Fitzhugh Fella Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 Personal abuse and a lack of respect for others views should be stamped out. It is easy to hold a constructive discussion with people that are willing to disagree and argue intelligently and constructively. There are quite a few that now refuse to put arguments forward because of the abuse they receive. In the main they are much more knowledgeable, constructive and interesting than the abusers who trot out the same old rubbish. I agree Dave, cut out all the personal stuff and also stop accusing people of having an agenda just because you don't tow the line
Smirking_Saint Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 Banning dune would be a great first step for any new moderator. TBF i don't like him but i wouldn't ask him to be banned, this is exactly what i was talking about with the forum, too many people saying they can't stand someones opinion and so want them banned. Use the ignore button. Also, i apologise if i have ruined the forum for you, but i can't see how. Yes i have an opinion and i often defend it but rarely do i respond with personal attacks or trolling. If you have, or anyone a problem with my posts please PM me or put it out there and i will either explain or change if need be. But if it is just my difference of opinion and how keen i am to debate (this is a forum afterall) then i am sorry but you will have to respect that, as i do others.
chrisobee Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I agree Dave, cut out all the personal stuff and also stop accusing people of having an agenda just because you don't tow the line Also, people should stop being so pedantic......by the way it's TOE the line
Block 5 Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 There's more to this than meets the eye. So who's got the balls to actually spell it out on the forum? FWIW I believe that anyone who puts themselves forward to be a mod should be prevented from becoming a mod. PS. Thanks to the old mods who IMHO did a grand job.
Jimmy_D Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 LOL at those applying saying they want to do this and do that. Nothing needs to change imo and if anything there needs to be next to no moderation. Jimmy D says he wants people only to make a point once, but if that was enforced there'd be next to no activity on here, and as Winston Churchill once said "If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack." See Dune, THIS is what annoys people. If someone disagrees with you, by all means post again, but try and make your points relevant to their arguments. Just trying to 'pile drive' your opinions onto other people... for a start it doesn't work, and it also annoys people.
scotty Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I don't post on any Saints message boards anymore, after an infamous incident I became involved with, (the repercussions of which persuaded me not not to renew my season ticket or indeed go to a Saints game again) but, my opinion of this site is; 1. More than 50% of the posters seem too pre-occupied with bragging about being what is now a Saintsweb copyrighted "ITK" and the almost all the others seem equally pre-occupied with shouting down the alleged ITK'ers. 2. Too many posters take a weird pleasure in "unpicking" what they deem "incorrect grammar". My teenage daughter's majorly dyslexic, and this doesn't stop her conversing with her mates on Facebook all night (every bloody night) without them all feeling the need to castigate her for daring to type the way she see's words rather than the way the Queens English intended. - I'm sure this puts off many would be occasional posters. 3. Increasingly so recently, but always to some extent, every new thread seems to be taken as a new opportunity for a mass *****ing, why can't all posters simply be reasonable to each other, hold your own opinion of course, but at least show some some form of basic respect for others who have a different opinion to yours. I really believe that most posters on here would never use the same tones and language if they were speaking face to face, so, while sometimes we all get hot under the collar, theres a limit which IMHO gets crossed way too regularly on here. 4. Why do so many threads have to centre around the running of the club, rather than the football that goes on on the pitch? It used to entertain me, watching so many internet forum members seriously talking as if they had the ear of the chief exec or making statements about emailing the club about this or that, again, IMHO, his is a football supporters forum which really should be about SUPPORTING our club, not a forum about how to run it. 5. Its football! - So far this year, my sisters died suddenly, my secretary (20 yrs old) was in intensive care and will never fully recover from a serious illness and my sons mental health problems have taken a bad turn for the worse. All these things are worth loosing sleep over and are life changing, however much any of us love our football team at the end of the day thats all it is, a football team that we get varying degrees of pleasure (or pain) from supporting. So why not chill out and enjoy each day we have, be extra happy when we win, but get over it if we loose! What the hell happened to you!?? Scary. +1, youve got me wondering as well now!! Spill the beans, diggers
Smirking_Saint Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 See Dune, THIS is what annoys people. If someone disagrees with you, by all means post again, but try and make your points relevant to their arguments. Just trying to 'pile drive' your opinions onto other people... for a start it doesn't work, and it also annoys people. This is what annoyed me most about SRS, all though he made some good points and TBF brought some good debate and arguement, he couldn't actually be objective in any way or actually debate. He would just slam his point accross time and time again, often resorting to name calling if you came back at him with counter arguement. People need to be a tad more respectful, actually post reason and see both sides of an arguement, not just say this is my opinion yours is wrong, but 'this is my opinion, i don't necersarily agree with yours but this is why and this is what i agree with etc'. IMO people are too thin skinned ATM, though there is a fair share of people who just troll on here, there are people that get slammed just because they be a bit sarcastic or witty, Deppo is one. I get some people don't like what he brings but equally there are people on here that actually quite like the break up he brings to the droll that is occasionally brought forward on here. This is why people need to use the ignore button more, or just have a bit more tolerance. I don't like songs of praise but i don't ask it to be taken off the TV, i just choose not to watch it. People of both sides of this forum need to remember that just because it is not to their taste it may be to other peoples, and so tolerance is needed. A bit more objectivity, tolerance and actual explanation is needed from the mods as well, or taken onboard with the new modding teams. If posters are getting a lot of complaints (not just infraction worthy but anything) but they should be warned and told about it, not left in the dark and then getting hit with some infraction points. Could infraction points be appealable ? To an extend ? And could they be made public so we see the errors of peoples ways ? (the last point probably wouldn't work tbf) Anyways, thats just my two cents. Again i apologise if i have rubbed people up the wrong way, but again, i have my opinion and will not just drop it, but i prefer the actual debate and arguement rather than slamming home my point.
SuperMikey Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I suppose i'll put my name forward for mod then as well. Been around for a long time on various different incarnations of this forum, and I also started the Word Association thread, which is f*cking awesome.
JustMike Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 i too will put my name forward. Have been around for a while and have been involved with various versions of TSW football at fleming park (which I would love to start up again!)

