Chaplow - signed a 2 and a half year deal - OFFICIAL

Eff Me! Chaplow must think all his Christmasses have come on the same day if he really has landed a 2 1/2 year contract. Not even his mother wants him back home! I'll bet he's chuffed being valued at £50k even Eastleigh could afford that, where he'll likely end up on loan.

what??

Are you in a mood after Arsenal threw away their lead yesterday?

as long as he doesn't go bonkers or get sent off every other game (which looks possible on occasions), a very shrewd bit of long term planning business, and I can't believe that Nicola will have let his wages get out of hand.

For that money you get Utaka for one week down the road, and he's not as good as Chappers.

Good deal.

A very good signing and as we know he can play at least one level above where we are now. If 50k then what a steal. I would be interested to know what money he is on though.

More than Preston can afford, but then I'm going to guess, even without checking, that our gates are bigger than theirs..

Brilliant signing. Next time you fancy a moan about how teams above us spend pennys whilst we spend millions, remember this one (and Dan Harding). A very shrewd bit of business, welcome aboard Chaplow!

P.S. Please can everyone stop wasting my bandwith responding to Charlie Wayman. He is so obviously a sad, lonely retard who is desperate for attention and you're all giving it to him. Just don't respond FFS!

Edit: Notice he spoke to Neal Trotman about the move. His loan at Oldham is up in January and PNE could definitely use the cash. Would be good to get him in as a long term replacement for Jaidi.

Would rather have Martin or Seabourne to be honest.

Decent enough, but I think he's a bit of a red card waiting to happen.

but midfield players just have to get cards from time to time. It's a real combat zone in this division.Take a look at the stats for League 1. I don't doubt that apart from the real psychos all the regular offenders are in CM. Chappers and Morgan both got booked for fouls on Pilkington on Tuesday,I think both of theirs got cards for fouls on Guly.A card every 3 or 4 games is about par for the course in CM in League 1.Morgan took one for the team again because Pilkington was clean through, even Merrington who usually grannies on about card getting said it was a "good foul". Puncheon last season got a packet of cards when he was in CM for Dons, then not so many when he was on the wing for us.

Interesting take on Chaplow signing for us from Preston fans on another forum, they say he plays well until he earns a contract, then loses interest. Sounds similar to what many of our fans are saying about one of our players out on loan.......

thing is....we have seen it with us as a club on the way down..much like preston....a player goes to a club going the other way and they improve greatly...again, much like our ex players

I wasn't too impressed when he first arrived, but not playing regularly he was not sharp enough for controlling and passing. He has got that behind him now and he has certainly won me over. For a CM pairing I prefer Hammond/Chaplow two any other combination. He brings something else to the table by being a genuine box to box player. I don't think we should get too excited about his goal scoring even though he is likely to put away one or two every so often.

2 1/2 year contract means that we don't only rate him for L1 but also for promotion from CCC to PL. Looks like a good signing to me.

.

I think he makes Hammond play better, they each know their role whereas I think Morgan and Hammond as a pair are too defensive and crab like.

I certainly dont get too excited about MS goal scoring ability - the programme seller is threatened more than their goal.

Agree completely. Hammond looks a lot more relaxed with Chaplow in there instead of Morgan. I think Hammond can concentrate more on his own game (which is massively underrated by a lot of Saints fans IMO) when he has a partner with the dynamism of Chaplow. This isn't an attempt to slag off Morgan, I just think Chaplow complements Hammond better.

Well what an absolutely spiffing signing.

I was going to use a load of expletives as thats the way I am feeling about this. Didn't want them blanked out.

He's at fit as a butchers dog. He never gives up on a dead ball. If he does give away a ball, he's straight in there trying to win it back.

He has a good awareness of where his team mates are and shows intellegence. His quick thinking was demonstrated when he scored that goal on Tuesday.

What a bargain! I'm glad he wants to be here because he has the ability to perform above L1 level and thats where we are heading.

Very pleased with this signing, I liked Chaplow first time around. The guy seems to have a good attitude, coming back to St Mary's on for the end of season stroll round the pitch even though his loan spell had ended was an indication of this.

Good bit of business.

What a stupid thing to say. A brilliant signing, just the player we have been waiting for. Nice to have you on board Chappers !

:o

The original Charlie Wayman was my boyhood hero and a great centre forward, who seemed to know a great deal about football.

Great signing - he compliments Hammond or Morgan, whereas together they're too similar. He arrives quickly into the box on an attack and is a real menace in the last third. As others have said, he knows where his teammates are (I reckon he will link well with Lee B) and he gets stuck in. I just hope he continues to shine and stamp his authority on games. I feel sure he will be first choice ahead of Hammond or Morgan if available, so it will be interesting to see who out of those two gets the nod to play beside him.

Good to hear in his interview that he's looking forward to getting his family settled here too. Welcome Chappers and family to the Saints.
