Saint in Paradise Posted 30 September, 2010 Share Posted 30 September, 2010 (edited) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11441045 Cyclist Alberto Contador, winner of the 2010 Tour de France, has said he has tested positive for a banned substance. Contador's press officer said he had tested positive for clenbuterol during a rest on the Tour in July. Will some riders ever stop cheating ??? This so called "sport" has surely now lost all creditabilty IF it has had any over the past few years. . 1576 Posted 30 September, 2010 Share Posted 30 September, 2010 Not that straight forward though The concentration found by the laboratory was estimated at 50 picograms which is 400 times less than what the antidoping laboratories accredited by WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) must be able to detect. The experts consulted so far have agreed also that this is a food contamination case, especially considering the number of (doping) tests undergone by Alberto Contador during the Tour de France. It has been shown in the past that trace elements of the drug found in the human body can be attributed to food contamination. If it is found in larger amounts it usually points to deliberate doping. badgerx16 Posted 30 September, 2010 Share Posted 30 September, 2010 In the past, such sub-clinical levels of 'bute' have been traced to contaminated meat, mainly pork, particularly in meat from the far east & the USA.
Huffton Posted 30 September, 2010 Share Posted 30 September, 2010 And considering a three time Tour winner is probably the most tested man on the planet, its unlikely to be deliberate doping.
brightspark Posted 2 October, 2010 Share Posted 2 October, 2010 Should never have been released to the media. Should have been dealt with honestly behind closed doors and nobody would have ever known. Unnecessary bad publicity for a sport doing a lot to stamp out cheating, unlike say...... badgerx16 Posted 2 October, 2010 Share Posted 2 October, 2010 Maybe it's something wrong with the Spanish - there have been 4 positive tests announced this week http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/cycling/9053979.stm
