buctootim Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 This guy narrowly escaped 150 days in jail for hosing down his 8 year old son for peeing and pooing in the house. What the guy did is clearly over the top, but so is the reaction to it imo. My 7 year old son used to to regularly, until recently wet and poo himself, even when sitting on the sofa 15 feet away from the toilet - bright boy - no special needs. His mum said we shouldnt get cross with him and that had zero effect. The shame of me putting him back in nappies had a rapid transformation. Whats the line between abuse and necessary discipline? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-11524155
BigShadow Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 There must be more to this story - the article states the child has now been taken into local authority care. Well if that's all it takes to get a child put into care then my kids should probably have been taken off me a long time ago. This is not a case of a child having an accident - he opened a drawer and took a dump. Assuming the child is not somehow mentally disadvantaged, then the hose pipe treatment seems reasonable to me (although hitting him with it is not). Just seems everyone is quick to complain that kids have no discipline, and then equally quick to condemn parents who show a little invention in their discipline methods. Time outs and 1-2-3's don't work for ALL kids in the long term.
buctootim Posted 12 October, 2010 Author Posted 12 October, 2010 Maybe there is more 'history' to this incident. In general though having kids who love their dad unconditionally, but retain a small degree of fear of the consequences of bad behaviour is no bad thing imo.
Chin Strain Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 What an idiot. WTF was he doing it in the front garden for?
