NickG Posted 20 October, 2010 Posted 20 October, 2010 not that fussed if our 3rd choice lb goes out on loan for while.
doddisalegend Posted 21 October, 2010 Posted 21 October, 2010 not that fussed if our 3rd choice lb goes out on loan for while. I suppose the question is not should our third choice LB be going out on loan but who our 3rd choice LB should be?
Window Cleaner Posted 21 October, 2010 Posted 21 October, 2010 It Unless he gets injured its good news all around, he gets experience which may come in handy when he comes back in 4 weeks time. unless the loan gets extended of course. Isn't Chaplow here on the same sort of deal ?
Phil the Saint Posted 21 October, 2010 Posted 21 October, 2010 Dickson. Dickson is class hopefuly he will be 1st choice at left back soon.
NickG Posted 21 October, 2010 Posted 21 October, 2010 Dickson. from what I have seen would disagree, think Dickson, Harding fairly close - with Mills bit behind.
doddisalegend Posted 21 October, 2010 Posted 21 October, 2010 from what I have seen would disagree, think Dickson, Harding fairly close - with Mills bit behind. Fair enough. Personally think Dickson is better playing left midfield than left back as he likes to get forward but he ain't going to replace Adam any time soon, for me Mills proved himself last season playing at LB and playing well. Dicksons not done much of anything yet the odd nice cross but not much else.
NickG Posted 21 October, 2010 Posted 21 October, 2010 not seen as much of Dickson but like his energy etc, think Mills is more LM but who knows!
doddisalegend Posted 1 November, 2010 Posted 1 November, 2010 Seems like Mills is doing pretty well on loan at Donny, some of there fans want to sign him up permantly. Wonder how Dickison would get on in the champ. http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=184&fid=96&sty=2&act=1&mid=2119751075
silversaint Posted 1 November, 2010 Posted 1 November, 2010 Did he play against his brother on Saturday?
georgeweahscousin Posted 1 November, 2010 Posted 1 November, 2010 Yeah he played the whole game. It was his brother that scored though!
scotty Posted 1 November, 2010 Posted 1 November, 2010 The thread title could do with being clearer (it is a 1 month loan). so is Chaplow, but I'm still hoping we can keep him
Window Cleaner Posted 1 November, 2010 Posted 1 November, 2010 so is Chaplow, but I'm still hoping we can keep him so are the club
scotty Posted 1 November, 2010 Posted 1 November, 2010 so are the club apparently so, lets keep our fingers crossed.
ribbo Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 mills loan extended till mid january by the looks of it, he's well liked by all accounts. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/doncaster/9232116.stm
tartanowl Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 Bit of an odd one, another of our players not seemingly good enough for our L1 team is picked up by a club in a higher league... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2189857,00.html It is strange but he has been very popular there in his time. All the Doncaster fans I know rate him. We've done something similar yesterday with Marcus. He (rightly) hasn't been anywhere near the first team in recent weeks and has gone to Forest on loan. He hasn't been good enough for a long time now and most of our fans are not too bothered.

suewhistle Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 It's often just attitude or needing a new start. .. or angling for a move and not wanting to outright ask for it. I still suspect Andy Townsend of doing that with us: playing well and then all of a sudden couldn't give a ****.
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 I'm not suprised he's a good player can't understand why we bought Dickson in when we had Mills in the side. Because Dickson is the best Left back at the club, his last couple of games he has proven that.
eelpie Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 I wouldn't mind if we did a swap with Mills for Sharp (plus a few wedges). That would solve our Rickie goal famine problem. (Won't happen of course)
Thedelldays Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 I'm not suprised he's a good player can't understand why we bought Dickson in when we had Mills in the side. maybe dickson is better..?
ribbo Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 maybe dickson is better..? proven is more apt i think.
niceandfriendly Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 Because Dickson is the best Left back at the club, his last couple of games he has proven that. He's definitely impressed in the last two games. We'll have a right battle on for the left back slot when Harding is fit and back to his best.
Window Cleaner Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 proven is more apt i think. I would have thought Fish had given all the proof he needed to when he was on loan at S****horpe for 2/3 months 2 seasons ago. S****horpe managed by who oh yes Adkins. Our selection policy is strange sometimes.

We have Harding and Dickson after all.

S****horpe managed by who oh yes Adkins. Our selection policy is strange sometimes. Mills is a decent player and probably will be a decent player for a little while, Dickson i think can easily make the step up and still impress in the NPC. I don't think Mills is as good as Dickson and in my eyes does not possess the same energy as Dickson brings to the team, which on top of that he seems a competent defender and has a wicked cross on him. The fact that Adkins managed him at Scunny for me only means that he is the best possible person to make an assessment on his ability compared to Harding and Dickson. If it were me, and we signed perhaps another winger i would allow Mills to move on, he has served the club, we have paid his wages, let him go and get competetive football, perhaps with a sell on clause just in case he reaches a decent level.
doddisalegend Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 Because Dickson is the best Left back at the club, his last couple of games he has proven that. It's all opinions. Personally from what I've seen of Dickson he is very average, Harding is a much better left back. Mean while Mills has proved he can play in a league higher quite comfortably something Dickson hasn't so I would suggest Mills was perfectly good for us.

