Dahab, Egypt

I'm flying to Egypt tonight, spending 8 nights in Dahab which I am reliably informed is about an hour away from Sharm El Sheik and not quite as chavvy.

 

I've sort of left everything down to the mrs to decide what we do. Had anyone on here ever been? If so, if there is any think they can recommend we do whilst we are over there that would be great!

 

I was thinking about a day trip to Petra but thats about it...

 

I'm staying at the Hilton Dahab if anyone wants to join us!!

Fly down to Luxor for the day - Karnak is simply breathtaking, Valley of the Kings and Queens - superb.

I'd planned on doing Luxor some time when the temperaure is bearable (Jan/Feb time) as it'd be no pleasure walking round ruins in sweltering heat, but I bet it's non stop hassle and trying to rip you off from the locals.

I've been. Excellent Windsurfing and diving spot. I saw a manta ray on my first ever scuba dive there - the instructor said he'd been in that spot over a hundred times and never seen one!

 

When we were there (August a few years back) it was incredibly windy in the morning, then died to nothing at all in the afternoons. Meant I couldn't learn any windsurfing as I either got blown right off or there was no blow to get me anywhere, so I fell back to my first love of sailing. If your'e half decent it'll be fine.

 

They do do trips to Petra, which we didn't do, as well as trips up Mount Sinai (which they call Moses Mountain for some annoying reason). What we did do is took camels up this big hill / small mountain and ate supper under the stars with some beduin folks up there. Word of warning when riding a camel - your b*llocks will get crushed on the trip down!

It is as you leave the Valley of the Kings - you are shepparded through a small souk. We latched onto the back of a party of yanks and used them as cover before making a break for it.
