The Ofiicial 'Memories of St Landrew' Thread

For me, his contributions to the word association thread will always stick in my memory, above all else.

Please feel free to share other important memories of St Landrew.

Great thread.

St Landrew was a good mod. He was fair, reasonable and kind. We didn't always share the same interests, but he had many of the same views on things as myself. He laughed at a pictorial joke I made for him once. This is my favourite St Landrew memory, and I think it stands the test of time - and perhaps takes on a new meaning in the current light of things.

He remains a good man, but his SW persona has finally been destroyed by the incessant tides of morons. :(

I started a "Getting to know the mods" thread once back when I was able to start threads. It was going to be a whole series of threads which started with getting to know St. Landrew (shortly after, the £5 subscription was introduced and the series could no longer continue). I gave him a whole host of questions about his e-life, real life, Saints and more. He kindly made the effort to reply to it all in detail. Gunna miss him around here. He (and I suppose Ponty) were the best mods on here. Level headed fella.

Shame the mods take so much stick around here. They all try their hardest.

He helped me through my darkest hour and for that I am eternally grateful. Although he probably knew nothing about it at the time, I shall make a point of tapping him on the shoulder one day and buy him a beer.

Andy is a good bloke, a fair bloke. We were often on here in the small hours, fair to say we shared many a good laugh. I'm sure he will read this thread though will probably once more choke on his coffee and biscuits once he sees who started it:D

Is that the best we could do? 7 replies?

The St is worth more than that. For shame.

To be honest that probably has more to do with you starting the thread at 11pm on a Saturday after Saints have won

Still at least the thought was there !

Can we keep this thread about St Landrew, please. You can start a different memorial thread elsewhere.

I get the impression that some of the Mods are given the wrong idea of the task required of them and when they do their job, to the best of their ability, their best efforts are undone and thrown back in their faces.

Hey ho, I'm sure that both St Landy and Pontiff will be happier now.

Thanks you guys.

Well who is Andy? Didn't you read the thread title? Can you read?

Like referees, the ones you don't notice are the best.

This. I think he did a good job as did Ponty. They both did the job without enjoying issueing cards when all it needed was a word. Because of this they earnt respect.

For one moment I thought he had died.

What have I missed?

He has "resigned" as a Mod along with Ponty, Arizona too I believe. In other words you haven't missed much ;)

Very true.

Why have they all resigned?

Because, despite offering their services for free for all this time, they were told to reapply for their jobs. And they haven't resigned as such - just not taken up the tempting offer.

...is my understanding.

The mods have been given the Alan Pardew treatment in my very humble opinion.

I went through last season with these guys. I went through the JPT journey with them.

Cheers outgoing mods, I really do hope that you are stopping for the right reasons and will whatevr happens still come on and chat now and then.

I love you guys.

xx

St. Landrew was class, we may not have seen eye to eye on many issues, including him being a crazy biker, but I do know that if I screwed up, he'd still offer some words of advice or look to provide a solution. I think he's one of the good guys in life and I'll miss him and his amazing knack of being able to mediate or accept people at face value, despite their faults.

For him to leave like this is worrying as he's a level-headed gent who doesn't hold a grudge. I wonder who pushed him too far.

Take care St Landrew.

and some of us are Thorens women...

I must admit I like Val very much.

But what has this got to do with this thread?

Seeing that we have lost a Saint and a Pontiff from the mods, Matthew Le God seems the most natural replacement!!

As Hatch said, you only notice the bad ones. Happt Retirement.

That is easy to answer. Andy was not bored with the website, it's just that some of the posters offended him so much that he didn't want to be associated with them anymore. That is essentially what he has told me and there is absolutely no reason to think it was anything else. In fact he has been thinking of leaving for months, the "fresh start" just seemed a good time for him to go. Not only an exceptionally good moderator but a friendly and funny guy too. The forum has lost one of it's best members.

If St Landrew were still here I think he'd pass comment on the spelling of the thread title. I miss that.

I'm saddened and confused by all this fuss I am reading today.

I would like to know what the position is regards Dark Sotonic Mills as well.

Oh ok, i'll go back in to hibernation again, wee weed off about the Grand Final :(

Which is why their loss is a shame. Bexy, though - good riddance, you over zealous infraction-happy psycho.

:? and here was me thinking about re-applying!

I'm sorry you feel I treated you harshly Rob. If memory serves me correctly I only ever gave you one infraction and I certainly didn't have it in for you, but as I remember I had infracted someone else for the same thing and I couldn't be seen to show any kind of favouritism otherwise I would be getting constant moans of "it's not fair!" from some of the morons who seemed to take pleasure in making my life difficult.

If it makes you feel better, one of the reason I resigned was because I wasn't proud of the way I dealt with certain situations, and because some of the reactions I got from certain posters regarding my efforts was pretty shocking including personal abuse via pm etc... That's not what I come on here for so, combined with the fact I got a new job that meant I could spend half as much time on here, I jacked it in.

I'm sorry you hold a grudge.

Bexy, I was pretty much joking... I have clearly overstepped the mark sometimes and occasionally this should and has led to infractions. I'm not really one to moan or abuse over that sort of thing. It's a bloody forum. There've been a few times I've felt infractions were daft, or uneven, etc, but christ, it's a volunteer thing to help the community, not a court of law with a formal standardised and vetted set of procedures. My referring to you as an over-zealous infraction-happy psycho was, I assure you, a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that some people seem personally slighted by getting infractions and do, as you say, hold grudges. Please accept a humblest Robsk II style apology if I have offended you.

St Landrew has been a close friend and someone I always have a lot of time for. I was stuck dumb at first thinking like many he'd passed away. I don't think you'd find it easy to find a more devoted Saints fan and even in the most difficult times he stretched his budget to get the best of following Saints. What's more I got to know his pussy pretty well. Not many guys offer that to their mates

Have no fears, you've not heard the last of St Landrew. You can't keep a good man down Luv U AndyXX

No bother mate. I tend to go out of my way not to upset people most of the time so I wasn't sure when I read that.

99.99% on here won't have a clue what you have said.....but I do. I think I got brainwashed in the 80's with the Linn when I suspect Thorens probably made better decks, I am sure there's a couple of legendary Thorens decks I should have listened to.

You are correct.

Val Thorens in France? Outdoor furniture? Sanitary products? DJ Equipment?

St Landrew and DSM seem very intelligent and compassionate. May be slightly dull due to excess of knowledge and experience. Thanks guys!
