spyinthesky Posted 9 October, 2010 Posted 9 October, 2010 OK the information is only second hand and the meet was set up to improve relations with those in the expensive seats but, apparently, Cortese won over the Exec Club members at a recent meet. Cortese has the full backing of the Liebherr family to undertake Markus's wishes and push the Saints forward to a Champions League spot. Money is available and will be spent in January The club is looking to work with City Council to develop area around St Marys (River Itchen frontage/Gasometers etc), otherwise a relocation is on the cards. Promotion WILL be achieved this season. Nothing really new. However confirmation of the previously revealed strategy seemed to win over the previously sceptical exec members. Any one else have a feedback from the meet?
Patrick Bateman Posted 9 October, 2010 Posted 9 October, 2010 "promotion will happen" ... I know the "family" are rich, but bribing the Football League!!
Wes Tender Posted 9 October, 2010 Posted 9 October, 2010 "promotion will happen" ... I know the "family" are rich, but bribing the Football League!! Promotion will happen and after today's performance, I'm beginning to have faith in Adkin's ability to deliver it for us.
Matthew Le God Posted 9 October, 2010 Posted 9 October, 2010 Promotion WILL be achieved this season. Can I have that in writing from the Football League please?

Rut Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Cortese has the full backing of the Liebherr family to undertake Markus's wishes and push the Saints forward to a Champions League spot. As they say on Monday Night Football - c'mon man FFS - there is no point in just aiming for a Champions League spot. We need to win the f**** thing!!!! I like the vibe though. It may be all hot air & gas but who cares? I'm up for it. As Suburban Filth once sang - Let's F***** Riot!!!!! SFC - pride of the world.

saintscottofthenortham Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 what does that mean relocation is on the cards. new stadium ??? In an interview with Radio Solent sometime last season, Cortese stated that he either wants to totally refurbish the Area surrounding St Mary's, making it somewhere that we can be truly proud of with facilities and shopping area's etc etc surrounding it (Chelsea Village) or if that is not possible (Due to the amount of businesses surrounding the ground that it would be pretty much unfeasable to carry Plan A out, then they would look into relocating to somewhere that can handle all of that (King George Playing Fields opposite Parkway Station being the most likely IMO.)
sadoldgit Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 I admire his confidence and I hope he is right. But what if we don't get promoted this season?
Toadhall Saint Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 I admire his confidence and I hope he is right. But what if we don't get promoted this season? The world will end? The four horsemen of the apocalypse will ride into town all guns blazing?
sadoldgit Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 The world will end? The four horsemen of the apocalypse will ride into town all guns blazing? Eek.
MarkSFC Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 I admire his confidence and I hope he is right. But what if we don't get promoted this season? You'll be happy and saying "I told you".
mancsaint Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 The club is looking to work with City Council to develop area around St Marys (River Itchen frontage/Gasometers etc), otherwise a relocation is on the cards. I noticed recently that a lot of money has been spent upgrading the pipework/valves etc on the gasometers so dont expect them to be demolished anytime soon. Mancsaint
Legod Third Coming Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 I noticed recently that a lot of money has been spent upgrading the pipework/valves etc on the gasometers so dont expect them to be demolished anytime soon. Mancsaint Aye, a nice shade of yellow that - mind you that's probably the Council's response to Cortese asking for them to spruce the area up a bit...
saintscottofthenortham Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 oh ffs sadoldgit is at it on this fred aswell...
Red and White Army Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 I admire his confidence and I hope he is right. But what if we don't get promoted this season? Cortese will do to Adkins what he did to Pardew?

Almost Stoneham then, which was and still is, the most Logical place to put a Multicomplex Football Stadia
SaintRichmond Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 I noticed recently that a lot of money has been spent upgrading the pipework/valves etc on the gasometers so dont expect them to be demolished anytime soon. Mancsaint Why not ??? The Council is very good at refurbishing pavements, only for the Gas or Electric Company's to come along and dig it up again to instal new Pipework/Cables
dubai_phil Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 oh ffs sadoldgit is at it on this fred aswell... Oh please, leave him alone, he's lonely now that Alp's has been off air for a week or so
Ricky Redstripe Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Where was Nicola yesterday? I didn't see him in the directors box, which is unusual for him.

