Anybody come up with any possible train routes from Southampton? Aside from going through London at £55 quid each return, not found much else.

Unlikely you will get better than that now, the cheap train deals tend to go on sale 10-12 weeks before travel, so if you want the cheapest prices got to get on it quickly.

The best we could get was £24 return St Pancras to Nottingham , so £55 from Southampton sounds about right.

probably just as cheap to get a car load together and stay for the weekend.

Yeah I did suspect this. Last season managed to plan things well in advance, managed to do Southampton to Carlisle return for about £35 return all in all. Not been as organised this time around for 1 reason or another. Cheers anyway.

I used to make that trip regularly and you went via Birmingham New Street or Derby. Have you tried going on to the National Rail website and putting "Southampton" in the "from" box and "Nottingham" in the "destination" box?

Planning to go - where's everyone going for a drink?

Got to get into the Trip for at least one pint - supposedly the oldest pub in England

It's in the wrong direction from the train station and not that great. You would be better going to Hooters which is near the station and on the way to the ground.

Just got my ticket. We're in the Jimmy Sirrel stand upper, so not behind the goals.

Not happy about that, would be much better in the end behind the goal. Anyone know what the maximum allocation we'll be getting for this? Got a feeling it might sell out.

Scrap that, just had a look and Huddersfield had over 3k when they played there earlier in the season, so shouldn't be any problems with tickets.

Much rather just find a proper boozer with a couple of bar girls with decent t1ts to be honest!

When I lived there many years ago there was a bar up the top end of town that had strippers on Sunday lunch-time. It was always best to go there after lunch because you lost your appetite after watching these old grannies swing their boobies around ...........

Yes as it happens, which is where I got the £55 from. I also tried it via Birmingham, Leicester, Derby, Oxford...etc which is why I asked for any other possible routes.

Talking to a county supporting mate today and was told Sheff Wed took over 4000. I think we can make this another Orient type occassion where we out number the home fans. For those driving up if you arrive early enough there's loads of free parking around Meadow lane.

Doing the weekend up there, anyone got any tips for some decent boozers in the town centre?

Heard Nottingham is full of clunge so looking forward to it.

The lace market area is where a lot of the better bars and pubs are. Less pikey (although there is generally a fair share of "pike" in Nottingham) than the bars directly abutting Old Market Square which are the usual hell holes likes Yate's. The Pitcher & Piano is worth a quick visit, if only for the impressive building (although maybe not the best bet for clunge and it aint cheap). I can't remember the names of too many other places but if you have a stroll round there you find something to suit your needs!

In terms of late-bars/clubs, lace market has some independent type places ranging from the alternative to the mainstream; there is a big Oceana near the middle of town (5 mins walk from Old Market Square); another "disco-ey" club called Ocean (or it used to be - not been to Notts for a few years) down near the castle - this is a popular student haunt so could be busy with young, nubile, tight, smooth clunge given that it's Halloween. There used to be a bar up the hill from Ocean called BZR which did triples for the price of singles.

Basically, everything is pretty well clustered around the centre and close together.

That's weird. Away fans normally behind the goal.

I have a funny photo somewhere of the Wrexham away contingent at a League Two match a few years ago. There were about 50 of them in a little group in the middle of a stand that must have held about 5,000!

They have been sticking away fans in the Jimmy Sirrell Stand for the past two seasons, shame really because the stand behind the goal is fantastic for atmosphere when there is a half decent turnout. Sheffield Wednesday have always had a good turnout but in fairness it's only about 45 minutes away so 4,000 turnout was always likely.

Best bar for me pre-match would be the Southbank which is right next to Trent Bridge, only 5 minutes from the ground and a proper sports pub. Popular with cricket and football fans (big Forest pub), the barmaids that they tend to employ usually have superb racks. The beer is pretty decent too and normally has at least three real ales going plus the usual selection of lager plus the continental types too (decent grub is served for those of you who don't agree with the 'eating is cheating' rule). There are also plenty of bars close by in West Bridgford, which is the other side of the river from Meadow Lane.

In terms of a night out wherever you go you'll have an absolutely blinding night. As Benjii says, the Lace Market is a great selection of classy little bars and late night venues. Dogma was a personal favourite of mine. There is also a Lloyds bar very close to the Lace Market, plenty of snatch and of course cheap booze.

Shame I'm missing out as I'm over the other side of the Atlantic at the time however I did spend 7 years as both a pikey student and at work there so know the place very well.

Have fun.

Thanks for your help mate. They got many late licence bars/casinos/strip clubs etc up there?

Also, any truth on the rumour that the women outnumber the blokes by about 7 to 1?!

Sounds like you know the place weel - any recommendations?

Pretty much what Benjii and stkev7 have been saying.

Oceania is normally the best club on a night out.

Lace Market nowadays, lots of places closed now. However Pitcher and Piano still pretty good, Dogma still going, also recommend Tantra.

Would recommend BZR opposite Nottingham Castle entrance.

For live bands The Approach is by far the best place, just down from BZR opposite Walkabout close to Market Square.

Matchday, obviously Hooters is more or less next door to Meadow Lane!

Southbank as someone has already mentioned.

Have the Navigation and Globe nearby. The old Casa has now re-opened, think it is called RiverBank, not been there yet, good food I hear though.

Other nice pubs ye old trip to jersulalem below the castle.

Any of the ones near the canal are pretty good, Via Fossa, Canal House, Fellows Morton and Claymore.

That's the one next to the tram track that runs up from Old Market Square towards the station isn't it? I was trying to remeber the name of that place - good bar.

Thats the one, close to lloyds bar.

Also have Pit and Pendulam and Hogshead close by.

Apparently the Trent Navigation has closed again a mate was telling me.

Good shout on the Approach, great boozer plus there is a strip club almost next door called Flirtz.

we should be able to take more than 1400 up there, but can't see us selling enough tickets with more than a week in advance, especially with no more home games between now and the 22nd.

Spread the word to others you know who are going to get their tickets before the 22nd.