diggers Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 +1, you've got me wondering as well now!! Spill the beans, diggers I'm not going to open up a can of worms again. I'm 47, had a season ticket for twenty five years, been to my fair share of aways over the years, stood under the old east and west stands, and until recently loved the buzz in the Itchen North. This year I have found it hard to feel the same camaraderie with other Saints fans, the posts on here certainly don't motivate me. I feel like a visitor at St Marys rather than feeling at home. If I'm honest I struggle to identify the players on the pitch whereas in the old days I would recognise them in an instance. This has made me take time out and recently I have decided to attend a few Glasgow Rangers games, - what a difference, the fans are properly passionate, they start singing 30 minutes before the game and don't stop throughout, contrary to what many might assume, the majority are just there for a cracking day out and not intent on fighting, all in all, (and i never thought i'd say this) i've lost my Saints mojo, through a combination of crap PR from the club and my personal opinion that too many Saints fans are growing a massive chip on their shoulders.

I have lost a little bit of love for football in general TBF. I directly attribute this to the fact that England and Saints are pretty poor ATM and with Saints league one football is something i honestly never thought i would see. But also because i can't play right now takes even more away from it. I'll get back into it, but currently i am more into having a drink with the lads, doing some fitness training and playing a bit of golf. Some of that may be why the forum is how it is BTW, what with football being so uninspiring right now.
Window Cleaner Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I shall not be applying, I would no doubt attempt to ban posters for extremely poor grammar and spelling, not typos though, just misuse of there, their and they're in the main, along with too,to and two. Definately would be a 6 months ban with no warning , which would reduce the number of posters to about 5 or 6 I suppose.

I find you generally quite a good poster even though we don't agree about a lot of things. I have noticed though that when you post late on a friday night you tend to become rather aggressive and prone to mentioning c ocks and A rses a lot. I've been on the end of a few of those posts and they always seem out of place with your usual resonable (but totally wrong;) ) posts. Doesn't bother me I'm a big boy but I can imagine others with thinner skin might take more offence.

You failed to mention your and you're, as well as my personal favourite would of instead of would have, different to instead of from, bored of instead of with. I guess you just have to accept that this is a football message board and not everyone is as clever as you and I (er, sorry, that should be me!)

If you are over a certain alcoholic limit then one would not be able to post. My only worry is that we would never see Dune ever again .
Verbal Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 It's a little worrying that things may change because of a vocal but unpleasant-seeming minority. I can't speak for anyone else, but the moderation on here seems broadly fine (It's a difficult balancing act; always will be.) The one nuisance mod was removed ages ago. If what happens next is driven by the harpings-on of posters like 1976 baby, or whatever his name is, we're heading for the buffers. I hope that's not the case.

I hope that's not the case. but 1976 wasn't always like that, he used to be a pretty reasonable guy, until the banking crisis, which I think hit him pretty hard and probably unfairly so,since then he's been a bit strange, even a bit bitter and twisted on occasions.

