Funny how he's devoloped into a better player under Dinosaur Redknapp than Walcott has under Prof Wenger.

I think it's more to do with Bale being more a footballer than a sprinter, tbf. Walcott will do ok in his career, but Bale is another level...

Walcott has been injured every time he has looked like shifting up a gear, which is unfortunate. I think Walcott needs some game time and a real run in the side, i wonder if Arsenal was the best place for him ?

Bale is class however, real class and still very young, he has the potential to be one of the best but is not there yet.

It's absolutely tragic thinking of what a force Saints could have been, with Walcott playing down the right, Bale down the left, and Kenwyne Jones through the middle ... tragic!

Remember seeing his debut for the reserves at just 15... I put a report on Saintslist about the game and how impressed I was with him... I got his name wrong and called him Gareth Hall or something like that (didn't have a teamsheet), and got an email back from his Mum, offlist, correcting me and thanking me for my comments. Shame I never kept it!

You probably took umbrage to her calling you a jizz mopping mong for getting his name wrong, and deleted it pronto ;)

Never mind that, think instead about what kind of force we CAN be in the future, with Oxlande Chamberlain on the right, Lallana on the left... hopefully they're just the first our academy will produce with the investment going into it :D

Depending on how tight the financial fair play laws get, it could end up being the academies that decide the superpowers of the English game over the coming years.

And who knows, if the Leibherrs are serious about pushing us up the leagues over the coming years, maybe we'll see Bale in a Saints shirt again one day.

Been a good week for our old leff backs really. Have to wonder how long Bale will stay at Spuds though. Can quite easily see him being Giggs' long term replacement. Just as long as he doesn't go to Arsenal. Not sure I could stomache seeing him and Theo lifting the Champs League trophy together. :?

only messi better than him.

So, when Saints fans sing...

" He plays on the left, he plays on the right,

Adam Lallana, makes Messi look sh1te!"

...they're really telling fibs......!!!

Really looking forward to seeing him playing against England - Glenn Johnson (pmsl) has probably already pre-booked his 'slight groin strain', for both of those dates.

Big shame we will never see Bale play in a World Cup Finals tho.

Just seen the highlights of their game tonight.

Wow. Just wow.

He is just walking past top class European defenders like they aren't there. Amazing.

That 3rd goal summed up his domination of the Inter defence. Receives the call, looks up "I've got the beating of you", puts the ball 40 yards in front of him and runs the defender then puts in a perfect cross that I could score from (if I'd been goal hanging).

He was immense last night - makes you think about where we'd be if we hadn't gone down - though by now he'd have left anyway.

Posted

he is my favourite NON saints player...

even if we never had gone down that year..there would have been no way we could have kept hold of him for long playing like this...

what a brilliant player

So he would have had the choice to play for all 4 home countries. And he chose Wales.

Inspired.

If you're not trolling, then your arrogance knows no limit.

As he was born in Cardiff, I am fairly certain his priority was playing for Wales, not helping 'make England great'.

In the pub last night after our game, I asked how much people thought he was worth, bearing in mind the over-inflated prices of players these days and what it would take for Spurs to sell him.

Consensus was about £50m.

Not if they dont hurry up and give Adam a new deal!

Why did the monkey-faced arse choose to play for Wales ?

He could have helped make England great.

I would guess you have the face of a hippopotamus's arse.

If you were accused of having the brain of a monkey it would flatter you.

Then he was stupid. Its like choosing to play for Reading when Manyoo are offering you a contract. Playing for England would have guaranteed him fame and riches.

Consider this - like Ryan Giggs before him, he will never grace the ultimate stage - the World Cup Finals.

Oh wow, lookee lookee here - no pithy comeback to my "nonsense"

Ryan Giggs wasn't eligible to play for England, and I'm pretty sure Bale isn't either. You can only play for the home nation of your birth, subject to the usual parent/grandparent allowances. So yes, I'm afraid you are talking nonsense in this instance.

Fifa's executive committee last month ratified a home nations-backed proposal to change the eligibility criteria as now players with five years of compulsory education in that country can now represent that nation.

