Opening the bonnet on a mk4 astra that has a broken cable.....

Yeah, lie down in front of the car with your head under the valance and look upwards. You should be able to see the bonnet catch arrangement and you should be able to prise the hook part to one side with a screwdriver.

Managed to get it open, cable wasnt snapped it seems and google sprung up pushing down on the bonnet while pulling at the latch, and voila!
