If I read the small print on the TV correctly, when you agree to the contract you sign away any right to excess electricity you generate which can be sold to the national grid

I think that's right yes. You get free electricity and Amy that you don't use gets put in the pot for general use by others.

Sounds a win win??

money saving expert guy has been going on about this, sound good to me, depends on your roof though

Have just been reading money saving expert site and the comments are great.

If we are eligible (lordswood) I will seriously consider it - or should I say I'll ask the mrs and if she likes the idea we will consider it!

There's no catch to this, plenty of companies doing it.

I read an article the other day though, if you get a say 20K loan over x years (can't remember how many) @ 7% you'd be better off taking that approach. The system would pay for itself and the loan over 20 years.

The 20K loan is a stumbling block for most people, but is the better option.

I have signed up because I couldn't be bothered to go through the process of getting a loan, choosing which system to install, installing it, servicing it etc etc. I am never going to put up these things for a 15-20 year pay off, but think that the compromise is acceptable, where I get cheaper electricity and they can get the rest. It depends on looks and how much electricity is paid for.

has anyone considered the detrimental effect the look of this makes to the value of you house, the cost of repair if you have to remove it to get at any tiles of roof repairs needed?

The company will remove the panels twice free of charge for you for any repairs you need to do.

Regarding the look and resale-ability of the house, I reckon that if its a straight choice between a house with and one without a buyer would go for the one WITH the panels.

I suggest that it is a way of getting in your door.Once you have in your mind bought in they may be able to sell you a kit as your roof 'may not qualify'

I would check with the environment people that there are indeed grants still availibkle as I tried to get one for something but the money had been withdrawn/spent up.

I hope it is easy and straightforward

Our drinking buddy in Salisbury got all this done while the grants existed and is having it installed in the next week or so. Will find out how it goes