(Thats a quote from last year)

So, you are familiar with the Bale family tree then, are you ?

I suggest you button it and think/check before you conclude someone is writing nonsense.

In fact Ryan Giggs WAS eligible to play for England because his dad was English. However his family had a lot of trouble from his dad and he didnt help his mum with his upbringing, hence he chose Wales and not England.

In terms of Bale, I believe one of his parents is also English but he was born and raised in Cardiff so no surprise that he opted to play for them.

Oh, and I suggest you check his Wikipedia entry, Mr Smart-Ar*e.......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gareth_Bale

"" Bale was eligible to play for England, through his grandmother, but he stated in 2007 that:

"It is an honour to play for Wales... Nobody ever got in touch with me personally from England, only through my agent."[40] ""

As I said, hes a mug.

But you were saying he had the choice of playing for all 4 home countries?

Posted
Heaven forbid a proud welshman plays for his own country instead of England.

There's proud, then there is stupid.

He might go off an be a Galactico at some point, but he will never have the Talismanic effect on a World Cup campaign like a Geoff Hurst, Diego Maradonna, Toto Schillachi, Gary Lineker, Paul Gascoigne, etc.

Posted
But you were saying he had the choice of playing for all 4 home countries?

Is that an admission of being wrong ?

Be serious. Choosing from the 4 would have been a straight fight between England or Wales anyway. Who chooses to play for Scotland or Northern Ireland when they can play for England ?

Was Le Tiss stupid for not leaving Saints when Spurs and Chelsea came calling?

If I was in his position, born and raised in England, but moved to Brazil to play my football, I wouldnt forget my routes and play for Brazil because my great auntie was called Consuella.

Sorry mate his Dad was Welsh. It is a myth that he could have played for England.

As is happens the rules have now changed, and if he was educated in England for 5 or more years (Which he was) then under the new rules he could have, but not when it was relevant.

.....and not the first time (or the last) that Saints have had to let go of some of the best talent in the business.

Going back 20 years I just wish we could have held onto Alan Shearer and Rod Wallace for a couple more seasons. What a devastating forward line that was and it would have only got better.

If there was a league table of 'clubs that have contributed the most quality players' then I'm confident that Saints would be right up there, to think of the fantastic talent that we have had to let go of over the years...........it's gutting.

I'm constantly amazed by the number of people that still think Giggs was eligible for England. He represented England Schoolboys (as Ryan Wilson), but only because he attended an English school. His family lineage is completely Welsh so there was never an option to play for England, even if he had wanted to (which he has previously stated he never did).

As for Bale, his parents are both Welsh though he has an English grandmother so could feasibly have played for us, but sadly the Taffs got in there first.

when you throw in bale, jones, walcott and le tiss, shearer, wallace and lesser extent lallana, mills etc

we would be right up there with Man U, Arsenal, Villa, Boro, Citeh, everton....not bad company

People who were born in Scotland or Northern Ireland, and who choose not to play for England through their great great grandmother or some other pathetic rule like that. I personally wish they would change it to place of birth or parents nationality only. You do realise that the UK is made up of four seperate countries don't you, and not just England? You live in Austria, who would you choose to play for, Austria or England? I don't want him playing for England anyway, seeing as he is Welsh. I bet you're one of those idiots who wants Arteta to play for England too aren't you. Actually, why stop there??

I take it because you don't have much to moan about with Saints at the moment you have moved onto something else?

And that's the way it will be until something goes bang in the financial world of football. Tottenham won't even be able to keep hold of him now and one of the top three will get him.

But i do genuinely think that some sort of financial parity will happen in the game within the next 10 years, be it imposed by FIFA, UEFA or the FA or self inflicted through some financial disaster (ala pompey), which might just help little old clubs like us

He is also unlikely to spend his summers playing in International tournaments, which makes him an even more attractive transfer target. I would not be suprised if Man Utd went for him as a like for like replacement for Giggs.

Actually, I lived in England for 30 years before moving here, and its a totally different country with a different language or culture. So I would choose England.

Are you one of the "idiots" who cheer on the likes of Keven Pietersen for England ?
