Crab Lungs Posted 22 October, 2010 Share Posted 22 October, 2010 Funny how he's devoloped into a better player under Dinosaur Redknapp than Walcott has under Prof Wenger. I think it's more to do with Bale being more a footballer than a sprinter, tbf. Walcott will do ok in his career, but Bale is another level... Walcott will do ok in his career, but Bale is another level... Walcott has been injured every time he has looked like shifting up a gear, which is unfortunate. I think Walcott needs some game time and a real run in the side, i wonder if Arsenal was the best place for him ? Bale is class however, real class and still very young, he has the potential to be one of the best but is not there yet.
RinNY Posted 23 October, 2010 Share Posted 23 October, 2010 It's absolutely tragic thinking of what a force Saints could have been, with Walcott playing down the right, Bale down the left, and Kenwyne Jones through the middle ... tragic!
ericofarabia Posted 23 October, 2010 Share Posted 23 October, 2010 Remember seeing his debut for the reserves at just 15... I put a report on Saintslist about the game and how impressed I was with him... I got his name wrong and called him Gareth Hall or something like that (didn't have a teamsheet), and got an email back from his Mum, offlist, correcting me and thanking me for my comments. Shame I never kept it! You probably took umbrage to her calling you a jizz mopping mong for getting his name wrong, and deleted it pronto

Never mind that, think instead about what kind of force we CAN be in the future, with Oxlande Chamberlain on the right, Lallana on the left... hopefully they're just the first our academy will produce with the investment going into it Depending on how tight the financial fair play laws get, it could end up being the academies that decide the superpowers of the English game over the coming years. And who knows, if the Leibherrs are serious about pushing us up the leagues over the coming years, maybe we'll see Bale in a Saints shirt again one day. Lighthouse Posted 23 October, 2010 Share Posted 23 October, 2010 Been a good week for our old leff backs really. Have to wonder how long Bale will stay at Spuds though. Can quite easily see him being Giggs' long term replacement. Just as long as he doesn't go to Arsenal. Not sure I could stomache seeing him and Theo lifting the Champs League trophy together. sandwichsaint Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 Really looking forward to seeing him playing against England - Glenn Johnson (pmsl) has probably already pre-booked his 'slight groin strain', for both of those dates. He is just walking past top class European defenders like they aren't there. Amazing. That 3rd goal summed up his domination of the Inter defence. Receives the call, looks up "I've got the beating of you", puts the ball 40 yards in front of him and runs the defender then puts in a perfect cross that I could score from (if I'd been goal hanging). He was immense last night - makes you think about where we'd be if we hadn't gone down - though by now he'd have left anyway.

Scummer Posted 3 November, 2010 Share Posted 3 November, 2010 Ryan Giggs wasn't eligible to play for England, and I'm pretty sure Bale isn't either. In fact Ryan Giggs WAS eligible to play for England because his dad was English. However his family had a lot of trouble from his dad and he didnt help his mum with his upbringing, hence he chose Wales and not England. Going back 20 years I just wish we could have held onto Alan Shearer and Rod Wallace for a couple more seasons. What a devastating forward line that was and it would have only got better. If there was a league table of 'clubs that have contributed the most quality players' then I'm confident that Saints would be right up there, to think of the fantastic talent that we have had to let go of over the years...........it's gutting. As is happens the rules have now changed, and if he was educated in England for 5 or more years (Which he was) then under the new rules he could have, but not when it was relevant. I'm constantly amazed by the number of people that still think Giggs was eligible for England. He represented England Schoolboys (as Ryan Wilson), but only because he attended an English school. His family lineage is completely Welsh so there was never an option to play for England, even if he had wanted to (which he has previously stated he never did). As for Bale, his parents are both Welsh though he has an English grandmother so could feasibly have played for us, but sadly the Taffs got in there first. I personally wish they would change it to place of birth or parents nationality only. You do realise that the UK is made up of four seperate countries don't you, and not just England? You live in Austria, who would you choose to play for, Austria or England? I don't want him playing for England anyway, seeing as he is Welsh. And that's the way it will be until something goes bang in the financial world of football. Tottenham won't even be able to keep hold of him now and one of the top three will get him. But i do genuinely think that some sort of financial parity will happen in the game within the next 10 years, be it imposed by FIFA, UEFA or the FA or self inflicted through some financial disaster (ala pompey), which might just help little old clubs like us
