Time To Drop Lambert

Time to drop him, defininitely. Right now. Before he stops scoring. That's SENSIBLE.

People on this board are crazy.

Rob a little trawl back through the thread, suggests that most people thought he should be dropped, but we didnt have anybody to replace him with.

I know you dont go very much, but trust me he was / is a shadow of the Lambert we all love. Whilst there was definately an improvement in him today, it is still a very laboured and uninterested Lambert, who isnt close to being fit.

Great that he scored from open play, but if you were there today, then cast your mind back to the first minute, which sums up the original post perfectly.

I agree he is still off last years form, but improving. But he still did not deserve dropping!

i have to be honest and say that they way we are playing at the moment, passing and quick football does not suit Lambert, he is not quick or mobile and slows the play up when the ball is played into him, he is obviously a class finisher but i just wonder if he fits into Adkins long term plans.

Im sorry gemmel but that is a load of rubbish. I agree last week he was improving but not as good as last season. Today you are WRONG! He was back to his best. I thought he looked fut and mobile. He won a lot in the air second half, hit the bar, good goal, great ball that barnard somehow missed. You are being silly today. He was the lambert of last season, get over it.

Rickie Lambert in 1st minute bad touch shocker.

Guly gave the ball away with his first two touches but from then on was superb. Rickie was too slow to get the shot away in the first minute but from then on had a very good game. You're too busy looking at what he can't do and not focussing on what he does very well.

After Gemmiel's previous comments on Kevin Davies, it's not hard to see the kind of treatment players like Kevin, Ricky, Kevin Phillps. Brett Ormeroid, suffered at the hands of our fans. No wonder none wanted to stay around. We were known as the best, fairest supporters in the land, but when even the likes of Gemmel come out on the side of the fringe, it's a very sad day in our history.

A strange view on history you have there.

- Davies was released because he was underperforming, unfit and had 5 goals to his name in 2 years.

- Phillips left for Premier League football when we went down, claiming he was never happy here (nothing at all to do with certain rumours about the carphone warehouse).

- Ormerod was released because despite all his effort, he couldn't match players like Rasiak, BWP, Fuller and Jones for goals.

- Ricky looked very unfit and lazy at the start of this season. Why should he be undroppable because of last season? That kind of comfort zone breeds complacency. I don't think he should have been dropped, but every player needs to think their place is under threat.

Art, it s not for a public message board and you ignored the sutble hints....

Davies HAD to leave, without sounding like an ITK wnaker (Which in this and the only time i will be) is absolutely correct. Go and speak to some others. He couldnt stay end of.

Phillips..... no idea what you are talking about

Ormerod.... still emabarrassed he wore the shirt.

Lambert improved yesterday, but is obviously unfit and a shadow of his former self. I love the bloke and want him to get there...but he aint there yet

And yet still plying his trade in a team he helped to promote. Blackpool - TWO leagues above us....

And as for Lambert, he isn't suited to this team any more... sad but true.

So is Delap. Irrespective of where they are now, it was the right time for them to move on. They weren't doing it at Saints and needed a fresh start. You can rave all you want about Ormerod's work rate, and I did like him for it too, but the fact of the matter is he was always at the bottom of the pecking order. Behind Beattie, Delgado, Pahars, Camara, Phillips, Crouch, Jones and Fuller. He only really got into the team because of injuries to others.

Thankfully, he created space for and assists for Beattie's goals and got us to the Cup Final despite your wayward assessment... ;)

He got 4 assists in the cup final. I know he made a decent contribution and I certainly wouldn't agree with Gemmel's assesment, but I'd have a fully fit Delgado, Pahars, Phillips, Jones, Camara or Crouch ahead of him any day.

I didn't say he wasn't suited ? I was saying that implying he isn't suited is a bit mental, in comical Alpine_saint style.

I'm not suggesting he isnt suited to the team. What I am saying is that he is unfit and not firing on all cylinders. For most strikers, that means a drop down to the bench, we dont have the cover to make that a reality and on Saturday we saw glimpses of his form, but they are still just brief spells.

He is without doubt one of the best players in this league and am glad he is a Saint....that doesnt mean he is beyond critsicism when he under performs.

33 years watching and he is the worst ive seen,.... and you can include Keith Cassells in that

I'm scared by how just plain wrong that is. He played in the same team as Stephen Crainey (yes I know he still does and they're somehow in the Prem), Calum Davenport, Olivier Bernard and Mikael Nilsson, all of whom weren't fit to lace Brett's boots, and he created shedloads of chances for us indirectly by shutting down defenders and forcing them to give us the ball in the attacking third.

He was also a hell of a striker at this level.

Have to agree with Gemmel on this one. Brett Ohmygod (he's missed again) IMO was one of the worst Saints players I have ever seen. Does anyone remember the game V Bolton which was the last game of a season. He missed from on the goaline. All he was good at was running and in the prem nearly every player should be good at that. saying that Ipersonally did not rate Chris Marsden I think it was only having Wayne Bridge bombing up and down that made him fit in to the team! Also I thought Benali was sh it. You can tell good players by the amount of attention they attract from other clubs and lets be honest when did you ever hear of other clubs coming in for the above three players. NEVER

Its when you win that you need to look at how you can be better.

Simple.....Drop Lambert.

He is one of my favorite players, but his mind is a million miles away. Get him out and get him sorted.

I have to agree completely, sadly. He just wasn't there today. His first touch with his feet is atrocious. Taking it out of the air first touch, he's still awesome, but if you pass to Lambert's feet nowadays and it'll bounce 5 feet away from him every time.

We all love Lambert, but he needs to be dropped in order to sort his form out.