Pokerchampion Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Just buisness people who sit in the old Matt Le Tiss suite . I was a member for 12 years before they moved to St Mary's and trebled the price of the Dell . Nobody important just buisness's from around the area who all pay £2600 for the privelage of sitting in directors box , and having a meal before the game . I did get a full report of the meeting . Some of the things are personal to exec club , but i was told McMenemy who was an ambassador for the club with Benali were both charging the club £75000 a year + they got to bring their own guests for food and drink per game . Lots of other gossip that i cannot repeat as well .
Rory Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 This has probably been asked before but, if we do relocate from the St Marys area, will Saints become the first club to have two new stadiums in recent history? From being the envy of many when the St Mary's was built, it would be truly awesome to blow everyone away again with another stunning construction. I must say, it's never dull being a Saints fan.
Pokerchampion Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 There was no mention of another stadium .
Saint 76er Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 what does that mean relocation is on the cards. new stadium ??? No. Cortese will, if needs be, relocate the entire city of Southampton to a large vacant area just outside of Zurich. Whilst some of you may have language difficulties with this, just think of the tax advantages! Also, opposing clubs unable to afford the air fare will need two days in a coach to reach us, thus affording us a considerable home ground advantage ...
aintforever Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 I would prefer it if they redeveloped St Mary's, I would hate to move to some out of town location. Having said that it would be worth knocking down a perfectly good stadium and building a second bigger one purely to **** pompey fans off.
Matthew Le God Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 (edited) There was no mention of another stadium . Cortese did mention the possibility of a new stadium in an interview with the BBC earlier in March 2010. Listen here from 36 minutes onwards... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8565161.stm Edited 10 October, 2010 by Matthew Le God

sadoldgit Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 we will get promoted this season. Thanks Nicola
sadoldgit Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 You'll be happy and saying "I told you". Have I said I don't think we will get promoted?
Saints foreva Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 This has probably been asked before but, if we do relocate from the St Marys area, will Saints become the first club to have two new stadiums in recent history? From being the envy of many when the St Mary's was built, it would be truly awesome to blow everyone away again with another stunning construction. I must say, it's never dull being a Saints fan. St. Mary's isn't a stunning contruction, it is quite a boring ground that is very similar to: Riverside Stadium Pride Park Stadium of Light The Darlington Arena MK Stadium Walkers Stadium Madejski Stadium Hopefully in the future Cortese makes our stadium a little more unique.
sadoldgit Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 oh ffs sadoldgit is at it on this fred aswell... It is a valid question. Nice that he is confident but he will look like a total c*ck if we don't go up won't he?
SW5 SAINT Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 No. Cortese will, if needs be, relocate the entire city of Southampton to a large vacant area just outside of Zurich. What about the docks, how will QM2 & Oriana et al sail in and out of landlocked Switzerland!?
Jimmy_D Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 What about the docks, how will QM2 & Oriana et al sail in and out of landlocked Switzerland!? See, this is where it gets clever. Huge canals will be built to accommodate the docks, thus kickstarting Switzerland's ocean cruise business and helping to bring them through the global recession. It's all mutually beneficial see.
Saint_John Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Where was Nicola yesterday? I didn't see him in the directors box, which is unusual for him. I noticed that as well. (some thoughts) Was he at the game ?? Were the Liebherr family over and he went in a Box with them ?? Now that the problems with the "Football Side" of the Club have been addressed he may be turning his attention to the Executive Club or the Boxes and why there are poor sales ??
Ewell Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 The club is looking to work with City Council to develop area around St Marys (River Itchen frontage/Gasometers etc), otherwise a relocation is on the cards. The key thing to do this would have been to be a core component of the England 2018\22 world cup bid. If the City had pushed us forward with an application (I know we were in admin but the city could have bought the stadium if the club no longer existed which was always unlikely) then I have no doubts the whole area around St Mary's would have been developed to the high standards dictated by this tournament. The council will have pushed through with backing from the government compulsory purchase orders on the surrounding land so redevelopment could take place. The fact we are not part of this says to me it is unlikely this area will be developed. I would say a move is the only way Courtese will get his wishes. The council will not **** off a load of local businesses just because the local football club think the area looks ****. A world cup bid would have been a whole lot different!
Matthew Le God Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Now that the problems with the "Football Side" of the Club have been addressed he may be turning his attention to the Executive Club or the Boxes and why there are poor sales ?? I'm sure he is fully aware of that i.e. Saints are in the 3rd tier. The corporate sales side will only fill up when the team progresses up through the leagues towards the top flight and the more attractive fixtures become a regular occurrence at St Mary's once more. Games against Tranmere, Oldham, Dagenham & Redbridge aren't attractive to the corporates.
saint_mears Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Unbelievable who would have thought that ! Cheaper than clive woodward then.
manji Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Cheaper than clive woodward then. Whats that got to do with it smears ?
captainchris Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 Cortese will do to Adkins what he did to Pardew? just no way dkins will be sacked ever. He's probably the best manager in England going on the performances he is getting from these players. This weekend's performance was the best football I've seen Saints play since we finished second in the old first div under Lawrie Mac. No longs balls at all - passing football. I have yet to see any opposition score a goal when they don't have the ball - even Brazil cant do that! Still on a high after making Tranmere look like a pub team!
Red And White Barmy Army Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 probably been known for a while, but ive only just found out that les reed is an executive director now :/ was this just me?
Whitey Grandad Posted 10 October, 2010 Posted 10 October, 2010 See, this is where it gets clever. Huge canals will be built to accommodate the docks, thus kickstarting Switzerland's ocean cruise business and helping to bring them through the global recession. It's all mutually beneficial see. I thought of that but there's a snag. All the water in Switzerland will drain down into the Mediterranean.
