Red Ed at PMQ's

As pointed out previously on another thread, he still got a higher percentage of Labour MPs voting for him than DC got of the Tory members in his party leadership poll, in fact he got 122 votes from the 262 MPs & MEPs. And I am not sure the ONLY reason he got in was the union vote, as they only represent 33% of the possible total. Before you go off on one of your evening rants, try appraising yourself of the facts, ( for a change ).

But wasn't David winning the contest at the various stages (i think i'm right in saying the eletion was carried out with some sort of wacky Liberesque AV system) but then lost because of the Unions? I have no wish to engage too deeply in Socialist procedures so let's just agree that he would never have become leader with the votes from party members and MP's - it was the Unions that got their man.

You don't win 'at various stages' in the leadership election. You win or lose. But this is pointless, because you're content to throw out some wild inaccuracy and then profess no interest whatever in whether it's right or not. But back on topic, Ed, David, Ed Balls, or anyone of the leadership candidates would have made Cameron look like the lying slimeball he is. So the real tests for Ed have yet to come. As easily as he won it, this wasn't it.

Watching the lefties on this thread pit their wits against June got me thinking.

When anyone from the centre right criticises the Blair or Brown governments, the lefties on here are quick to distance themselves from New Labour with cries of "they weren't socialist". Now when anyone criticises Red MilliBLAND, they are all rushing to his defence.

So can I take it that the New Old labour party is now socialist?

This confuses me as not much has changed (OK, the new leader is better than the last because let's face it, Brown was ****), but some of the war mongerours are in the shadow cabinet and they haven't renamed themselves "New Old Labour".

If we take it that the socialists now support the New Old Labour party, can they associate themselves with a leader who showed more concern for the middle classes yesterday, than he did for the working man?

Just interested as I think it is a bit odd.

Spot on. Whatever your views of Tony Blair he was an astute politician and could play a crowd. Red Ed may well have his MP's enthralled (obviously they secretly recognise he's a geek and liability - hence them wanting his brother), and the political commentators may well have thought what he said was well said, but the problem is that he's got no personality at all so he'll never be able to come accross as jovial or tell a joke that doesn't make him look an even bigger div than he clearly is - in this day and age that means he's not up for the job and he won't get the votes. We have a lot to thank Bob Crow and his comrades for.

Based on today, Cameron can equally make himself look like a divy.

Either way, for his first PMQs, he did well and that is that. We can re-evaluate his performances etc at a later date.

No that isn't that. I find it really amusing how you can come to the conclusion that he did well, because like others have said "image is everything" and the image I got from Red Ed was of a geek that tried his best but ultimately came accross as a geek. He reminded me of a George Osborne type - yeah he might be a clever bloke, but he's no leader and therefore he's not prime ministerial material.

I dont think thats what labour have in mind. Come election time he will be out the door before the traps open to make way for somebody who has a chance at it, at the moment they dont have anybody credible. In the meantime he is just a make-weight.
