Saint Stimp Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 Pretty impressive given that out of the other members of the squad only 2 even play for Championship teams and the rest are from the Premiership.
woodfc Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 Yes, called up for the England U18 squad to play Poland on ... Tues 16th OCTOBER ?? Maybe thats November.
doddisalegend Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 Well done Alex. From a purely selfish point of view I'd rather he wasn't being noticed, we need to keep our young talent under the radar or he'll be off to bloody Arsenal by the end of the season:cry:
Saint-Reece Posted 29 October, 2010 Author Posted 29 October, 2010 I'm very happy for him, should give him a new experience
Matthew Le God Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 (edited) Well done Alex. Especially considering he has been playing for Saints in the Premier League academy leagues in a number of age groups. Edited 29 October, 2010 by Matthew Le God
st alex Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 I'd imagine every scouting setup at Premier League clubs is aware of him already, England call up or not. As would have been the case with Walcott, but once the press noticed him they almost seemed to orchestrate the move themselves, giving him so much coverage that it made not moving almost impossible.
Saint Stimp Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 I'd imagine every scouting setup at Premier League clubs is aware of him already, England call up or not. Fact, I doubt there are many promising young players the top teams are unaware of.
The Kraken Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 I'd imagine every scouting setup at Premier League clubs is aware of him already, England call up or not. Especially considering he has been playing for Saints in the Premier League academy leagues in a number of age groups. It probably goes much further than that. I met Watford's scout a couple of weeks back and he knew about loads of our youngsters, mentioning specifically Jake Thompson (yes, I know he left), McNish, Mills and Reeves while also saying that Chamberlain was a special talent.
paris Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 Yes great for the lad ,i guess his price goes up aswell of course ...
ericofarabia Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Yes great for the lad ,i guess his price goes up aswell of course ... and so the seed of doubt is sown...... once he starts comparing pocket money with the youngsters at bigger clubs. Over the years back to the likes of Stevie Williams, Danny Wallace, Micky Channon, Beattie, Bridgey, Surman and Theo, International call ups at any level seem to have an unsettling affect on players once they are hangin with the big boys
Gingeletiss Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 I still maintain, that no youngster should be allowed to move clubs until he is 22 years old. Then there should be a transfer fee involved.
Miltonaggro Posted 30 October, 2010 Posted 30 October, 2010 Good luck to the lad, he is a real prospect. The key to the likes of Lallana and Chamberlain staying put is promotion and realistic reward, simple as that. Given their ages if we keep making real progress so will they. If a big club were to come calling when we were near the top of the Championship or in the Premiership in a few years I think Cortese's response and valuation might frighten a few off!...
