SuperSAINT Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 How the mighty have fallen. He was brilliant for us. I find it crazy to think he has to drop to League 1 to get his career back on track. Be interesting to see how he does.

Village Saint Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 As indeed I pointed out at the time this really was Rupert's masterstroke - getting 1.3m for a player who was never likely to play seriously again! Although didn't he also negotiate £8m for Dean Richards or was that before his time? So even the evil duckhunter occasionally did something in our interests.

Richards was good value at 8m when we sold him, I don't think even Rupes could have known the misfortune that would befall him. Old Rupes always got us good money for players who left, just a shame other than that he was a monumental ****.
sadoldgit Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 It took a while for Burley to get a class centre half in but he did the biz with this guy. Was sorry when he left and I hope he gets his career back on track.
doddisalegend Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 to be fair to Lowe one of his strengths was getting good deals for when we sold. That's all the practice he got selling every player that wasn't nailed down.
Dalek2003 Posted 6 October, 2010 Posted 6 October, 2010 RL played a good game of poker and for a while it worked but like all gamblers his luck ran out and he made many mistakes, perhaps the most of all with his managers...should have held his nerve !!!!!

SNSUN Posted 8 October, 2010 Posted 8 October, 2010 Was thinking about this the other day. Which other players did we have on our books that should have achieved more but for injuries? David Hughes is an obvious one. Any others?
Eastcowzer Posted 9 October, 2010 Posted 9 October, 2010 See thread title 'Southampton fans'. http://www.thefootballforum.net/index.php?/forum/7-league-one/ Some very astute observations, regarding Messrs Pulis and Bignall. I liked the reference to the latter, 'runs like Linford Christie'. Would that be with, or without the 'lunch-box' ?.

I guess Jamie Redknapp doesn't count.

I thought Andrew Davies was completely over-rated by most fans during his time here and am not surprised he has achieved little sice he left.
