some tough decisions to be made. stay inside and get beer or go outside and take **** out of visiting fans?

actually a good move by the club and not least as it gives the barstaff a bit of much needed OT in these troubled times. btw anyone know if we are allowed to tip bar staff at SMS?

are they going to be bringing some sofa's in or do we have to stand in a concrete hall way for hours on end?

I guess the one in the Itchen is a bit plusher than the Kingsland/Northam

Could be really good as long as not too many idiots go.

The main problems will be:

The consumption of foul smelling food;

Badly dressed people;

People who are not quite developed enough to interact with others in a nice, charming and well-mannered way;

The austere surroundings; and

The poor beer.

Having said that, 5 minutes with Paul Wotton would clearly make it all worthwhile!

Wow, our board really has got a sense of humour. I can imagine the meeting now, "what would be a really good PR exercise right now." "I know, lets get a load of people drinking with Lee Barnard after a match." "Perfect!" :lol: In all seriousness though, I like it. Shame I can't get to a home match for about a month. :(

and from the OS "What's more, we'll be throwing in some incredible drinks promotions to supplement your post match get together, as well as a special prize draw of Saints items that you won't want to miss!"

Yeah, like bottles of lager, BOGOF.

Like the idea of this. Sounds very good indeed and will be even better when they finally far cough Carlsberg. Unfortunatly for me I am away for 2 weeks as of end of next week so it's gonna be a fair old while before I get the chance to sample it. I should only miss the Oldham game though, which funnily enough was the only home game I missed last season aswell. I am though missing 2 away days I was very much looking forward to.

Good idea as long as they have enough staff on to ensure very quick service. Obviously plenty available from other areas.

Also minimises the "downtime" between pints after the game! The downside is the choice of pint!!

Posted

Rather go back to the pub and have a decent pint instead of the p1sswater they serve up at St Marys.

Isn't this pretty much the same thing as used to happen in the Dell supporters club though, just with crap beer and no seats.

I for one like the bit about getting to meet the players and hear their post match interviews.. But I am quite sad when it comes to celebrity it has to be said.....

Wonder if the papers will be allowed to watch the player interviews and use the info they hear.....

bet you cant wait for this weeks OK to come out, you can find out all about Russell Brand, Kerry Katona and how much David Beckham pays for a sandwich.

+1. Improve the beer on offer and it becomes a great idea, until then no. What's the chances of Peroni on tap Nicola?

I dont tend to go to the pub after games so it will be a welcome extension to the proceedings. The only downside is that I go to all games on my own (I know, loner, saddo etc etc) so i may feel like a plank stood drinking beer on my own in the concourse :o)

post match drinking was never a big thing in the 70's/80's everyone would be eager to chase the away fans down Hill Lane, get bus home ready to go out on Saturday night.Reading the football Echo first

One of the main reasons of course being that pubs didn't re open until 1800 at the earliest so you had to make your own post match entertainment in those days :rolleyes:

Negotiating Hill Lane and So'ton Central was taxing on most Saturday evenings for those who travelled by train. Lots of various shenanigans with Brum, Villa and most London clubs.

We even encountered Forrest at our local chippy in Eastleigh one year.

Heady days indeed.

Was quite good. Cortese, Fonte and Adkins all came down for interviews and pictures with fans.

Only down side was that they couldn't serve alcohol before 6pm but were doing some survey so they can apply for a licence to do so.

Apparently next time they want to make the bottles of Magners 3 for £6 which is decent.

All in all, better than a pub.

It's a nice idea and I'd be tempted if there was a decent choice of beer. As it stands, I'd rather walk to somewhere that sells a pint of ale than force down a John Smith's. Bring on the Ringwood and I'll do it.

I'd hate to be on the Saints side of this idea after a really bad home performance. Rounding up fans into a small space after a bad performance and fuelling them with alcohol is enough to scare the crap out of any player.

Great to see new ideas though, it shows at least that people are thinking about more than football.

Maybe a good incentive to make sure we don't lose at home ever again!!

Cortese playing Roman Emperor and sending his slaves to the lions :scared:

Couple this idea with the current discussion of Barnards temperament level and that could end up getting tasty ;)

Are you sure that wasn't just a continuation of the normal poor slow service :rolleyes:

Over an hour waiting for a drink to be allowed to be served and then add on the normal poor slow service ... cripes last orders beckons before the 1st round has been poured!!

Joking aside .... I agree it sounds like a great idea, but will it have a knock back effect on the lucrative Corporate Packages? Will the wined and dined people feel a bit peeved to hear that their guest speaker is somewhat delayed as he is getting p!ssed up with the real fans down in the concourse who are all insisting on buying him a beer and having their photo taken?

No beer before 6:00 what a bloody farce.

My train goes at 6:10 and because of the waste of time getting into the fiasco I missed it.

Still, not all bad cos Old Thumper at £2.10 instead was well worth it

I love the idea of players having a beer with the fans after a game - just like the good old days of the ale house brawlers (God bless them!)

What did Cortese say?

Basically that he had hoped he could have got three new players in in the summer transfer window but it didn't happen. The money was there then and still is for those new players so it will be available in January... That brought on lots of applause :)

Didn't say a lot else (or maybe that last bit stuck out too much)

Adkins was less repetitive and used less cliches when in front of a crowd, which was nice.

Simple as that.

I think you mean Dave. Stuey was banned, I think, so he couldn't have been there, could he?

I also remember that he swore that he never, ever, went to Southampton, especially St. Mary's, so it was absolutely impossible for him to get a ticket without paying the extra on-line booking fee. So I think you, and Nic, can rest assured that he wasn't there.
