Gareth Bale

Actually, I lived in England for 30 years before moving here, and its a totally different country with a different language or culture. So I would choose England.

Are you one of the "idiots" who cheer on the likes of Keven Pietersen for England ?

Well Bale lived in Cardiff for most of his young life, which is also a totally different country with a different language, so no suprises why he wants to play for them is it.

And no.

Just thinking about the talent the club has nurtured over the years, how about this lineup as a Saints trainee XI:

ST: Mike Channon

ST: Alan Shearer

LM: Gareth Bale

CM: Steve Williams

CM: MLT

RM: Terry Paine

LB: Wayne Bridge\Steve Mills

CH: Nick Holmes

CH: Mark Wright (not technically a trainee but signed very young)

RB: Jason Dodd

GK: Tim Flowers (not technically a trainee but signed very young)

What a team! Goals all over the place.

How much would that lot be worth at today's prices?

You can add Danny Wallace, Rod Wallace and Theo Walcott to the subs bench.

Apparently we took Tommy Forecast instead of a sell on clause. More likely though that we took a little more cash upfront, instead of a sell on.

Thanks for the info. And people are still saying Lowe was a good business man? Tommy Forecast instead of a cut of perhaps 30million.

You really are a lemon of the highest order.

You have a go at Bale for not choosing to play for England despite not being English, but you also have a go at Pietersen who did indeed decide to play for England despite not being English.

To me to you to me to you.

I had a go at Pietersen, did I ?

Strange, I thought I was having a go at Le God - The Legend.

Mental

That's just plain b*ll*cks, sorry.

Is it? So they don't have their own language? They don't have seperate Rugby or Football teams? So you think the UK should be as one on a sporting front, thus getting rid of England too??

You are so ignorant it hurts.

Watching walcott score that goal tonight and hearing about bale I personally find it very depressing. They may well have came through the youth team but they will never be remembered as great saints players, just what could have been if they had stayed.

they would have left sooner or later anyway even if we had stayed up, but we could have had a few more years out of each of them had we not have got relegated. Could probably have got an extra £10m each for them in that case, had a much better side, who knows what would have happened if Lowe had put if hand in his pocket and given Redknapp the money we needed to keep us up. If only.......

Yeah of course they would have left eventually but if they achieved something first they could have been saints greats, now they are top players who have a loose connection with our club. I feel no sense of enjoyment in seeing them do well.

I'm ignorant ?? I'M IGNORANT ??

Go to Cardiff (erm, where Bale comes from...) and try to find a Welsh speaker. And remind me which country's League all the top (relative, I know...) Welsh clubs play.

Or alternatively, carry on embarassing yourself.

"Relative" to Saints, presumably; currently Cardiff 21st, Swansea 23rd, Saints 50th.

Perhaps we should apply to join the Welsh league.

I'm fully aware that it's a small % who speak Welsh in Wales, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The 2001 census stated that over 20% speak Welsh with 11% in Cardiff..... So your "that's ********" statement was factually incorrect. And yes, to imply that Bale should play for ENGLAND when is is WELSH and from WALES is complete ignorance on your part. Nice way to avoid the main part of the argument though, which is that you obviously support a UK football and rugby team...

The fact that Swansea and Cardiff play in the English league is another matter, but a sham in my opinion.

I have just read that we renegotiated our way out of the sell on clause for Bale when we were cash strapped and so at least some newspapers recognise he was at SFC. I cannot blame whoever it was for that deal as you have few options when you cannot pay the wages.

Where is this Wales place and is it relevant to footbal?

Lol, a pity young Gareth did not ask himself this very question....

If he is so proud of being Welsh, why hasnt he eschewed success and money altogether and isnt plying his trade for the Daffodil and Leek pub, Merthy Tydfill, in the Sheepsh*gger Sunday League ?

Right, so you'd have to ask 10 people in Cardiff to find one that speaks the lingo.

Wow, what a stranglehold it has on their cultural identity....

And of course, the other 89% dont speak ENGLISH, but a multitude of other languages, dont they ?

Right, so by your reasoning, anyone from Southern Ireland, Canada, USA, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand should all be able to play for England, because they speak English

Where is your arguement heading next Alps?

Nooope. They are clearly distinct countries that do have a separate identity. Wales's status is a f**king joke.

Bale could have played for England and achieved something and he chose Wales on an issue of pride. Bonkers, imo.

Well we'll agree to disagree then, because where i'm sitting he chose to play for Wales because he's Welsh. You do seem one of those people who think the world starts and ends in England, yet lives abroad. Very odd.

I think you'll find he probably chose Wales because he's Welsh! That's not an issue of pride, it's a statement of fact. It's like when Le Tiss was potentially sounded out about playing for France; as far as he was concerned he was English and that's who he wanted to play for. There's no stupidity involved whatsoever.

It's true that he may go through his entire career without gracing a single international tournament, but at the end of the day if he can be part of a Welsh team that makes a Euro champ or World Cup then that would be a terrific achievement.

What would he have achieved with England? mediocrity?

Just read this on Mick Channon's site http://www.mickchannon.tv/news.php Classic Windmill

There are often too many classic quotes of the week to keep track on with MRC at times, but his latest gripe cannot go unreported. When discussing Gareth Bale's remarkable hat-trick at the San Siro against Inter Milan last night, it wasn't the Tottenham man's class and ability that was the major talking point, but his nationality that irked the Boss.

"What a **** he is! Why does he want to play for Wales?"

When informed that Bale was not only born in Cardiff, but that his entire family are Welsh through and through, he followed up his well thought out, reasoned position by asserting,

"He started out at Southampton for ****'s sake, he should be qualified for England, otherwise there's no point in these foreigners coming over here, us developing them and then not reaping the rewards."

At this stage, Mick was reminded that he could have played for Wales courtesy of his maternal grandmother. This is when the conversation abruptly came to a halt as the former England International stormed out to oversee second lot.
