Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Is anyone else getting worried about the fact that his contract runs out at the end of this season. Come on NC, get him signed up for longer.

trousers Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Is anyone else getting worried about the fact that his contract runs out at the end of this season. Yes. Was worried months ago when raising this very subject.
Saint_clark Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Amazed the interviewers haven't asked him about it.
benjii Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I hope he stays because he's a great player who can score nice goals but I would understand if he wants to play in the Premier League but maybe he would want to stay with us if he thinks we're going to get promoted but we will see! :smug:
Toadhall Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 http://www.tribalfootball.com/southampton-youngster-lallana-tracked-tottenham-1173891 Wouldn't surprise me Ron & these things will keep appearing (and momentum will grow) until we sign him up for another 18 months.
Bucks Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I am not worried. No way that NC will let his contract expire. He may be tempted to move on if we are nowhere this season, but we will get big bucks. Personally I think he will be with us next year

MarkSFC Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I suspect some arrangement will be made based on Saints getting promotion this season in which case another 2 years maybe with other caveats in regard to Prem and if we fail to go upethos season he is free to move(subject to the usual compensation).
Toadhall Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I am not worried. No way that NC will let his contract expire. He may be tempted to move on if we are nowhere this season, but we will get big bucks. Personally I think he will be with us next year Not if he has say less than a year left on his current contract - we need to extend his contract not just for the sake of keeping him playing for us but also if we want to get the best deal for him.
Nexstar Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Really can't see anything happening regarding Lallana in January. If he's out of contract in the summer any prospective club would hold out to save money, i'm sure he would like to get us promoted, even if he does intend to leave and we don't need to sell. We may have a chance of keeping him if we get promoted this season, so i'd like to see Cortese act. I'm sure this hasn't escaped him or Adkins
South Londoner Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I think that Drew Surman's experience at Wolves might make Adam a little less hasty to leave.
Saints foreva Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I reckon he will be gone by the end of January if no contract's are signed. I don't think NC would want to risk losing him for a small fee come Summer.
benjii Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 On the contrary, I think the potential reward to the club from promotion is greater than the potential reward of selling him with only 6 months left on his contract. If we are ever going to achieve the owner's vision, we need to get promoted. That is more important than turning over a couple of mill from a player sale. For that reason, given that he's an important first XI player, I can't see him leaving in January (unless we are 20 points clear of third place!) - we will refuse all realistic offers. He may well not want to sign a new contract, which is up to him, but I'm sure he will see out the season with us.
musesaint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 If we look like going up in January he will stay If we do go up in May he will stay So ...in short ....we need to go up
a1ex2001 Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 He won't sign an extension before the end of the season and in my mind he would be crazy too, he is easily good enough for a top Championship side and who knows beyond that. He will wait and see what happens to Saints and no doubt have a sniff to see who else is interested in him. Hopefully we will be promoted and he will want to stay to see if we can get back into the prem in double quick time, but then again he may decide he would rather sit on Evertons bench than continue to drive this team forward in the Championship.
Bucks Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Not if he has say less than a year left on his current contract - we need to extend his contract not just for the sake of keeping him playing for us but also if we want to get the best deal for him. Er, thanks, yes I am well aware of how it works. In case you did not get my original post, IMHO an extension will be signed (for the reasons you have helpfully spelt out)
Bucks Saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Yeah, it's not as if Lallana has a choice. We will sell him if he is determined not to sign (I dont think either of these will happen FWIW). NC may be many things, but he is no fool when it comes to the value of players contracts
Harry Faz Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Anyone here ITK on this one ? Surely the club have already approached him with an offer of an extended contract? Although im used to us losing our best young palyers - im looking at the situation with Adam as a real test of the new regimes ambition, and hoping we can retain him. Willl be v disapointed if we lose him.

Exactly right; there is simply no reason whatsoever that Lallana would sign a new contract before the end of the season, it just isn't in his interests. Much better to take a decision at the end of the season when he knows which division we'll be in, and what other offers are on the table. And given that we will due a development fee for him, which will decide his value by tribunal, it's not completely imperative that we sign him to new contract. It is of course more of a risk in that his valuation will be determined independently rather than us holding out for a set figure, but a number of previous multi-million pounds development fees awarded suggest that we should receive a true reflection of his value.
dronskisaint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 You'd hope he'd know Saggy was a **** anyway & not sign for them....as has been said he could easily make it in the Prem but he could be there with us in 2-3 seasons if he's enjoying life & his football. I note Drew not getting regular starts at porwich either.
corsacar saint Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 As has already been alluded to,if we go up he stays. If not I am sure we will have more than a job,to keep hold of Lallana,Fonte,Schneiderlin and maybe one or two others.

Don't forget that Bmuff are owed a big sell on fee for Adam. Something like 20% if not 25% of any fee received. This actually seems a hefty cut to me, considering he was only 11 or something when we signed him and all his development since has been at our expense. Just a great big free gift to them really...

Come on NC, get him signed up for longer. This is not something that can be "blamed" on Cortese Lallana holds ALL the cards, does he A) Stay with Saints in the hope that we get Promoted to the CCC B) Take a lucrative deal with one of a number of Clubs, already in the CCC or even Higher ??? As I keep saying, we are, at the moment, STILL in the THird level of UK Football My own feeling is that he will take an offer from a Higher League Club, to further his career Unfortunately, no one can Guarentee that he would further his career with Saints In Division One, we carry very little Clout I'm afraid

I'm sure Drew Surman's experience might make him think twice (although I'm sure Surman's Bank Account is a bit healthier by now) To be fair to drew when he left the money helped keep us afloat, and why would he want to stay on a sinking ship. Now we are on the way up, which makes it a different kettle of fish, a whole new ballgame, the lads done brilliant and it's a game of two halves so we'll have to see how it pans out in the long run and take one game at a time ...... sorry got carried away there !!
SuperMikey Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Adam loves this club, i'm sure top of his list is a new contract. Please Adam!

