Whitey Grandad Posted 18 October, 2010 Share Posted 18 October, 2010 Either is worth a weekend, and we've done both. I've twice done done Bruges in a day trip, one of them via Enfield when I took my dad. Bruges is a lovely place but there's probably more to do in Brussels. There's the Atomium, Grande Place Mannekin Pis, a comic-strip 'cartoon' museum. Rue des Bouchers is good for the restaurants, there's a good fish one up there. Its not New York, London, Paris, Barcelona or Berlin - but its got some good bars and restaurants. Its alright if you've been to the other places first, plus its close. moonraker Posted 18 October, 2010 Share Posted 18 October, 2010 I am a regular vistor to Brussesl (Business) and it can be very good tough you need to plan your trip, as to eateries these are 2 of my favourites http://www.restaurantvincent.com/ great steaks and http://www.rugbymantwo.com/ great lobster, neither is particularly cheap. Also in the Grand Place bottom left corner oposite the Hotel de Ville is a bar that does a belgium beer smapler tray (other bars also do this) good way to get a taste for the huge range of beer on offer. Whitey Grandad Posted 18 October, 2010 Share Posted 18 October, 2010 Ghent is also worth a visit. There's the 'bicycle bar': This looks like a useful site: http://mengodrinking.co.uk/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=24&MMN_position=31:
dune Posted 18 October, 2010 Share Posted 18 October, 2010 I used fancy going to Amsterdam, but it was always the opinion of friends and myself that the drugs were better here so never bothered. Been to Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool. Middlesbrough, Stafford, London, Brum, southampton, Bournemouth, Reading etc etc on the **** and to be honest I always found what would be considered the town that's the biggest ****hole to be the best nights out. A certain night out in Mcr after footie and a certain gloopy mixture i'd make earlier (m.mushrooms were legal then) and I have never in my life been so utterly ****ed up. One of the best nights ever. San Antonio - Ibiza the best place i've ever been to abroad. If you're young you must do holidays like that.

dune Posted 18 October, 2010 Share Posted 18 October, 2010 Heard Lille is good, can get there on Eurostar. Never been mind Is Mrs Boj frog speaking or Flemish? You may be wondering howI know she's belgian. Well it's a very long story, and we could discuss it for hours, but this info came like a bolt from the blue and even now i'm struggling to piece tother thiis tangled web of intrigue, with the answer always a google , but ignore the feelings of the question, as is so often the case, and you leave it feeling unwanted and just a question with no other recognition or gratitude, oh **** no Answer gets all the thanks however neith Question nor the smug little cvnt answer can say a word. Really fcking ace to put Answer in his play and then, and maybe give Question a little cup of tea (he's a bi quiet when he's cos of bulling of question) but despite of everything thje source pof the revelation was maybe in the old testament of if not the new testament. Both books ontain magic spells and if you like the pages they are laced with LSD which really brings the sory of jesus (na na, Jesus is the brat) for get Jesus and let's talkabour Joseph was wasn't a shepherd, he was a gypsy from Side and even by Turkish stands he was a scabby and dirty and his pants smelt of diahorea despite his ***** cleaning them. One day punched her in the face really hard and she soon learnt her lesson, that woman are put on earth to serve men, and so t was this downtrodden dirty wench get me thinking about christmas pantomines, and this year with the help of question and answer we'd planned to do Frog and his Froggy Friends and the Belgian mandolin, but we needed someone Englsih, the sort who wouldn't sack his mates, or ever miss an opportunity to tell a rib tickler, and who has that look thatb makes ya think ive seen that really trendy goatee b4. It works a ****ing dream and Boj has us all in stitches - there was this one time when all the mods were offline at the same time, omfg, it was a right rumble, but this geezer called Stanley I thought was really interesting and he showed interest in me - which activated defence barriers against any non programable characteristics, but then I just said to Boj, you a missus, and he said yeah she's belgian. bridge too far Posted 18 October, 2010 Share Posted 18 October, 2010 I've not been to Brussels but we did go to Bruges a couple of years ago - and by Eurostar. Lots of interesting stuff - diamond museum, chocolates galore, canal trip. We stayed in a lovely old hotel called Ter Brughe next to a canal. The most romantic room I've ever stayed in. Good restaurants around the main square with lots of outdoor seating, even at this time of year.

Having been to both many times, I would say (as someone else has above) Brugges = romantic, Brussels = Beer

angelman Posted 28 October, 2010 Share Posted 28 October, 2010 Took the Mrs to Bruges (aka Venice of the North) for a w/end. Lovely place, expensive, and easy to get to. What you can apparently do (not sure how long it takes) is go by canal from Bruges to Amsterdam. Went to Brussels last year for the day. Dirty, graffiti everywhere, and pretty much like every other big town.

dubai_phil Posted 28 October, 2010 Share Posted 28 October, 2010 I liked Bruges, it is a chillaxing place I enjoyed a couple of days there. For something more happening I'd go to Munich, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Prague, Budapest, Ibiza, hell even Blandford or Sturminster Newton on a wet Sunday evening, but not really Brussels Ghent has memories - we stopped there on the way to play Anderlecht in the Cup Winners Cup in '77. No idea what the memories were as we were shredded and didn't sleep for 3 days. I do remember the most appalling stench as some truck emptied the sewers that caused most of the coach to vomit. (Or was that the beer)
