Saint-scooby Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 I think its time I tried this past time again, does anyone par take or can anyone recommend a half decent set up ?
Big John Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 if you like stout try the australian brew from the healthfood shop in shirley, nice and gloopy
Chopper71 Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 Health food shops are the place to start. Little tip I've been given but have yet to try - about 4 days before bottling sprinkle bits of egg shell over the top. It gradually sinks and captures any sediment on it's way down. As long as you don't then disturb the bottom you'll get nice clear beer, but make sure you don't get egg shell in the bottle (obviously)
BadgerBadger Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 Done a fair few barrels in the past and have just got the kit out the loft to get some ready for Xmas after buying a tin in Tesco. There's a great shop in Fareham, he's really friendly and helpfull and always has a few samples of his latest tipples for you to sample: Harvey Wine & Beer Making Centre 174 West Street, Fareham, PO16 0EQ Brewing bucket, brewing barrel, steriliser and telescopic syphoning pipe - you can buy kit's with everything you need for about £50, loads of home brew websites out there. Simple brew kits that are around £10 and premium kits are around £18 and if left longer are bloody good. I don't bother with bottles just let it finnish in a pressure barrel. Have brewed some crackers but when you've got 40 pints in your cupboard that taste that good and the buzz that you brewed it - it's amazing/worrying how quick it goes. Here's a link to a kit but definatley worth visiting a homebrew shop and having a chat. http://www.brew-it-yourself.co.uk/shop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=568
Saint-scooby Posted 6 October, 2010 Author Posted 6 October, 2010 Thank you for that, I shall venture down there ASA---P and spend some cash
Lighthouse Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 I wonder how many people have had the 'genius' idea of brewing their own hooch, only to end up in A&E. I was in Spain a few months ago and they were selling this nasty stuff from the local convenience stores. About €2 for a 4L bottle of homemade wine. I tried some and it was like drinking window cleaner. You could strip paint with it. Let us know if it's a success. If not... R.I.P.
