of course he is allowed. Just wish highly paid footballers were as dedicated to maximising their performance as other sportsman are - divers, runner, rowers etc - wouldn't happen as they know (as do footballers) it adversely effects their performance

 

 

I think ChrisPY was making the point that divers do stay out past midnight, it is not only footballers. He wasn't trying to link the stories or the assailants together! :facepalm:

I've just found out I know the guy who got hit, I was supposed to be out with them on Saturday night so I could have given you an eye witnesses account but unfortunately I'm a boring f#*k and I stayed in. Sorry

For legal reasons I can't say anythng but there isn't much too it, the was a disagreement and person X hit person Z with a glass weapon which left him bloodied up and in need of medical attention.

Not as far as we know, bailed again.

 

Don't let that get in the way of some of "us" wanting to lynch him though. Even when charged there's the small matter of going to court in x months time and being found guilty.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant there is nothing much to add or any spice that hasn't already been mentioned, just a standard Saturday night drunken altercation which unfortunately left couple of chaps needing treatment.

 

The full story will come out soon I'm sure, the chap involved is very well known around town as he used to do the doors on the bars around Bedford place.

 

It's just such a shame barney was involved he's had a cracking start to the season.

Me and SRS were out in town in the evening, later on alot of our group ended up in Whitehouse and ended up right in the middle of it unintentionally. I will be surprised if we see Barnard play for us again, thats all I am saying on the matter. It was nasty to say the least.

If what we are being told/speculated is true, I was told by a solicitor freind of mine he could be looking at 3 years if found guilty.

 

IF its malicious wounding with intent then he could be looking at 3-4 years. A lot depends on the circumstances and any history of this type of thing on his part. He could also get found guilty and get community service and a very large fine - I know of cases where both outcomes have happened.

If it had been a clear cut case of 'malicious harm with intent' then I'm sure Adkins/Cortese would have determined as much from interrogating Barnard themselves and, if it was clear cut, then they wouldn't have stood by him (which they appear to have done by virtue of him being in the squad on Saturday).

 

I therefore believe we can draw a relatively educated conclusion that there is a significant element of doubt in Barnard being found guilty of a serious crime.

 

Just my hunch.

my hunch is none of us have a clue what happened and he could have any thing from not being charge to going inside for few years!

Settle down, I really doubt this will come to any form of custodial sentence. As far as I can gather this was nothing premeditated or intended to deliberately disfigure. Yes, it all sounds bad, but unless he has a Joey Barton history this will just be at the worst a well earned lesson for him and the guy will get paid out. All sides seem to be keeping mum at the moment, so I can't see this having legs.

Interesting he had a hand injury - usually only get those if you hit someone with your fist! Let's hope our players were not too involved and charges are not made to which they have to answer. It does make me wonder - what are "professional" (ahem) sportsmen doing out at that time of night alledgedly (ahem) under the influence of alcohol?

 

I guess the club will make a statement later today?

 

I stand by something I said earlier today elsewhere - if the allegations made in these pages are true - the guilty party (if a Saints player) should never play for Southampton again - we don't want this sort of thug associated with our club!

 

Totally agree. We used to be renowned as a friendly family club suitable for kids. Let's keep it that way.

forgive me, not sure what generation of football you grew up watching, but i followed saints at a time when we employed some of the best drinkers in the league - and we had a bloody good team. Didn't ruin me or my love of saints.

Football is a different game now. Todays players are all much fitter and if they could go back to the future I *think* the great teams would struggle to keep up. That said players todays are nowhere near as hard (in general) and the ball is like a beachball. But wouldn't be lovely to be able to turn the clock back to see.

Although he did it as a joke, the sketch by Harry Enfield of the Old Arsenal team against Liverpool of '91 I think definatly shows the difference.

Say Barney has mixed it up with some "useful" people. What if they said pay us off or you going down and getting a good kicking some other time? Possibly ruin his career for ever! Barney's option pay say £100,000 and everyone is happy except the Old Bill?

Has he been actually charged with anything yet, for charges to be dropped???????????

 

And the guy that said he had heard they had been dropped, suggested "The Passing of silver" might have helped... The only problem with that is that with so many witnesses, it has nothing to do with whether he wants to prosecute or not (Unless he wants to file a civil charge) it's down to whether the CPS think there is a reasonable chance of winning
