It was disturbing... yet epic. Lol beating that sick f*ck over the head was a truly satisfying moment. I thought Combo was a right C*nt, How wrong I was.

brilliant, brilliant series and a great film. Gritty, disturbing, yet sill humourous in place. Shane Meadows take a bow, one of the best directors and screen writers around.

The r*pe scene at the end of the third show was probably the most difficult thing i've ever tried to watch on tele, it felt gratuitous to me at the time but now I've seen how well it set up Lol's Dad for a fall it was superbly done.

IN some ways you hope so but other ways you hope not. Be hard to top that as a film and a series and wouldn't want it to be a let down, a big like the new series of Inbetweeners is turning out to be.

I saw some of the 3rd episode I think. Wife thought it was going to be crap cause its about football so wasnt interested. There was naff all else on so I flicked it over. Saw some which didnt look too interesting (I put that down to not seeing the other episodes or the film so didnt know WTF was going on) Next thing I knew I was watching the r*pe scene others have mentioned and I was disturbingly hooked. One of those times when you are shocked at what your watching but find it hard to look away. Hard hitting viewing for sure.

 

Wife was asking last night when its next on and we had already missed it so will be on the look out for on demand for the whole series.

i'd agree with that, but then you knew the characters better and the series was 4 hours so had more time for plots and sub plots to unfold. It was belting.

Wondered if some of the actors were ad-libbing or improvising. It is the only explanation for somw woeful performances.

Yeah there was obviously the odd football clip in it and I suppose you could catch it at the wrong time and think it was all about it.

Too true. She is a complete and utter mong. Her face is quite funny to look at though. And she doesn't look quite as bad in real life;

Warp Records (Films) made '86...just thinking what a stonking musical backdrop a '90 or '94 could have.

I thought the series was good, in fact beter than the film but I agree it is far from his best work. Dead man's shoes is a must see movie.

Err read it again,

 

"my wife thought it would be crap cause it's about football" was my wife's thoughts. When she actually watched it she was well into it as it was about so much more and the football bit was just the time all of it was going on. It wasn't what my wife expected and when all the episodes are available she wants to watch them. Either download of 4od.

Thoroughly enjoyed the series. But was bothered by the easily rectified inaccuracies for example some of the phrases "move on" , "whatever" never used back then and the endless "high-fiving" and "man-hugging". Still look forward to This Is England 90 though...

I've got the film on DVD, I loved it, but the series seemed to lose it's way towards the end