What and not have posters logging in of a Sunday and being aghast as to what they've submitted in a fit of drunken pique on Saturday night, wouldn't be much of a forum without that.

I've always thought the place was fine the summers are the worst becuase there no football to dicuss. Some people get on my tits and I know I annoy some people. I never reported anyone though, I don't think I would it's an internet forum so I just raise above it. Who ever become mods though deserve a big thank you. I wouldn't want the job personally.
Deppo Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 i too will put my name forward. Have been around for a while and have been involved with various versions of TSW football at fleming park (which I would love to start up again!) What are the various versions of TSW football? This has piqued my interest. Is there a naked version?
Deppo Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 If I get 10 nominations, I will throw my name in the hat.

Verbal Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I have agreed to withdraw my candidacy. Common sense prevails.
Mr saint Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 Baj, why is my title still registered user? Or do I have to change it to moderator myself? Perhaps I'm being a bit thick. Anyways, when you get round to it can you give me a reply in the mod forum. Thanks.

Verbal Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I have decided that I will be a moderator. Please email me the login details as soon as you read this. Thank you. Certainly. However, as Baj has made clear, only Full Members are permitted to apply. So please forward your bank sort code and account number to me by PM so that £5 can be deducted.
thesaint sfc Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I think we should just get rid of moderation except for extreme things like racism, death threats etc - the most serious stuff. Everything else should be left to ride.
thesaint sfc Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I'd go one step further and say that Admins should not get involved at all with the moderation of the site - only mods should. Admins just deal with the technical stuff. TBH Baj, I really don't think you're a very good mod as you have absolutely no consistency at all.
hypochondriac Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I think we should just get rid of moderation except for extreme things like racism, death threats etc - the most serious stuff. Everything else should be left to ride. But how will that solve things with the idiots who abuse others and repeat their views over and over again?
Deppo Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 But how will that solve things with the idiots who abuse others and repeat their views over and over again? Well couldn't you just give it a rest for a bit? No one is forcing you to act this way.

Your earlier post strongly implied that something had happened on this forum (or an earlier incarnation of it) which persuaded you to forego your season ticket.
scotty Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I don't like songs of praise but i don't ask it to be taken off the TV, i just choose not to watch it. You're going to hell for that, smirker
hypochondriac Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 Well couldn't you just give it a rest for a bit? No one is forcing you to act this way. And this shows precisely why moderation is very much needed.
Window Cleaner Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 You're going to hell for that, smirker Probably not, isn't autodetermination supposed to be a divine right (or something like that)
Saint Fan CaM Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 I think one of the problems is the whole registered user thing anyway. Giving registered users the ability to start threads would make such a difference. If this "new start" is just about changing a few MODS and taking away the little difference between Full Members and Registered Users, then I want a full refund of £5 and I'll just be a registered user then which would suit me fine TBF.
dune Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 The way Ponty and St Landrew have been treated for helping this business out (free of charge) is really quite disgusting. Basically they've been sacked and told they can re-apply for an unpaid job. It's no wonder they've taken the hump - anyone would if they'd been treated like this. I think you owe them an apology Baj & Steve because you've driven away some good people and made very bad error of judgement. A sticky has been posted on this subject so it's there to be discussed and that is my view on it.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 Ottery would make a great mod - FACT. Thanks to all the departing Mods - didn't always agree but it is a hard job.
Smirking_Saint Posted 3 October, 2010 Posted 3 October, 2010 Perhaps Baj and Steve need to take a step back on the moderation front, they are doing a decent job with the forum but let someone else police it. I know it is hard what with libel and all that but you need to rely on your team to stop that. And tbf we all understand the whole libel issue, personally i don't think much would ever come of it but if it were me and there was a chance i probably wouldn't risk it. This will also give Steve more time to carry on with some of his blogging on THIS site and Baj to....well....keep the site going and write songs or something. I also still think you need to bring a wider audience into the Saintsweb podcasts, it can still be edited etc but would bring more objectivity to the arguement. Just a few thoughts anyways. Would also be interesting to hear Baj and Steves thoughts on what they WANT the new era to be like ? Or what changes need to be made ?

Ponty I believe, just wanted to be thanked - just a little bit - for the time he had put in. There was none. Neither Steve or Baj have uttered one syllable of private thanks or acknowledgement for the time the mods have put in. No surprise either that they haven't posted on the St Landrew thread. It is shameful the way they have been treated.
