for_heaven's_Saint Posted 4 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 4 October, 2010 For the record the 'tomorrow' initially mentioned in the thread title was their midweek European game, which the drew. Was only a £5 bet so no big deal. I hope they get relegated, would be a rude awakening for the other clubs who think they're untouchable.

Hicks & Gillett fired the entire Board for talking to NESV at a price of around 300mil The Board are looking at ways to take legal action At least our days of Execs fighting the shareholders were only fought out in the media, not the Courts! dubai_phil Posted 6 October, 2010 Share Posted 6 October, 2010 sale gone through according to beeb How can it? The Board (ie employees) decided to sell for a price that the OWNERS will not accept. As a result, the OWNERS fired the Board. Torygraph Any deal will be subject to a protracted legal battle after current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett moved to sack chairman Martin Broughton and his colleagues. At the moment it is a bit like me selling your house. Isn't possible without your permission. So this is going to run for a while yet. I would expect that at the end of the day it will be the Banks that push the idiot Yanks over the edge and force the sale through. Looking at the backers of NESRV or whatever though, they aren't worth squillions so cannot see any immediate major injections of cash. Personally I hope that the banks foreclose on the Yanks, take over their charge on the club and then sell it forcing the Yanks to take a major personal financial hit. Leveraged buy-outs that dump the debt on the club should NEVER have been allowed in Football. At the height of the boom it was so easy that any idiot could have done it, as I have posted on a number of occassions, I could have got a bank to give me 30 mil for Saints and then put the debt straight onto the club. Where was the benefit or point in that? How much interest do Man Ure have to pay each year for the privilege of having the Glazers in charge? Doctoroncall Posted 15 October, 2010 Share Posted 15 October, 2010 The last day will be today. The board have agreed the sale to NESV by majority vote which has been backed by the High Court. H&G will need to either withdraw their TRO or the judge chucks it out otherwise they'll face a spot in jail for contempt of court! Phil - the amount of interest Man Utd have to pay has gone down after the refinancing, which iirc was £70m. As they have income of over £100m, it's manageable, although a slip out of the top four will be interesting.

Anyone that has read any of my posts before on the subject will know im hardly their biggest fans. However a mate of mine has been spouting off about sacking Roy and how he cant handle a big club. I hope Roy is sacked. He doesnt deserve going down on that sinking ship with the rest of the rats. Dont worry Roy, a proper club will embrace you again, and you will succed again! Smirking_Saint Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Its hardly all Roy's fault. The whole situation, the board troubles, the ego revolts that i expect are going on at the moment i mean Torres looks far from happy. He has inherited the fat spanish waiter's squad, from which the bufoon had spent far far too much and he has had no cash to spend. Hopefully he will be given a bit of cash and a bit of a leash to forge out a better future for Liverpool. As for the mong kop, i mean FFS, does one European cup really make up for pretty much detroying the team ? Benitez was a failure in my eyes, and the fact that the scousers have lost patience on Roy already is laughable really.
SuperMikey Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Roy is too British for them. They need a manager with a bit of flair and they also need to spend some serious $ in the January window. They're lacking quality without Mascherano and Xavi Alonso.
swannymere Posted 17 October, 2010 Share Posted 17 October, 2010 Roy didn't set the world on fire when he joined Fulham, there is too much bull**** coming from the press, they moan when a manager is sacked after a short period in charge and yet will perpetuate a situation like this. For what its worth all the Liverpool fans i know know this season is a write off, they trust Roy and like Roy and want him given the time and funds to rebuild. He's spent a lot of money already and it's mostly been on either crap or players they don't need. Joe Cole - Crap out wide and not as good as Gerrard through the middle. Konchesky - Fulham was his level. Meireles - Decent player when he's played in the middle, terrible outwide or just behind the striker where Roy seems to want to play him. Poulsen - Terrible player. Brad Jones - Why spend money on a goalkeeper when you're skint? pointless. 20 odd million and the team would be better off if he hadn't spent a penny of it. He sets up the team to be far too negative, I've never seen a Liverpool side be so un-bothered about getting and keeping the ball, it's crazy. It's not suprise Torres is getting the hump, he spends all game running the channels with no service. One of the best strikers in the world and he's using him like he's Bobby Zamora. As they dumped one of the two french keepers for what he did at the memorial service for those that died at Hillsborough and the other has only played 7 cup games in 3 seasons, they needed a decent no 2. Agree most are pretty dross, although Roy didn't know new funds were going to be available and got what he could, which was the same as Benetiz did who surprisingly turn his tranfers into profit. H&G bought Liverpool for £175m and got £300m for it, not bad when they didn't use their money!

