RonManager Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 (edited) Has our record against clubs with new managers actually ever been scientifically recorded? Please list below any instances you know about and we'll test the theory to destruction. I'll add them to this post. Season 2010-11 Plymouth - Peter Reid - lost 0-1 Notts County - Paul Ince - won 3-1 Season 2009-10 Colchester - Aidy Boothroyd - drew 0-0 Brighton - Gus Poyet - lost 1-3 Orient - Russell Slade - won 2-1 Season 2006-7 Coventry - Iain Dowie - lost 1-2 ------------------------------------------------------------------- As far as our manager's first game in charge goes (thanks Lighthouse) - Wigley lost to Bolton Redknapp drew with Boro Burley lost at Watford Dodd and Gorman beat Bury (first league game lost to Norwich) Pearson lost against Plymouth (he only took over a couple of hours before, his first real game in charge was a draw at Scunny) Poortaloo lost at Cardiff Wotte drew at Norwich Pardew drew with Millwall Adkins lost to the Dons. That's 6 defeats and 3 draws since a Saints manager last won his first game in charge Edited 30 October, 2010 by RonManager updated
niceandfriendly Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 To believe there is some sort of mystical, magical effect, brought on by some higher being that a manager always wins against us on his first game is fiction. To believe that it just happens because it happens is fact. It's happened so bloody often. But no kids, there is no god and there are no special beings with magic powers.
Stu Man Do Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 Coventry away in the play off season Dowies first game in charge we lost 2-1
Lighthouse Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 It's a myth, just like the always losing on Sky syndrome.
Lighthouse Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 Sturrock beat Liverpool Wigley lost to Bolton Redknapp drew with Boro Burley lost at Watford Dodd and Gorman beat Bury (first league game lost to Norwich) Pearson lost against Plymouth (he only took over a couple of hours before, his first real game in charge was a draw at Scunny) Poortaloo lost at Cardiff Wotte drew at Norwich Pardew drew with Millwall Adkins lost to the Dons. Rory Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 It's all true. We will lose on Saturday and lose the next time we're on Sky Sports.
Marsdinho Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 More FACTS... If a striker has been on a goal drought - they will end it against Saints. If an outfield player has never scored for their club - they will against Saints. If a team hasn't won away all season - They will win against Saints.
SFC Forever Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 We do know how to cheer each other up don't we. We will win on saturday - Fact. I hope
Seaside Saint 2 Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 Wasn't the win over Leyton Orient at home last season Russell Slade's first game?
brightspark Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 The only reason we lost to Plymouth was because they had new manager syndrome, we don't win on the opening day of the season, Plymouth were our bogey team, and the game was on Sky. It was nothing to do with the performance or the fact we missed chances, facts were always going rear their ugly heads.
RonManager Posted 29 October, 2010 Author Posted 29 October, 2010 Wasn't the win over Leyton Orient at home last season Russell Slade's first game? Yes it was. A win? Tsch Tsch!
St Chalet Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 Fact when it is their manager, fiction with our's.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 29 October, 2010 Posted 29 October, 2010 Doesnt matter about their new manager. We will win tomorrow. I feel confident. Please inform the media.
