I'm not necessarily disputing your opinion, I'm just conscious that, while nothing can be proved either way, there is also the possibility that Pardew named a number of targets he wanted to bring in but was rebutted by the transfer committee/Cortese. While you say the Guly 5 minute cameo was a 2 fingered salute to Cortese, I see Guly's signing as just that to Pardew; AP had spent the summer decrying the need for a new CM, direct repllacement for Antonio; and backup for Lambert. Guly is essentially none of those 3.

Do you know what was going on behind the scences at the club? None of us really have a clue why we didn't sign the players we all thought we needed was it AP not bothering? NC refusing to sanction any more? no more money in the kitty. Maybe the players we wanted just weren't there for the price we wanted? Of course if your ITK share it.

 

For what it's worth and it's just speculation I think ML and NC had a budget to go with the five year plan we spent most of last summers budget last january in an attempt to gain promotion a bit earlier than planned, it didn't work but the money was already spent so they kept spending low in the summer to stick to the budget they had set figuring the team was pretty solid.

I think you're just being deliberately obtuse now. Calm down and re-read my post properly. I said there is a POSSIBILITY that Pardew named a number of targets. Given that there is no evidence either way, it's equally as likely as your assertion that he sat around with his feet up all summer.

 

I fully expect Adkins to be given money to spend in January; we've filled one gap from the summer (CM cover) with the loan signing of Chaplow, and hopefully will make that one permanent. But we are still very short up front. The RM slot may be filled by Chamberlain, though I expect Adkins to be in for 2 or 3 players in the window. We'll see.

No-one knows exactly the rationale but if we were quoted £1M for Antonio then turning it down when we knew that we had Alex Chamberlain waiting in the wings to fulfil a similar subs role was a good call.

I don't believe that we are short of goalscorers, just goalscorers in form. Who was to know that RL couldn't recapture his form from last season immediately this year? Players form bears no direct relationship to the clubs transfer policy.

 

We are 4 points off the top 6 and 7 points off the top 2. No reason why we can't make that up if we can score an average of 2 points per game over the next 10 games or so.

Sky is reporting that Bignall has just signed a new contract with Reading. Doesn't change anything, I know, as he is only on loan, but odd that he should choose to re-sign for Reading mid-loan.

We have missed Papa and Antonio this year. Last year they provided a pacy and direct plan B in games where we found it hard to break down the oppo. Failure to sign them both was a misjudgement IMO.

Because he was in competition to pappa, cortese would have nothing to do with it,and this was the first signs of the rift that turned into the chasm,culminating in cortese walking out at wycombe when antonio was chosen over pappa.cortese believed all pappas b/s over all the staff and managers opinions.

Absolutely. We are short of strikers in scoring form. I still think that we'll score goals though, with Lallana, Guly, Puncheon contributing. Bignall has to be viewed as this season's Antonio so let's give him the same chance that MA had. Also, one has to believe that RL and LB will get their form back at some point soon. They have consistently scored at this level in the past and there is no reason why they should stop completely now.

It matters not now what Pardew did or did not do

 

The reality is that players were NOT replaced in the close season, and trying to patch it up now with Loans is NOT condusive to a balanced Squad

thanks for that, when i see a friend i will ask him about this. He is no longer at the club but was very much in the know and with the squad and so will be able to verify what you say.

I don't think he's participated in any Serie A games at all as yet, anyway Fiorentina are bottom with 5 points from 7 games.
