dune Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 There you go. http://www.copas.co.uk/turkey/index.html
Robsk II Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 People speak fairly well of Stares in Romsey. Dunno though, don't buy meat any more.
benjii Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 The butcher on Winchester Road, near the big roundabout, has sold me some good meat in the past. Can't remember the name now though!
scotty Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 the butcher shop, terminus terrace. You dont need to go anywhere else for your meat [cue finbarr saunders] and they have an online ordering system, deliveries only to central soton tho. Very good quality and reasonably priced. ^and to add to Benjis post, thats Uptons, also good but kind of pricey
dune Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 This breed is recomended by the top chefs... http://www.peelesblackturkeys.co.uk/index.shtml
Robsk II Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 We've gone over this. I'm not actually a ginge. My gf is sort of auburn though, so feel free to joke about that one, because she's hot, too. Plus I'm more of a cop-out veggie; still eat fish because it was meant to be a bit of a tester rather than something I thought I'd ever be able to stick to. No seafood as well would have been a step too far.
dune Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 Anyway enough of Turkeys. I would recomend a free range slow reared ****erel. Far superior in taste to a Turkey imho. http://www.packingtonpoultry.co.uk/index.php
Andy_Porter Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 We go to Uptons, think last year our turkey was 90 quid. Had to go and get it on Christmas eve and they had a champagne reception. http://www.uptonsbutchers.co.uk

Always very hepful and top top quality.
dune Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 Another suggestion would be a venison haunch (boned and rolled or on the bone). Venison is a bit "gamey" so might not be to everyones taste, but personally I love it and it's always been tender when i've had it.

miserableoldgit Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 We have been getting our meat delivered by these people for some years. Not especially cheap but never had a duff bit of meat :- http://www.farmerschoice.co.uk/
buctootim Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 Not local but had one of these last Christmas. Fantastic, no comparison with turkey. Pricey but worth it for once a year. http://www.coedwynog-geese.co.uk/
trousers Posted 27 October, 2010 Author Posted 27 October, 2010 4 minutes and actioned with pleasure. Cheers. Much quicker than the old lot ;-)
trousers Posted 27 October, 2010 Author Posted 27 October, 2010 And, to go with the spelling error, might I opine that it should read 'The Trousers' Household IS looking.......'? No thanks required Actually, that's well spotted but you've highlighted the wrong mistake. Being a Tory toff we obviously have more than one house so it should have read: "the Trousers households are..." You were right about no thanks being required though... ;-))
Big John Posted 27 October, 2010 Posted 27 October, 2010 (edited) a bird in a bird in a bird, lovely and Uptons just won second place in the national pork sausage champs. also, i beleive that there is a great buffalo farm near basingstoke run by an ex F1 driver, name escapes me atm. http://www.laverstokepark.co.uk/about-laverstoke-park Jody Sheckter owns it. Special K Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 Thats the one Benji recommended and gets a third vote from me. Always very hepful and top top quality. And me. Terrific butchers and great service too. You can reserve online for Christmas to avoid the large queues that form the week before.
Robsk II Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 rule 1 Not sure I'd be allowed. I do have some nice pictures though; she's quite the liberal sort.

ecuk268 Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 Thats the one Benji recommended and gets a third vote from me. Always very hepful and top top quality. I'd fourth this. Live just up the road and go there regularly. Not cheap but good quality. They're in the National Sausage Championships again this year.

Johnny Shearer Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 a bird in a bird in a bird, lovely and Uptons just won second place in the national pork sausage champs. also, i beleive that there is a great buffalo farm near basingstoke run by an ex F1 driver, name escapes me atm. http://www.laverstokepark.co.uk/about-laverstoke-park Jody Sheckter owns it. Used to work at Laverstoke. Very good meat, all organic as well. I got a chicken for Xmas there a couple of years ago for around £22 (thats with a discount) but it was massive and excellent. Also advise on getting the freshly made pies the butcher does. The pastry is amazing and they are stock full of meat. Turkey and curry. Buffalo and beans. Buffalo and blue cheese. Chicken. Beef and stout. All amazing!
Smirking_Saint Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 (edited) I use Owtons quite a lot, always a good service and always a good standard of food. Not the cheapest though but you get a great standard of meat and they often chuck in a few extras. They chucked me some award winning sausages the other day when i bought some mince and chicken. They were lovely. No idea on their xmas range though. Not the best website though http://www.online-farmshop.co.uk/shop I would love to try a bird in a bird in a bird though, i may try and cook it one day. Just found the Xmas hamper, its actually a pretty good deal - http://www.online-farmshop.co.uk/shop/details/21/16/christmas-hamper/christmas-hamper Edited 28 October, 2010 by Smirking_Saint
swannymere Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 http://www.westlandsfarmshop.co.uk is fantastic value for money and the meat is great quality, you can see the animals in the fields. Not sure they do their own poultry i think they get it from a farm nearby, the game is local. Highly recommended, got a Black Turkey a couple of years ago and was surprised at the difference in taste and texture between it and a 'regular' turkey, almost 'gamey' in comparison. It's near Wickham.
Petersfield Saint Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 Not local but had one of these last Christmas. Fantastic, no comparison with turkey. Pricey but worth it for once a year. http://www.coedwynog-geese.co.uk/ +1; spent Xmas in Germany last year (the missus is from there) and had goose - absolutely bloody fantastic and I love turkey normally!
Durleyfos Posted 28 October, 2010 Posted 28 October, 2010 I can recomend Owton's as well. They do great BBQ packs in the summer, too.