That can at least be off set with a sell-on clause on his next contract which seems usual practice when setting value for youngsters these days at tribunal
Saint Mikey Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I'm sure Lallana is keeping his options open. He is 22 now and 2 seasons in this league is enough for him. He's arguably the best player in this division, he is completely two-footed, which not many players in this league can lay a claim to. Not enough people mention this, which makes me wonder if people now much about playing football. He also scores goals and makes a lot of chances, and from midfield - that is golddust. He has made a massive difference to the team since his return to injury and his absence really highlighted his worth to the team. I'm sure NC and NA realise this and he will be offered very good terms at the club. Depends if he wants to take it or not. I really hope we can can keep him, as I've really had enough of losing the 'crowd favourites' and above all - he is an entertaining player. That's what I pay money to see -entertainment. Out of all the current crop of players, I would be most gutted if Lallana left.

Drew's team are currently third in the championship - it didn't work out for him at Wolves but once he's fit again there's a chance he's going to have a very successful season. It's not like he's made a terrible mistake and would have been better off here. Besides, if Lallana's got any confidence in his own ability then he'll probably also look to the example of Walcott and Bale (who I know Adrian mentioned above) and also Baird who people on here suggested had made a mistake joining Fulham because he was a sub for a while.

Although im used to us losing our best young palyers - im looking at the situation with Adam as a real test of the new regimes ambition, and hoping we can retain him. Willl be v disapointed if we lose him. I spoke to Adam's dad recently and he said Adam is really happy here. He said that he and his girlfriend have bought a place in Wimborne.Adam is a big family man and I would be suprised if he moved away from his parents and sister.
Window Cleaner Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Adam loves this club, i'm sure top of his list is a new contract. Please Adam! Not in League 1 it won't be. Playing higher standard football is no doubt Number 1 on his list.Plus as a free agent he'll get a whacking great signing on fee from whatever club he chuses (including us),we'll get a development fee in any case and Bournemouth will get err f... all.
Solent2191 Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Adams a big Everton fan so if they come in for him, it will be hard for him to say no....

Saints foreva Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Adams a big Everton fan so if they come in for him, it will be hard for him to say no.... Always thought he was a boyhood Bournemouth fan.
saint_bert Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Is it Weston saint who's a close family friend of his. Or is that Surmans family?
gazd83 Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Always thought he was a boyhood Bournemouth fan. He has a liking for Bournemouth after living in the region for years but father is an Everton fan which has also rubbed off on him.
LeBenali Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 What b*llocks. 100% an Everton fan! Source: me seeing him wearing an Everton shirt when he was younger. Also has a few links to Tony Pulis at Stoke, wouldn't be surprised to see him ending up somewhere like that
niceandfriendly Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I'm fairly confident (based on nothing but my own suspicions) that Lallana will not only want what's best for himself, but also for Southampton FC. I get the impression that he loves it here. Growing up at a club and turning yourself into a first team regular must feel special so I'm sure he holds the club close to his heart. So I believe he'll sign a contract, even if it means him leaving at the end of this season.
Andy_Porter Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 Lallana at Stoke?! Yep he'd fit in perfectly there.
AussieDog Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 A footballers career can be over in an instant with a nasty knee injury, and I am sure they are all aware of that. If some idiot comes along and offers him a 3 year contract on 50k a week, he would be nuts not to take it! As much as I would like to see him stay, if he has any sense he would grab an opportunity like that with both hands if it did come up. However...if some Championship or Premier League team tried to get him on the cheap, then I would hope he would show a bit of loyalty to us if we are odds on to be in the Championship next season come January.
Gator Posted 11 October, 2010 Posted 11 October, 2010 I think that Drew Surman's experience at Wolves might make Adam a little less hasty to leave. He'd probably compare himself to Walcott and Bale - rightly so!

SET Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Meant that as personal opinion. What's he on here 4k at most. Could jumped to prem league and increase his wage 3 fold, he'd be stupid to stay.
Saint Mikey Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Meant that as personal opinion. What's he on here 4k at most. Could jumped to prem league and increase his wage 3 fold, he'd be stupid to stay. Seeing as we offered an ageing Italian £7k a week. Even if he is on £4k now (when did he sign his last contract - when we were skint?), we'd offer him closer to £10k I would have thought, more if we were def in the C'ship.
doddisalegend Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 100% an Everton fan! Source: me seeing him wearing an Everton shirt when he was younger. Also has a few links to Tony Pulis at Stoke, wouldn't be surprised to see him ending up somewhere like that That doesn't mean a lot my nipper has a Barca shirt, a Dons shirt (my brother in law don't ask), a Spain shirt and a several saints shirts he saints through and through but he likes wearing football shirts. Theres no point worrying about players leaving if he's happy and wants to stay he will if he isn't he won't. The best we can hope for is that we can plunder a good replacement from some team lower down the food chain. Sadly Matty was a one off (and even he wouldn't have stayed if we'd been relegated), most players want to play at the highest level they can for as much money they can and who can blame them? Hopefully the team is better than just one player (although the start of this season suggests that we struggle without Adam unfortunetly)
brmbrm Posted 12 October, 2010 Posted 12 October, 2010 Can someone please explain how NC can "get him signed up" or "make him renew" his contract? Do you mean the old horse's head-in-the-bed trick? Otherwise its completely up to Lallana to sign or not sign. Cortese's choice is whether to offer him a contact or not, and on what terms. Free market. Gone in january when we can get some dosh for him.
