Chez Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Got a groin strain. Anyone tried the compression shorts. Do they help at all? I'm doing the Great South run on Sunday and I'm running for the Britsh Red Cross so want to get round.
Baj Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 I would say you're NOT doing the great south run on Sunday, sorry You'll do yourself some serious damage if you do.
Dimond Geezer Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Compression shorts will help a little, but you may want to make it the Great South Walk, the last thing you want to do is turn the strain into a tear. I tore mine 15 years ago, and sometimes, even now, it can hurt like hell, usually if I've slept in an awkward position. Good luck with the run/walk (?). I've sponsored a mate a fiver to do it, double if he does it in a Saints shirt.
Smirking_Saint Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 When did you do it ?? From my experience of groin strain (from the football pitch) is that even when you think you have overcome it it seems to come back to haunt you, and it bloody hurts. If your going to give it a go i would be very careful and bare in mind you may reinjure yourself. If you still feel it however you have little chance i feel.
Thedelldays Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Don't do the run.. I did the Plymouth half marathon thinking I was back and well from a knee injury.. Had a support on it during the run etc... I was in a complete mess for weeks.. Luckily we were not doing a great deal with work otherwise I would have been signed off
Chez Posted 22 October, 2010 Author Posted 22 October, 2010 I originally did it several months ago, but I just can't seem to shift it. I played footie last night, overstretched and it hurts again today. Hopefully by Sunday it will have calmed down a bit and with short strides I'll just about muddle through. I think I'll give the compression shorts a go. Just didn't want to buy them if they are rubbish. There's no way I'm pulling out, too much effort doing the training and too much sponsorship money. Best of luck to any Saints doing the run. I'll be at the back being laughed at by idiots in Rhino costumes.

Chez Posted 25 October, 2010 Author Posted 25 October, 2010 well done chez, hows the groin strain? I bought the compressions shorts in the end, but they were uncomfortable so I didn't bother wearing them. I doubt they would have helped much. I was in pain pretty much from two miles onwards, so I nursed myself round and by the end I could hardly move off the finish line. The post race pack included some sort of eucalyptus deap heat style gel that worked absolute wonders though. 1hr 37 minutes was my final time. Not bad for a crock.

PES Posted 25 October, 2010 Posted 25 October, 2010 My feet are completely crushed. I type this from the Ibis in Prague. At the beginning of my holiday. I'm in so much pain, I feel like crying. The euphoria is gone and all i'm left with is constant bloody pain. A warning to all other fatties with low pain thresholdsc do the GSR at your peril.

I owe him a tenner.

Blimey that's impressive, I done it in 1.26.01 and that's me fully fit! Full times are in the echo today if you didn't know.
