The Cat Posted 25 October, 2010 Share Posted 25 October, 2010 6 years ago. Blimey. Anyone that loved his shows may be interested in listening to his son, Tom Ravenscroft, who is on 6 Music for a few hours every Friday from 9pm. He plays similarly random genres like his Dad used to and presents in a very understated way. As far as I'm concerned it's the best show on UK radio by a long distance. swannymere Posted 26 October, 2010 Share Posted 26 October, 2010 Met the great man at my first Glastonbury in 1999! Arrived on site on the Thursday and was wandering round near where the bandstand is and my mate spotted him looking at some stall. So we walked upto him and said hello, shook his hand and had a chat about what music we were going to see and what he thought we should see (Lonnie Donegan as he's quite old and it might be your last opportunity!) and then about football and actually made him late for his show, he was actually dragged away by a producer. Top bloke and completely down to earth, legend is used far too frequently for nobodies, Mr.Peel deserved the title.
RonManager Posted 26 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 26 October, 2010 I met him in London in 1979. I was there on a college field trip to the Museum of Science. I hopped up onto the footplate of a steam loco and a chap was already upthere with his back to me. When he turned round it was none other than the great man himself. I went into some kind of shock and didn't say a word, just bathed in his god-like presence until he went.
