Saint_clark Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 "Robert Pires 'not aware' of Crawley Town interest" http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/crawley_town/9112362.stm There for the taking.
alpine_saint Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Fook off. That tw*t denied us the FA Cup.
Saint_clark Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Fook off. That tw*t denied us the FA Cup. Exactly, he owes us.
Tom & Gerry Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Fook off. That tw*t denied us the FA Cup. Didn't Prutton sort that out for us? I think he said he liked our pitch once.
Toadhall Saint Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 I'd take him on a pay as you play contract. Still has a lot to offer and fits a model that has been successful in the past eg Larie's time - old head surrounded by younger legs.
supersonic Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Not for me thanks. Wasa fantastic player in his day, but is now sadly past it, We're supposed to be building for the future, not bringing in old-timers looking for one last pay-day. Would prefer us to spend a bit more money on a youngster with bags of potential
Lighthouse Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Surprised he's not on strike. Whilst I've no doubt he's an exceptional tallent, I'm not really sure he's what we need. We've got plenty of decent midfielders at the moment, all capable of getting us promoted. Plus at 36 I'm not sure Pires really has the legs to be relied upon.
DT Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Thought the same thing myself. I'm sure he's in good nick, and is still box-office. Must be worth a pay as you play.
VectisSaint Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Would fit in well playing behind Rooney, should clearly demonstrate our ambition to Wayne when he joins in January

That's not right, is it NickG - well not according to your Puncheon Puncheon post!.
Ludwig Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Think of what the likes of Lallana/Puncheon could learn from him in 7 months or so...
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Think of what the likes of Lallana/Puncheon could learn from him in 7 months or so... French?
Thedelldays Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Too old? Yet this place was peed offer never signed Lee carsley

sambosa75 Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Past it? Too old? I bet he goes to a higher level than us and plays well. He's a damn good player and younger than Ryan Giggs. We're in League 1 and struggling. My thoughts exactly. Anyone who thinks a former World Cup winner, part of the "Invincibles" Arsenal side and last season playing in La Liga for one of the better sides couldnt do a job for us is mental. He has forgotten more than Puncheon will ever know. If there was any chance, get him in!
Junior Mullet Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Not for me. The rest of the team would not be on the same wavelength. It is a team game afterall as most of the above posters seem to have forgotten.
Snopper Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 I live near Crawley. To be fair, that`s hardly a claim to fame, as such.
david in sweden Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Fook off. That tw*t denied us the FA Cup. steady on Alpine...what you mean is he scored a goal ..and we didn't . Sad but true !.
Village Saint Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Past it? Too old? I bet he goes to a higher level than us and plays well. He's a damn good player and younger than Ryan Giggs. We're in League 1 and struggling. We are the second top side in League One on current form. There are some weirdly pessimistic people on here I know but by no definition is that struggling. Why on earth would we want to disrupt the side to bring in someone who, despite his obvious talent at his peak, is over 36 and was the type of player who relied on the asset of his pace. He has shown nothing in his career so far to suggest he would do what Paine or Ball did, for example, which was to become a different sort of player when over 30 - someone who sat in the middle and orchestrated things around him. I personally hope that our management team, are not wasting their time in even thinking of signing this irrelevance but are concentrating on getting the strongest squad the division has playing better together and in the style that the manager wants.
Crab Lungs Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Portsmouth fans already demanding their club make him an offer... :-/
Scudamore Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Portsmouth fans already demanding their club make him an offer... :-/ How do you know this?
fareham saint phil Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Fook off. That tw*t denied us the FA Cup. Too true, french **** or whatever nationality he is, should never wear the famous sash shirt EVER, unless we bring back fox hunting and use him as bait. then we will see how fast the ****er can run
Right sider Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Sort of figurehead who could spark our season from CM
eelpie Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 He is a p*nis. No thanks. I guess you are bunking your Biology/Anatomy lessons
Saint Fan CaM Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Would be a good addition on a PAYP deal, but I think he'll go somewhere else as he doesn't fit in with the model NC runs here.
Miltonaggro Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Pires certainly does not seem to fit the current blueprint, but worth a gamble (PAYP) as he could be an 'Alan Ball' for this young side. The guy's pedigree is world class and he's always looked after himself, just think of the positive effect on Lallana, Puncheon, and Morgan in particular!...

verlaine1979 Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 ...is over 36 and was the type of player who relied on the asset of his pace. He has shown nothing in his career so far to suggest he would do what Paine or Ball did, for example, which was to become a different sort of player when over 30 - someone who sat in the middle and orchestrated things around him. Actually Pires wasn't that quick really, not compared to the man he replaced (Overmars) - Pires's game was mostly about close control, which isn't as easily eroded by age. He could also pass the ball brilliantly. The idea that Pires couldn't walk into a creative role in any side in League One or the Championship and instantly be among the most dangerous players in the league is ridiculous. You only have to remember how Merson and Prosinecki played for Pompey to see how genuine class tells in the lower leagues well beyond a player's top-level sell by date.
Badger Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 oh, sorry I thought you said 'Pies'. I too made that mistake. We've obviously been conditioned to thinking of Saints and the best catering in the league as synonymous, and the ultimate goal.

st alex Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 I like French people they've got spirit as well as a certain jena se qua. I saw him one time at Heathrow as he was walking to his gate, he seemed to to a decent job then and I'm confident he still can. Would be a great option for us, can also play all across the midfield.

Saint_clark Posted 22 October, 2010 Posted 22 October, 2010 Do you mean "Je ne sais quoi"? I was gonna let it go, but
SuperMikey Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 We'd be mental to turn him down on a free transfer - he CDAJ in the Prem still,
Ewell Posted 23 October, 2010 Posted 23 October, 2010 He could be the touch of class we need. The big problem we have is someone to unlock the door when we play against tight defences especially at home. This guy is a world cup winner, an Arsenal legend, winner of league titles and cups and a born winner. I remember him as a player with drive and energey who passed the ball well and linked up with other players beautifully. He could also score goals. We would be mad not to make an enquiry.

Good gate walkers are just what we want in this league.