Mills is of course the younger man by 3 years, Championship experience to boot.Perhaps NA thinks there's a minimum age to play in a defensive role in his side. That would explain why Martin has been pushed aside as well. It's just a hypothesis mind you.
Thedelldays Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 both pardew and adkins have over looked mills here at saints... just because mills went to donny does not mean he is better than harding/dickson.. puncheon went to a top half NPC team....does that mean he is better than lallana...?

Pardew didn't overlook Mills he used him as cover for Harding and Mills was very succsessful in that role last season. Which is why when we needed more cover for midfield and another striker during pre-season getting in another leftback on top of the two good ones we had already made very little sense to me. As for the Lallana/Puncheon thing Adam has already played at championship level so that arguement is a bit moot.

doddisalegend Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 and then pardew bought dickson...??? right...? also..you do realise that dickson has played at championship level too.....with plymouth...yeah..? yes five apperances for them in 3 years. Mills has managed 4 with donny in 5 weeks says a lot, Mills has also managed under 18 england caps something Dickson hasn't. Like I said it's all opinions but for me Mills and Harding where two good left backs. I'd much rather we had an extra (fit) striker on our books right now than three leftbacks so we could loan one out to a team in a league above us.
NickG Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 Dickson is a better LB than Mills. As is Harding. I have never heard that we decided against signing any further wingers as we had already signed a LB?!
NickG Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 but mills probably best of them as attacking LM - and is very good prospect

How many strikers did we sign in the summer even though many of us were saying we needed one? or extra cover in midfield?(Guly prehaps but he's niether a striker or a combatitive mid-fielder that we needed, thank god for Caplow on loan) How many thought we needed to sign an extra leftback in the summer? Right back sure that was a postion we were desperate in. At left back we had a very good one in Harding (second only to Lambert in last seasons player of the season vote) and good cover in Mills. A third leftback wasn't nearly as needed as an extra striker or more cover for midfield. Personally I haven't seen anything from Dickson to make me think he is anything special but each to their own. sadoldgit Posted 26 November, 2010 Posted 26 November, 2010 One by one our players are getting promoted. Novel way of doing it. LOL. it was like the guy in Colditz who had an number of amputations. After a while the Germans twigged that he was trying to escape bit by bit!

st alex Posted 16 January, 2011 Posted 16 January, 2011 Loan should finish this week, (on the 19th). http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/doncaster/9232116.stm Anyone know whether Doncaster are likely to sign him permanently? Would be interesting if he comes back and joins Dickson & Harding's fight for the left back spot.

JHsaintsfan Posted 16 January, 2011 Posted 16 January, 2011 I work near doncaster and their fans are very keen to keep him
Chez Posted 16 January, 2011 Posted 16 January, 2011 I know quite a few Donny ST holders and every time I speak to them they say our two left backs must be bloody top class if we afford to allow Mills out on loan. They'd take him like a shot, but transfer funds are in short supply. How long is his contract with us? I think we should loan him till the end of the season and then reap the benefits. Come the sumer Harding might want a move if Dickson has become the number 1.
hypochondriac Posted 16 January, 2011 Posted 16 January, 2011 Dickson was awful yesterday. Mills might be worth giving a go.
The Godfather Posted 16 January, 2011 Posted 16 January, 2011 Dickson was awful yesterday. Mills might be worth giving a go. Both full backs were awful as were the team. Dickson & richardson both were guilty of poor delivery on constant basis.
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 January, 2011 Posted 16 January, 2011 Dickson was awful yesterday. Mills might be worth giving a go. You can't drop a player for one bad game surely
sammysaint Posted 17 January, 2011 Posted 17 January, 2011 mills should be 2nd choice this loan will give him playing time and some more experince in the championship then he can play for us next season
hypochondriac Posted 17 January, 2011 Posted 17 January, 2011 Both full backs were awful as were the team. Dickson & richardson both were guilty of poor delivery on constant basis. Richardson and Dickson stood out ad particularly bad
saintbletch Posted 17 January, 2011 Posted 17 January, 2011 Richardson and Dickson stood out ad particularly bad They hardly got forward at all. But aren't you just commenting on how effectively Notts County stifled us and kept our LB and RB busy defending? I didn't think they had a poorer game than most of our team. And as I say I put that down to Notts County's attitude to the game.
