SNSUN Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 Is it just me, or is anyone else worried by Lee's hotheadedness? I noticed today when a decision went against him, incorrectly so I mustard mitt, he screamed red faced at the ref. Having seen him sent off against Swindon, and hearing about his bar brawl, does he need to tone it down? I'm all for passion for the game, but it worries me he'll see red again if he keeps it up.
bpsaint Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 He was probably fed up with getting thrown about by the Oldham defence and having the ref do nothing about it. He's only human, there's only so much someone can take.
JonnyLove Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 To be fair the way the ref was today I don't think there would be anyone who did not want to punch him (apart from the oldham players that is)
Saint_clark Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 As JonnyLove says, even the calmest of people around me today were going mental at the ref. No surprise that a player whose game relies quite heavily on his passion was getting quite annoyed.
RobM Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 It's not like he is inexperienced or particularly young (for a footballer) though, he must have come up against idiot Ref's before so should know how to deal with them.
dan17 Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 I think to be honest that it helps make him the player he is - you certainly can't argue about his passion. It's also probably worth bearing in mind that we don't know the full details of the 'bar brawl' night. I'd play him from the start next week.

Fair point, but as I said players all have different aspects to their game. John Terry being quiet, not getting stuck in etc. would not be right. But equally if Ryan Giggs was screaming his head off every 5 minutes I doubt he would be able to control games as he does.

Don't let him hear you say that about him .... he'd flatten you
dune Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 Leave him be. It's part of the entertainment and more importantly it's good to have a few players on the pitch that show passion. That said the cat may be out of the bag now and opposition managers will encourage their players to "rough him up" to try to draw a reaction and a sending off. From NA's perspective it's about warning him of this without sterilising the advantage a player like him brings to the team.
RobM Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 It does indeed take all sorts. I'm all for passion and aggression where needed, I just worry when it starts getting directed at the officials. Remember that Prutton lad...

To be fair he seems to have a red face 99% of the time.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 If someone elbowed me in the face and then threw me to the floor, I would do a bit more than scream red faced. Think he done well not to smash the dirty c*nt.
SO16_Saint Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 To be fair he seems to have a red face 99% of the time. Alex Ferguson's love child?
Saint Charlie Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 Got to love how Barney plays the game! Very involved all the time. He was all over Chambo when his goal went in - seemed happier than Chamberlain himself!
Saint_lambden Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 Not exactly surprised he wanted to punch D'Urso , about 20,000 people wanted to today.
Stanley Saint Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 Think we needed a bit for that today. Also, saw another side of Barnard today. Just before the teams came out for the second half, he shot a ball into the crowd at the Chapel end. It probably flattened a child, coz Barny leapt over the barriers and went up the seats to check the kid was alright. I've seen plenty of players do that and then not even look or wave, so credit where it's due.
miserableoldgit Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 Until he came on, there wasn`t a lot of "fight" from the rest of them.
Saint Charlie Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 He was also having a joke when he couldn't take a throw in with his bandage on!
ST Randy Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 I take it you haven't seen Harding's reactions when a decision goes against him
Mr Saints Posted 24 October, 2010 Posted 24 October, 2010 I take it you haven't seen Harding's reactions when a decision goes against him They don't compare to his reaction when a ball boy ****s up another throw to him when he's ready to take a quick throw in. Classic.
paulwantsapint Posted 24 October, 2010 Posted 24 October, 2010 As long as Barney knows not to cross the line his fire is great but his trouble is he is now a marked man, NA needs to remind him the best way to get his own back on defenders who kick, punch, elbow him is to retaliate by scoring only wish someone had taken prutton aside just before the arsenal game he was on fire
BadgerBadger Posted 24 October, 2010 Posted 24 October, 2010 Bring it on, I'd rather miss him for some games through being sent off than temper the passion
Saint-Reece Posted 24 October, 2010 Posted 24 October, 2010 Not exactly surprised he wanted to punch D'Urso , about 20,000 people wanted to today. I always want to hit D'Urso he always has something against us when he is reffing.
dronskisaint Posted 24 October, 2010 Posted 24 October, 2010 D'Urso needed telling for sure...BSP next season for him I hope. Barney has passion....when he gets the run of the ball that turns in to goals & he's happy passionate not punchy passionate...it will come!
paulwantsapint Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 After watching barney at notts county get thrown all over the place & get very little protection was impressed that he didn't loss his temper, yes he told the ref that he was useless but he kept getting up dusting himself off & going back for more Also I was glad that it was Rickie who explained how useless the officials were to the ref as it let barney play without the fear of a 2nd yellow
moon monkey Posted 31 October, 2010 Posted 31 October, 2010 I love Barney's temper, the guy fights for 90 mins and shows great spirit. He gets kicked around a lot and I think he handles it superbly. He will be a cult hero.
