LBSaintsfan Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 Cortese has said that he wants Saints to be known for their attacking style. I think he didn't like the up and down long ball style of Pardew. I didn't like it either. One reason that Adkins was hired was surely to implement the passing style of football. Saints are learning to play the passing game. Pardew didn't want to play that way. IMHO that i why he was sacked.
Professor Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 He said he was promised 18 months and that the chairman failed to keep to that. The implication of what he said about Cortese's comments last season and end of season suggested Cortese had wanted him out for some time. That makes the death of Markus the event that removed the obstacle. I don't believe we would have dropped all the 9 points that we did under Wilkins, if Cortese had not removed Pardew. For me, I have lost faith and trust in our chairman, maybe he will win that back and maybe not. As for Pardew, he had his strengths and his weaknesses and so will Adkins but they will be different ones. Adkins has made a good start and he has Pardew's team which is good enough to win this division. Only question is, can they make up those 9 points to get to the top, or will we have to settle for the play-off lottery.

You mean the Team that was Lifeless, tactically clueless, and playing Hoofball from the 46th minute omwards ?? Yes, Pardew had certainly brought us forward and made us a Force to be reckoned with in Div

You're right, Pre season and this Season, Pardew didn't have a clue I doubt if you have even noticed that we have started to play FOOTBALL again ??? Noodles34 Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 You're right, Pre season and this Season, Pardew didn't have a clue I doubt if you have even noticed that we have started to play FOOTBALL again ??? funny that, i actually noticed on saturday how the actual playing style had changed, so your doubts are unfounded in that respect. However, your original point "You mean the Team that was Lifeless, tactically clueless, and playing Hoofball from the 46th minute omwards ?? Yes, Pardew had certainly brought us forward and made us a Force to be reckoned with in Div 1" is the bit you dont have a clue about, in fact the second line to be exact. You can say what you like about the style and you clearly have, don't really agree that we were watching 'hoofball' at all, though it was direct from the defense that is for sure it is certainly not comparable to Stoke etc but it did get results. Lifeless? Don't get that and tactically clueless? sometimes maybe, but then so was Fergie on saturday. But its your second line that is oh-so-wrong, Pardew did bring us forward, we went to Wembley and we are now a force to be reckoned with (well, eventually we should be) though that is as down to the money perhaps as much as Pardew. But in the end results don't lie, and forget footballing morals and purities etc, as a fan I just want to see us win, and we mostly did under Pardew. You didn't like that, fair enough, so if we carry on playing as we are under Adkins etc but only pick up 5 out of every 9 points that will be okay with you? Nellie Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 btw - why does everyone describe atkins as intelligent? just cos he wears specs i guess Maybe it's because of his business degree; psychology, finance and football management qualifications; or because he's a chartered physiotherapist. Or maybe it's because he wears glasses.

Guess these facts were missed by SaintRichmond. Be interesting to see if NA can match some of these records (JPT excepted).
Leicestersaint Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 I thought Pardew had to go because he was playing away with a wife/wives of the playing staff? Not good for morale (theirs not his).

Yes, Pardew had certainly brought us forward and made us a Force to be reckoned with in Div 1 Yes he did. One of the highest scoring teams, won a cup, would have made the play offs but for the minus 10 and started the season red hots favourites to go up. You are spot on. These rumours are looking more and more pathetic. From what Pardew has been saying it looks more likely that Cortese fell out with him over football matters and threw his toys out of the pram. But as they all have to keep their mouths shut I guess each one of us will carry on believing what we believe already.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 I hope the chairman conducts himself with as much dignity and composure as AP does in that interview. Gutted he was sacked but we have to move on now. I pity anyone who believed the scurrilous rumours put out at the time.

Yes, Pardew had certainly brought us forward and made us a Force to be reckoned with in Div 1 From October played 42, won 27. Seventh best manager in the country. Sometimes facts are wasted on this forum, because contributors are blind to reality. Still I guess even the Crystalline Air Society still has members. Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 October, 2010 Share Posted 4 October, 2010 It's quite clear from that Pardew's saying that the wife ****ging rumours are complete bull. Also if he was banging Fonte's other half the papers would have picked up on it by now. But we knew this was bull, I must have published about 30 times that it was bull, as well as letting a lot of others know what happened. I just want Cortese to come out and admit it, but he's too damn proud to do it. Bit sad really that he felt it was a good idea to destabalise us that much. Saying this, I have been a fan of Adkins for a while, just don't think he's as good as Pardew.

I'm sure the stories about Pardew and players' wives were nonsense - a rehash of similar rumours from a few years back, with no verifiable foundation to them. But what did happen? What is it that Cortese should come out and admit? You say you've already let a lot of people know, so presumably your information is 100% accurate. I'm still very much in the dark and I'd love some enlightenment - if you can produce something to back it up so much the better.
