can do their stuff.

Guan 2.0 Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Would love to have Morgan and Chaplow as our midfield pair, just don't rate Hammond at all, especially not as a leader of men. When Saints fire on all cylinders, our captain is noticeably the least effective member of a good team.
doggface Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Would like to see him signed on loan till jan & then make a decision. Only seen him vs Oldham & was appalling first half & should have been subbed @ halftime IMO, improved 2nd though. Was a big fan in his 1st spell here.
fanimal Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Watch how many runs into the box he makes that dont get spotted, a bit like Guly in his first game, thats the difference with better players, that unfortunately Deano and Spiderman for some reason dont do enough of yet.
captainchris Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Watch how many runs into the box he makes that dont get spotted, a bit like Guly in his first game, thats the difference with better players, that unfortunately Deano and Spiderman for some reason dont do enough of yet. Well spotted.........that's why he is better than Spiderman !
Dalek2003 Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Well spotted.........that's why he is better than Spiderman ! He is different from Spiderman. We need players who offer something different and keep the opposition guessing. If we mix it up a bit we will not be so predictable. This was one of our problems last year and AP didn't appear to know how to change the system.
paulwantsapint Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Chaplow MOM today Ok we got a pen ( before he came on ) but as he was getting shirt on pre sub he made an impact as team started playing better then when he came on 10 man notts had nothing to match him
SNSUN Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 It was his worst game for us last week against Oldham, he gave the ball away constantly for the first hour of the match. Would be delighted if we got him permanently come January. Funny how people see games differently. I thought he was a great little worker. My MOTM that day was Morgan, and a lot of people said he was poor too. Interesting. Him and Barnard are perhaps the hardest working players in our team. Keeping Chaplow will be great.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Excellent news. Really hope it's an extended loan with a permanent deal in Jan (pretty much what Oxford have done taking Josh Payne from Doncaster). Reading Chapper's comments in the programme, last week, it's bloody obvious he wants to stay so hopefully the paperwork will be sorted quickly.
Smirking_Saint Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Good news this, he isn't the most technically gifted but has more about him then Hammond with a similar workrate. It also strengthens us in CM which we have been crying out for since the start of last season. Would idealy like to see him in the center with Morgan and drop Hammond. Or even play Chaplow in the holding role and allow release Morgs from the leash.

david in sweden Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Do hope this is true. Always liked Chaplow, will be delighted if he is as good as signed up. agree with that Colin, he got very mixed reviews when on loan to us before, but his feud with Ferguson might be a solution to everyone's problem. Obviously, DF wants to see the back of him, and he would be a valubale addition to the squad. Only a third way through the season and we've had more than enough injury problems already.
dubai_phil Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Good news. Gives us 3 decent CM players and also gives us a nice combination of options depending on the type of game and opposition. We've needed someone in that role for the past 2 seasons
moon monkey Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Wotton is getting on a bit and when he is on the pitch it is like giving the opposition an extra player.
NickG Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Wotton is getting on a bit and when he is on the pitch it is like giving the opposition an extra player. rubbish. When he comes on he has as much energy and enthusiasm as a 21 yr old, gets into the right positions and stuck in, protecting back 4. He may lack finesse and quality on the ball, play a long ball or give the ball away more than I would like, but it not an extra player for opposition
Nexstar Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Good player and likes to attack into the box, he'll get a few goals for us if he's here for the season.
benjii Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 This match highlighted how much we need to keep him, or at least bring someone else in, as Schneiderlin was awful. Hammond did an excellent job trying to run the midfield on his own but once Chapters came on we were far better.
SparkySaint Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 His first touch at times might not be the greatest but he wants to play here. He gets my vote

Some players have dips in form but he will impress again
doughnutman Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Lets not forget all those great performances from Morgan over the last year. Some players have dips in form but he will impress again Exactly and this will give him a chance to be rested to find his form/ give him a kick up the backside knowing that he has to work for his place in the side
lambertsrightleg Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 I'd like him to stay just for the way that he flattened that centre back in the Bournemouth game
benjii Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Lets not forget all those great performances from Morgan over the last year. Some players have dips in form but he will impress again Yeah sure, I just mean that without him we wouldn't have been able to shake up CM to such good effect.
Charlie Wayman Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 ...was one of the best players on the park last week at Oldham, was suprised to see him benched today :-) That'll be because he wasn't one of the best players on the park against Oldham, he was frecking useless! Better than Schneiderlin??????? Do me a favour. Good job the manager was watching.
Saint J 77 Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 they have not signed anything...what if they are are actually saying they have agreed a fee for us to keep him for good and he will remain on loan till jan that is what i was asking Thats what I'd like to know too. I would hate it to be that we keep him until Jan only for Preston to want him back playing at his best for them again. Thats why I hate loans.
SparkySaint Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Yeah sure, I just mean that without him we wouldn't have been able to shake up CM to such good effect. I'd have Chaplow on the bench over Wotton any day. I wonder if Wotton enjoys the ironic attention that he gets when he comes on? When he came he was billed as a set piece specialist. I have seen no evidence of this at all. Also i'd start with Chaplow and Hammond against D&R
SparkySaint Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Exactly and this will give him a chance to be rested to find his form/ give him a kick up the backside knowing that he has to work for his place in the side Competition for places is essential which is exactly what we've needed in the middle. Maybe we need someone to keep Lambert on his toes
Huffton Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Chaplow is exactly what we need in this league, a solid hard working box to box midfielder. Not the worlds most technically gifted player, but can certainly stick his foot in when needed. If Hammond can get back to his previous form we will have some nice midfield options.

I think he plays well in the position he is obviously being asked to play. He is easily the most technically gifted CM we have, by a long long way. I don't get the reason everyone slags off his attacking play, it is obvious to me he has clear instructions from Adkins.

I entirely agree but he had a good season in the Prem before he was injured.
S-Clarke Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 Chaplow has talent, he hasn't just lost it in a few bad years at Preston. Give the guy a few months, some regular football in a nice settled environment, lots of wins, and we could probably have the best box to box midfielder in the league. I still believe he's championship standard at his best.