Joe Cole - Crap out wide and not as good as Gerrard through the middle. Pretty much the whole football world thought he was a good signing, as do i, but i sort of agree he doesn't fit the system Konchesky - Fulham was his level. Better than what they had at Liverpool though Meireles - Decent player when he's played in the middle, terrible outwide or just behind the striker where Roy seems to want to play him. Good player, i like him and think he will do well Poulsen - Terrible player. Not seen him play really, he has a good reputation from Italy, but he was never going to cover the loss of Mascherano Brad Jones - Why spend money on a goalkeeper when you're skint? pointless. If Reina got injured they would have been knackered, but they did spend a significant sum on him 20 odd million and the team would be better off if he hadn't spent a penny of it. There is no way they would have been better off had they not spent any money, Liverpool are in a dire state right now and a lot of it is attributed to Benitez who spend a fortune, the majority of which on players that didn't cut it or never actually got a game. The system he plays is because of the staff he has and is also pretty similar to what was being played under Rafa but with worse players than when Rafa first arrived. His only real striker with any pedigree is Torres who TBF played on his own a lot under Rafa and did well, but atm he is clearly lacking confidence, doesn't want the ball and is a shadow on the pitch. He really should have spent some cash on a striker to partner Torres, Ngog isn't really good enough, although he has surprised me with his goalscoring in Europe. But other than Ngog who else is there ?? Midfield is significantly weaker than any Liverpool team i can remember. Defence is ailing. Rafa really has knackered them, look at the players that have left under his tenure and no one of a class even close to them has come back in. Andy_Porter Posted 19 October, 2010 Share Posted 19 October, 2010 Don't get me wrong I am not in anyway defending Benitez. He made some god awfull signings, Johnson for 17m and Aquilani for 20m have to go down as two of the worst signings of last summer. Johnson looked half decent when he had Kuyt and Mascherano covering him, without them he's nothing. You fancy any winger who gets one on one with him now. Aquilani is just a waste of space, he was never going to cut it in England. Joe Cole is obviously a talented player, but the problem is fitting him in the team. They lack width if he plays on the left and Gerrard is better than him through the middle IMO so you're stuck trying to fit him in really. Meireles looked great at the world cup as a defensive midfielder, but for some reason Hodgson has played him every where but his proper position. Sometimes at right wing to cover Johnson and sometimes right behind the striker, it's just bizzare management, they don't have very many defensive midfielders who can do a job and he still can't get a game there. If he played in his proper position it might allow Gerrard and Cole the freedom they need to affect games. I honestly wouldn't be suprised if Hodgson is sacked/resigned/mutual consent after they lose to Napoli, I have never seen a Liverpool side anywhere near this bad. SuperMikey Posted 19 October, 2010 Share Posted 19 October, 2010 -----------------------REINA--------------------- JOHNSON----CARRAGHER----AGGER----KONCHESKY ---------------------MEIRELES------------------- -------RODRIGUEZ----GERRARD----COLE---------- ----------------TORRES-----KUYT---------------- That's a decent enough team tbh. Top 4 possibly. They really do need to strengthen though. Their biggest mistakes were selling Alonso and Mascherano, Alonso especially because he was central to how they attacked. They're not the same side without somebody with the creativity and defensiveness to sit in front of the back 4 and break up play like Alonso did. Oh well. Andy_Porter Posted 19 October, 2010 Share Posted 19 October, 2010 That's a good team if you can get Cole, Gerrard and Torres all playing while at the same time stopping the opposition wingers get anywhere near the full backs. Can't think of a 'top' team anywhere with such poor full backs.
