Bucks Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Humble request for my benefit as I did not make the game on Saturday. I have read the reviews and reaction which all rave about Guly. Sounds like he has the potential to be a real favourite. From what I have read, he sounds like he may have just a little bit of Berkovic, Fernandes or even Ekelund about him (at a lesser level clearly) but I may well be jumping to optimistic conclusions based on the glowing reports. Which past Saint does he remind you of please? Thanks
Brussels Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 From the reports so far, I would guess a bit more like Viafara with touch so actually not like Viafara at all........... not one of my best posts this one!
Saint_clark Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Same style of play as Drogba from what I could see.
Katalinic Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 (edited) Delgado with more pace, better touch, no dodgy knees and not precious about us remembering his birthday. Edited 11 October, 2010 by Katalinic
Colinjb Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 The bastard love child of Ulrich van Gobbel and Djamel Belmadi
Bucks Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Author Posted 11 October, 2010 The bastard love child of Ulrich van Gobbel and Djamel Belmadi scary
Burnsie Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 just like Lee Todd except quite different in most ways
sainttomski Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 He has something of the Wanchope about him
Bucks Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Author Posted 11 October, 2010 (edited) Rivaldo I may have been hammered at some matches in the past but I am pretty sure I would have noticed if he played for us. Edited 11 October, 2010 by Bucks Saint
John Smith Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I may have been hammered at some matches in the past but I am prrety sure I would have noticed if he played for us. Reminds me of, not plays like. It's those shoulders
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 He really was good on Saturday. He has a lot of pace, which we've been missing, so in that respect Antonio I guess, the touch and ball control of Lallana, the vision of Morgan and the work rate of Barnard. I'm obviously not saying he is as good as all these players put together but he definitely brought a lot to the team. I actually think the comment above comparing him to Drogba isn't far off. Obviously they are miles apart in their overall ability but his style of play was similar- quick, strong and explosive.
Lighthouse Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Something about his appearance reminds me of Carlton Palmer (other than being a lanky black guy). Might be his running style.

Chin Strain Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 just like Lee Todd except quite different in most ways Yeah...one being that he went towards the ball as opposed to running away scared
Saintandy666 Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Fernandes. Brilliant at times when he has a good game or gets it right, but frustrating too. Skillful. Could be wrong, time will tell. He is good though.

Should answer your question...!
simo Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Thing kenwyne with a touch of big Ron thrown in for good measure ;-)
LVSaint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Toxteth O'Grady U.S.A World's stickiest goolie?
sandwichsaint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Is he a kind of a cross between an Osgood and a Channon? The brains and touch of an Ossie and the legs and firepower of a Channon? A Chagood if you will, sounds tasty!

up and away Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 But he was a poor signing because he was a risk wasn't he? And proved conclusively to be **** after one game? We aren't saying this forum is full of illogical reactionary morons are we? Actually to be fair over praising would be silly too. He looks potentially to be above league 1 level and a great signing, but consistency and cold tuesday nights at **** grounds are key. I'm sure Adkins will get the best out of him anyway. Anyone who has had the misfortune to watch Brazilian league football would recognise the type immediately. For a forward he is persistent, skillful and not worried about getting in there. If you go back through the years and all those teams that came and parked the bus in front of goal, Guly looks better than anything for this league and that problem. He could easily go on to be far better but I would hold back to get a decent marker other than Tranmere. Definitely not too lightweight for this league, but on a cold, rainy night in Hartlepool may have him wondering what the fook he is doing here.
Nutwood2 Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Knew he was class as soon as he came on at Bristol Rovers. Two overhit passes straight away, but great awareness , great movement and great first touch. Mario Kempes.
Stud mark of doom Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 He reminded me of a young Ferenc Puskas. Slightly better in the air tho. He really came of age on Saturday. All credit for Adkin's for Guly's dropping earlier in the season.
Badger Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 A skilful George Lawrence? Especially when he ballooned that shot over the bar v Bournemouth.

Because they always play at home in lovely warm weather in Brazil. For what its worth he reminds me of a butch black Lienal Blair.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 He's a Papa Waigo with full knowledge of the offside rule. And better.
thesaint78 Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Guly is valued at £2.1m by FIFA 11, then again they value Anthony Pulis at £1.2m...
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Guly is valued at £2.1m by FIFA 11, then again they value Anthony Pulis at £1.2m... I think the Saints researcher person must have known the first thing anyone would do is sell Pulis! I managed to get 1.4million for him!
Ashley Grute Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Defo Wanchope IMO- quite unpredictable at times
OldNick Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 after the Yeovil game I posted that i thought he was like Vierra. (I did qualify that I didn't think he would be that good) If he settles in we have another hero in the making. I didn't see him saturday
The9 Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Saintsweb, the home of tired footballing cliches. Blah blah wet night in Rochdale, FFS. Have any of you seen the empty grounds second tier Italian sides often play in front of, or the monsoon-like weather they get there ?
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 He reminds me of Pat Evans off eastenders, except he's not fat, his hairs not white, he's brazilian, and is black.
rudi-skacel Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 according to paper talk on sky sports website,if we want guly permanentlyit will cost us 800,000
opthomps Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Do you think he will be in the starting 11 for most of the season then? Bearing in mind We have Lambert and Barnard that were the first choice till last week. Was his performance that good?
Big John Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Guly is valued at £2.1m by FIFA 11, then again they value Anthony Pulis at £1.2m... obviously hasn;t been updated since he scored that cracker at the weekend.
rolosfc Posted 13 October, 2010 Posted 13 October, 2010 A bit like a mix of Graham Potter and Kleber Chala with Paul Williams pace?
