MOBO awards

If I started the MOWO (Music of white origin awards) would that make me a racist?

Does the fact that I think the MOBO awards are racist make me a racist?

I don't like a lot of MOBO i.e. rap, soul etc., does that make me a racist?

Personally, I detest racism, it has no place in today's society but the MOBO awards irritate me.

That's right, Beethoven, Mozart et al were all from Africa

That's classical music and I'm sure they have their own awards.

I have no moral objection to the concept of MOWOs, it's just a silly idea. Having an awards ceremony which lumps together Chas 'n' Dave with Beethoven just because they happen to be white. MOBO works because black music, as far as I can tell, is pretty much in a similar vein. Rap, Hip-hop, contemporary R&B etc.

Is this the annual post about the MOBO's with someone having read something somewhere else and deciding it was funny and reposting it here everybody would think he was some kind of comedy genius, or just some sad ****?

I think it's the former, yes.

When the MOBO awards start excluding white artists I might lend the criticism a semblance of credibility.

Then why not call it the 'Ethnic Minority Awards'?

The Emas. Nice.

A good point but if you view MOBO as racist then your mindset MUST view MOWO as racist surely because you need to apply the same thought process, fairly, to both examples?

Anyway, you're not being racist, what you are highlighting is the unfairness. Or does the music industry not value white artists sufficiently to warrant a MOWO awards ceremony?

Just a question.

Obviously I'm coming from the opposite direction as I am a fan of black music primarily and find very little enjoyable in contemporary white music, although I like Roxy Music and ELP (because of their classical influenced albums). Then again both ELP & Roxy are hardly contemporary are they?

I'm not into Rap and the modern day R'n'B by the way.

I find it a tad ironic that there is a 'Black Police officers association'.

Uproar would ensue if there were a 'White Police officers association' would there not ?

You just beat me to to this, been saying for years that there should not be a Police Officers association that is related to creed or colour

No.

Classical

Folk

Country & Western

Bluegrass

Pop

If you're going to divide country, folk and blue grass up into separate genres then the amount of rock genres far outweigh any other. Pop music is colourless and derivative of soul and rock 'n' roll.

The problem with the MOBO's is nothing to do with race or whatever, more the fact that it lacks any sort of credibility because they give the awards to complete dump like JLS and N Dubz.

what do you call a fit bird with 2 cUUnts?

Ndubz

:uhoh:

You don't think country and western, folk and bluegrass are distinct genres?

BTW, this suddenly reminds me of a heated discussion I once had with the manager of a music store who put all the folk, classical and pop singers like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby into one amorphous section called "Easy Listening". Can you imagine? Bartok and Shostakovich as Easy Listening!

And "Urban Contemporary"? Give me a break!

Evening (for)

National

Ethnic

Music

Awards

Why are all the judges on the X Factor white?

There's one to think about eh? eh?

And why no gay judges either eh? eh?

Oh come on, one of them is a closet gay.

I'm not going to say which one, though.

I'm sure it can be worked out...

No, I think they are. It's just that rock music has so many distinct genres that I think that backs up my claim that most music genres are of black origin, or at least partly black.

It seems like these days if a white artist sings a pop song, it's pop and if Alicia Dixon sings the same song it's R&B.

I think it should be more inclusive, What about the Music Industry Night (for) General Excellence?

I agree, they should just skip the whole black/white thing, it's all prejudice. Just one big award ceremony for all genres

Honouring

Reggae

Soul

Electro

Folk

Urban

Classical

Karaoke

Europop
