Gareth Bale

Thats my point, him and Jones were the reasons we were in that playoff, and Davies went out to injure them. Cheating c*nt.

Absolutely spot b0ll0ck on - it was criminal and so obvious they were targetted to be crocked! And that's the one reason I would NEVER want that twot Davies to ever manage at Saints.

Wonder if we negotiated a sell on clause when we sold him?

Well basically because we aren't a bunch of fecking cheating smelly fish bothering khunts we accepted a one off final payment and a bonus of getting Mr Forecast tied up in a 5 year contract, to try and stave off bankruptcy and pay our players and other bills on time, instead of the structured up to 10 million quid (or was it 12?) over a period of time. Much the same applied to Theo as well except no Forecast chucked in - maybe Pulis was somehow factored in? Hmph ... who says cheats never proper.

We may well hold the moral high ground (as do 90% of clubs) but it unfortunately couldn't stop our demise, whilst those web toed pond dwellers cheated their way to Fa Cup Finals and signed players well beyond their means and totally avoided paying taxes, fees and charitable organisations as well as numerous local enterprises, schools and businesses etc etc .... yet had the audacity and bloody bare faced cheek to cry foul when Inter or some other italian club didn't cough up on time recently. Unbeleivable.

Anyway well done Gareth .... shame you aren't English!!

He's only the best left sided player in the world because he left us,don't get me wrong I was gutted when he left but he wasn't going to achieve anything here.

because he would never play at a sufficiently high level to show it.Playing for Saints in the last 10 years or so is a real conundrum, players may love the club but they just have to leave cos we will never go anywhere because we fill our side with mediocrity all the time. Lallana and Morgan need to leave as soon as possible to develop their talents to the full because at SFC they'll always be considered as second best to (relative) crap like Lambert.

made by Georges Prost would be more fitting. Now he's doing it again in Lyon.

fair point. I wonder how many clubs ever get to keep their young talent? I imagine there are a lot of clubs who would be doing a lot better if they could keep hold of their talented youth players rather than knowing they'll be out the door sooner rather than latter. Matty really was a one off in modern football.

clubs with genuine ambition get to keep their best young players, but as you can probably count these on your fingers the best players

always get drawn into a sort of success/reputation vacuum and then just move about inside it.Man U,Chelsea,Man C,Real,Barca,Bayern, two Milan clubs,Juventus+ Arsenal (from time to time ) and that's about it.These clubs always have endless ambition fuelled by endless money.Real can buy a player for 80 million and pay it off with a year's sale of shirts bearing his name, media rights cover all the rest.No matter how broke or indebted they are these clubs always have money for other clubs "stars".

Bale Left wing

Walcott Right wing

Crouch in the middle

with lallana playing in the hole..

makes you sick

Yeah but West Ham could say Defoe in the middle, Carrick in the centre etc. The fact is if a player gets too good for our size of club they move on.

Made me smile to see him doing well. but the second thought was that of saggy chops benifiting from Bale's success!

I recently got given Bales Training jacket from his time with the youth team. Sat there last night telling the wife "thats the kid that had the saints jacket I got given" Even then she didnt seem impressed. lol

It's not just ambition, circumstance plays a great part. We clearly have great ambition now, but we're in L1 so don't have the power to keep hold of everyone. Likewise, if you produce someone truly exceptional, like Walcott, you can't keep them. We were aiming for promotion from the CCC when we sold him, but there was no choice.

Barca lost Fabregas and Pique, Real Madrid lost Eto'o, these things happen, wrong decisions occur, players don't get their chances, or clubs take the money, like Man Utd.

Real ambition??? you are deluded, if we had real ambition we wouldn't be 15th in League 1 and we'd have stopped tarting about with players like Lambert and Puncheon weeks ago if not before. We have a plan, whether we have the means to carry it out is something completely different.

The same as Bridgey, Crouch or Theo, I still love to see them do well and can't help but celebrate when they score.

His first was an absolute peach, Man Utd's replacement for Giggs without a doubt.

why would he go to under achieving, ambition lacking Man U? when he could be another member of the bloated squad of the sky blue side of Manchester earning twice as much.

We cashed in the sell-on clause before the start of the 2008/09 season, not when we were in administration. So no, we won't be getting any sell-on money. Looking on the bright side though, we got Tommy Forecast as part of that deal...

I don't think we did. I'm sure that we cashed in on the appearances clause. He was £10m sale with £5m up front and £5m of add ons based on appearances, international caps etc. I'd be confident we didn't cash in on a sell on clause - how would you quantify that in order to cash in?

On another matter, he does seem to have some very odd tatts on his legs

Hmm, that's interesting, could be looking at a lot of money next summer if we didn't

And for anyone who may have missed it, please join us in the Lounge at the world famous Cheats FC Takeover Saga thread, which is still going strongly, and where we are currently spitting blood that they could be cheating their way back to the PL.

just wrong!

20 odd good games for us, some average ones - million miles behind mlt in abilty/impact while in saints shirt.

Bale was a much better player than Matty was in the games I saw him in. Saw Matty a lot in the early years but Bale, at that age, bossed it from left-back.

Remember seeing his debut for the reserves at just 15... I put a report on Saintslist about the game and how impressed I was with him... I got his name wrong and called him Gareth Hall or something like that (didn't have a teamsheet), and got an email back from his Mum, offlist, correcting me and thanking me for my comments. Shame I never kept it!

Different postions, different types of player. Matty could do things with the ball Bale could only dream of on the other hand just how good would Matty have been with Bales energy levels and pace. Still think Matty was better though didn't Messi say that Matty was one of his heros?

Bale showed excellent promise, it was clear that he would make the very top, had some very good games, scored some good goals but had some poor games - particularly when the January transfer window speculation was happening.

Country mile behind Matt though.

He was also having to come straight in and play a full season in the championship, which I believe is too big an ask of players at that age.

B

Country mile behind Matt though.

Although he is now the proverbial rural kilometre in front because he wasn't content to just stay put and be adored by a handful of fans, he's gone out to prove himself on the European stage. This is my continual beef with Le Tissier he wasn't prepared to "be all you can be" as they say in the US military recruitment campaign ad.

Tottenham were 4-0 down with ten men and being slaughtered away to the European champions. If the game had gone on another 5 minutes and Bale had got a 4th it would have been IMHO the finest individual performance in the history of European football. Now Matt was a different era and a different type of player and he might well of been capable of that if he'd had the opportunity but you have to say that Bale is right up there.

Incidently we did once have a player capable of scoring 4 goals away at the European Champions but we were not 4 nil down and didn't have ten men at the time, and he did need a little bit of help from his wingers.
