Have a whole mixture of emotions. Pardew came in as a saviour figure who did well but not quite, the style was a little rough and ready at times but we mostly got results. Didn't get going in the summer this year, bit like last summer but we all blamed his late appointment and the takeover shenanigans.

Atkins has come in on a sea of underwhelment but has us playing a much more attractive style of football. Has been very fortunate to have Lallana come back firing on all cylinders as his presence has transformed the dynamics of the team. Lambert looks to have confidence again, Guly and Chaplow being used to good effect also.

For me the jury is still out on Atkins but initial signs are good. Not too upset that Pardew has gone as I don't think he fulfilled his high billing. As I said our expectations on Atkins are probably not as high so he will do well if he can continue Pardews work, if he does it with more attractive football and surpasses Pardews level then he can be a hero to Saints fans IMHO!

Who cares about Pardew now? He's gone - get over it! I'm so bored of seeing pointless threads on this forum, why can't people look to the future? This is a prime example as to why Saintsweb forum has gone drastically down hill over the last 3 months - What's next - we have already had the "What good things did Lowe do" thread, Why don't we start a "Branfoot was a football genius" thread or maybe "What if we kept all our players over the last 10 years where would we be"?

It's all history now can we please look to the future, get behind Adkins and the team and forget about what has happend in the past.

End of Rant

Surely a big part of a football club is it's history? It's going to be hard to discuss nexts saturdays game on sunday if we are only allowed to discuss the future.

The big thing for me in the difference between NA and Pardew is Adkins unadulterated enthusiasm for the job. You can tell from the very moment he " walked in the building" (to nick one of he phrases!) that he has landed his "dream job" (not that he dreamt about managing Saints persee) in the terms of a fairly big team, great stadium, great training facilities, and financial backing. As well as that feeling he will have it is also his first real opportunity at achieving unlimited success. In theory (although unlikely) Saints could win the Champions League or even the Premiership with the money we potentially have. It's almost like he has a credit card with unlimited funds to do exactly what he wants. In comparison he'd maxed out the three 5k cards he had!!

Pardew and many of the other "journeyman" managers are not always fresh when they walk unto a new job. Almost always tainted by their previous failure (otherwise they are unlikely to be available!!) and probably more motivated by continuous employment to pay the bills than the excitement of the job. Pardew particularly this year seemed to be just " going through the motions" and for whatever reason that maybhave been the case we now have someone who I suspect would have taken this job on a "commission only" basis. I doubt anyone else would have, least of all Pardew!!

I'm glad Pardew was here but I'm extremely happy we now have Adkins. He has the enthusiasm of youth with the head of a pro.

Wow westie you really are a top class internet warrior. Just for your sake I've now added a disclaimer to my location so hopefully when ever I post you'll know it's just my opinion and you won't burst a blood vessel.

I'm glad the message has finally sank in. But don't flatter yourself that I'm that bothered by what you post that you would raise my blood pressure by even one point. As for the location thing, do grow up.

Happy with Adkins... Was happy with Pardew...

I for will always be grateful to Pardew for a great day out at Wembley and for restoring the pride in this club....

I won't be joining in the "Slag off Pardew for thing we don't know are true or not" brigade...

100% agree, you took the words out of my mouth ;)

I don't know what happened to Pardew in the close season, but no one looked like they gave a rat's arse when the came back, unbelieveable! I would have expected Pardew to make the play off's this season, possibly an automatic. I expect Adkins to make it automatic going by the progress we have made, could not be happier. Adkins looks the real deal, Pardew just a possible.

I think this paragraph absolutely sums up my frustrations at our start to this season. It wasn't that the players looked grossly unfit; of course there were a few players who weren't up to scratch but it's not as if we had a team of lumbering fatties. It's just that we didn't seem to have any players who looked like they wanted to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and give it a relly good go. The Plymouth game on opening day was symptomatic of our malaise at the time; we battered them for long spells without putting the ball in the net, right up to the point when they went and scored, at which point we just let the game drift to its final conclusion. It was if no-one had the ability, on the pitch or off it, to get motivation levels going.

The Brizzle game looked like it could have given the squad the confidence push they needed, but then the dismissal of Pardew and appointment of Wilkins pushed us even further into the mire.

What Adkins seems to have done is get our leaders on the pitch playing like such again. Fonte was a shadow of himself in early games, he's again looking like the class act we know he is. Hammond was utterly dire in early season but again is starting to like a skipper. And Lambert on Saturday was much, much more like his old self where before he had looked utterly bereft of confidence and belief.

The difference between the performances at the back end of last year and the start of this season were unforgivable. And they can't (as was tried at the time) solely be blamed on the departures of Waigo and Antonio, we had so many players that were under par right from the off. Thankfully NA seems to be rectifying that, and my confidence levels in this are back to where they were at the start of the season.
