Dagenham & Redbridge Build-Up

Wake up, Blackpool are in the Premier League.

Blackpool have far more history than Dag & Red and aren't really comparable.

- Dagenham & Redbridge founded 18 years ago, only entered the Football League for the first time in 2007 and have average gates of 2,000.

- Blackpool founded 123 years ago, have played in the top flight for a number of years and won the FA Cup.

And won one of the classic FA cup finals in 53.

Apologies for trying to make a comparison. I'll get right on the phone to the Football League and ensure Dagenham and Redbridge are relegated by the morning.

We'll be out of this 'cesspit' of a league by August 2011.

I hope so.

I am so so longing to see us back in the Prem, but also looking forward to the championship days again, i did enjoy them.

What do you mean, son?

that'll be the bit about Blackpool at least having a history and the fact they are actually in the Premiership. No team gets there by chance but I can understand your bemusement at them in the upper echelons while we wallow in this cesspit. It's certainly a reverse of the last 30 odd years of our respective league places

Exactly, so why talk down about Daggers?

You just completely contradicted yourself.

Somewhat ironic that a build up thread should turn to knocking Dagenham and Redbridge down ! As correctly stated the club was formed in 1992 when Dagenham merged with Redbridge Forest with the latter only formed itself around 1980. I lived in Essex in the early 80's, Dagenham was fairly local and they were a pretty good non league team. However, the real irony is that over the course of many years what is now Dagenham and Redbridge also incorpororated Ilford, Walthamstow and Leytonstone which actually covers a mighty big area. Of course it is inevitable that West Ham, Southend and Orient are the 3 Essex/East London teams with the most history. However, with the Gateway Development set to extend Dagenham and thereby it's catchment area still further the potential fan base is very large indeed and even, dare I say, larger than Southampton !! Quite frankly I say good luck to Dagenham and Redbridge, it's never likely to happen in my lifetime but I would love them to overtake the not so happy Hammers who really have some of the worst supporters I have encountered and no prizes for anyone who knows which favourite ex Saints manager used to manage them ( I'm guessing everyone knows !) .

Do you look or dress anything like stato from fantasy football? I imagine you as him but with more of a patronising tone.

The opportunity is there to change the team slightly...

Davies

Richardson, Fonte, Martin, Dickson

Lallana, Morgan, Chaplow, Puncheon

Lambert, Guly

5 unnecessary changes to a winning side? Not a good idea IMO.

No matter how easy people want to think this game is, we still need to go out and do it. The league is our priority. We can make changes on Saturday.

Managed to wrangle a business trip to Worthing - so it's game on!

I honestly can't see any benefit from changing the team that last started. I would even hope that Schneiderlin gets booked and misses the Shrewsbury game.

Not sure if Chaplow is able to play - was the month loan up on Sunday? But with him and Chamberlin on the bench to be called upon if needed seems the right way of doing things. I can't understand why anyone would want to change a winning team unless there is a tactical reason to do so. If we want to go all out attack then simply play the same team as Saturday - I think it will be more than good enough to pulverise D&R (arrogance is not intended but we should)!

The true mark of a team is to support those not playing well, and I think Puncheon knows his team mates are doing a lot for him. It seems to me watching him he has issues with the role he is playing. Perhaps he needs a freer role - and a lot more shooting practice!

Far Kin Ell - lets put the youth team out shall we? This is a league game against a team that's got a few respectable results (and a few pastings). We know from last season that there are no mugs in this league and we can lose against the worst. Why would you want to make wholesale changes from the team last match? Save the changes for the cup match.

Sorry - for some reason the wrong post was quoted - you can work out which post I was replying to I hope :-)

The worst home performance last season was a 1-0 win against Wycombe,a team who like D&R had just come up.We should have been out of sight by the hour mark, and ended up hanging on for the last 25 minutes.

This is a game we should[and hopefully do]win comfortably, but it is also a potential banana skin.[Who can forget the Rochdale game, they were another team, who had just come up].

Christ, i remember that. It was in December if i remember, totally freezing and drab for the majority of it. Surprised i wasn't frozen solid by the end of the game

That was one of those games that you're glad to get done so you can get home..! Let's hope tuesday is a bit better than that!

imo changes for the sake of making changes is a bad idea. we should always play the strongest team possible in every game. the only thing that counts at the end of the day is points on the board. not to get 3 points agaisnt lower placed teams because we change the team to allow others a run out is stupid. players should work hard in training and force themselves into contention or replace injured/suspended players and not picked to replace others just because they havn't played much.

for tomorrows game i would start with the same team as saturday if possible unless morgan is suspended in which case chaplow to come in if still here.

Need to build on Saturday and think Puncheon should be given a rest.

Seems like a game we should win comfortably, but also one that Saints could typically lose!

Puncheon is one of the players having played most games for us this season. Don't know about time played exactly though. I would have thought that Morgan had played the most games overall though. Not at all strange that these 2 look the most jaded.

mate just rang up to get us some tickets .. apparantly northam and itchen sold out, got us on the kingsland corner, rang back up to get another mate a ticket and got told that since he rang there were no seats left near us in the kingsland/northam corner ...looks like its going to be a decent turn out with these ticket offers going on!

I think we do everything right except get the early goal - if it happens and one day it will teams like D&R will buckle and the flood gates will open.

We get caught on the break because we are presssing so hard for the first goal, and defenders get caught out of position.

I just hope and pray we get the early goal - and press on and not sit back. We need to send a warning to all clubs we are getting better, and SMS is not a soft place to come for a draw or a win. They will shut up shop - but with patience we can grind out 1-0 wins at home and go to places and win handsomely. After Liverpool of old use to do it week on week. I'm not suggesting we should become a boring "1-0 to the Southampton" team...but if needs must 3-points is the target not hatfuls of goals.

Remember we are playing decent passing football - starting to mix it up a bit and be a bit more direct when needed. As fans and players we must be patient - OK at 0-0 or 1-0 there opposition are still in the game. They will want to keep it tight so it doesn't go to 2-0 - but then again they will be tempted to have a go.

as of 3pm today just over 18,000 sold according to the ticket office

thats not bad going really, as said there will only be 200 odd Dagenham there. If we can get 20k that will be good, although at £7.50 a ticket we should attract a good crowd v anyone.
