buctootim Posted 12 October, 2010 Share Posted 12 October, 2010 I climbed a volcano last week (climbed as went in car, cable car and jeep, not as in actually going to any effort), Etna in Sicily, most active volcano in the world. I touched some hot rocks.

dune Posted 13 October, 2010 Share Posted 13 October, 2010 (edited) I went up Mount Teide in Tenerife in a cable car. Found the whole experience pretty boring as you had to walk up the hill to get to the top and even then they wouldn't let you climb up the ashy bit. Driving through the old Caldera was pretty cool though and gave you an idea of how massive the old volcano would've been. SNSUN Posted 13 October, 2010 Share Posted 13 October, 2010 I went up Mount Teide in Tenerife in a cable car. Found the whole experience pretty boring as you had to walk up the hill to get to the top and even then they wouldn't let you climb up the ashy bit. Driving through the old Caldera was pretty cool though and gave you an idea of how massive the old volcano would've been. When I was 18 I went to Mount Teide as part of a coach trip. My lasting memory of the event is stopping for a break, wandering off, and chasing after the coach as it was about to leave. People that climb Volcanos are crazy. As experienced and safe as they may be, there's no telling when nature will bite you on the arse. As with Steve Irwin (God rest his entertaining soul), in a dangerous job, you know that you're going to die, you just don't know when!
BadgerBadger Posted 13 October, 2010 Share Posted 13 October, 2010 One of my 'must do before I die' list is to visit a erupting volcanoe, although not quite as close as that
