Turkish Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 (edited) In between all the moaning and negativity and in the absense of a proper south coast derby again this season, we have the small matter of Bournemouths second cup final of the season. Despite their attempts at creating a rivalry i feel no animosity towards them at all, in fact a little sympathy that they are that deluded they think we care about them and sad that they dont actually have a local rival of their own in the same way that us and Skates have each other. The atmosphere will be okay as they'll probably bring a fair amount of fans and no doubt of few "lads" from either side will be up for it, i'd like to see them put in their place as they have had a decent start to the season and am not overly confident of a result, but am i alone in being no more arsed about this game than any other this season? I have family from B'mouth so means a bit to me to win more than other games. Also any game where we can get a bigger crowd is good for me.
jonesyboyo Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 It's a shame that it will likely be our biggest home gate - outside any xmas fixtures that is. They might think we give a sh*t about them
Matthew Le God Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 The AFC Bournemouth website and a few other national and local media outlets are calling it the "New Forest Derby".
scott_saints Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Just checked their forum a minute ago, and what a shock- the place is filled with threads about the game already. But I still don't see it atall as any sort of derby or rivalry. In truth, I probably care about it SLIGHTLY more than most games, but this is only based on knowing how much it means to THEM. If they win, I actually reckon it would be kinda cute to see them celebrate.
aintforever Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 It is good to have a derby without a load of mongs trying to fill each others faces in though.

sandwichsaint Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Call me old skool but I regard Brighton as more of a derby.
Turkish Posted 27 September, 2010 Author Posted 27 September, 2010 Call me old skool but I regard Brighton as more of a derby. me too.
alehouseboys Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 As neither Southampton or Bournemouth are in the... ...New Forest this seems to be a f'kin stupid way of describing a a football match between two teams that's only a 'derby' as were around 35 miles apart on the south coast. Does anyone from Southampton really feel any kind of dislike of the place? It's just a nice place to go to in the summer and somewhere our mum's/nan's were evacuated to in wartime. I can't help liking the place. (f'kin sausages for fingers)
Crazy Diamond Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 As I've previously mentioned, I worked for AFC Bournemouth last season. Bournemouth fans hate Southampton FC, its supporters and those associated with it. Part of this is due to our apparent lack of respect for them. Which I find laughable to be quite honest when the facts are considered, and quite simply they are a small club and possess a small club mentality. There were numerous occasions last season in which my colleagues and I were incredibly frustrated by the club's lack of ambition off the pitch. For example, at their new kit launch (which was delayed until many weeks into the season due to problems with their kit's manufacturer), the promotion of the event was so dismal, less than ten people turned up. Sounds like a minor gripe, but given the club needed every single penny and pride themselves on having a great relationship with their fans, it was a tad stupid. From my own point of view, I'd like us to beat them for the three points but also because their fans need to get over this apparent hatred for us. It's silly. Here's something to make you laugh. Their talismanic club legend Steve Fletcher threw his toys out of the pram last season because his picture wasn't featured on the side of a bin lorry, with Jason Pearce getting the nod instead. Oh dear...
Matthew Le God Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 As neither Southampton or Bournemouth are in the No, but it is the most notable thing in the 30 miles between the two.
latter day saint Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 looking forward to the game as it will hopefully be good atmosphere & a large crowd but i feel no rivalry towards them. find it funny that so many of there fans hate us.

ericb Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 This is just another game to most i think, though it should be a decent test of where we're at under Atkins seeing as we've beaten them once this season and they're in good form. Would like to make the away game as i have a lot of friends that are cherries from working there, but got a feeling i've not been to enough away games to make it happen.

FFS, he's been here for a couple of weeks, and we were heavily linked previously, so why don't you know how to spell his name? Adkins.
ericb Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 yeah spelling errors are the most important thing in the world EVA!!! that wasn't a waste of a post at all was it?
Miffy Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 (edited) Any good chants for Eddie ("I turned the job down") Howe? How about 'Does your Chairman know you're here?' Edited 27 September, 2010 by Miffy corrected my 'your'.... I think, before the grammer police step in.
Dalek2003 Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Whatever people might say they have DESERVED bragging rights at the moment. A good solid victory is needed to put them in their place.
Tractor_Saint Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Whatever people might say they have DESERVED bragging rights at the moment. A good solid victory is needed to put them in their place. This. Let's whoop their asses and say it on the pitch.

Again I will say it, no matter how silly or crap the threads are, you or others can always turn it into something entertaining just from something someone says. It is just like any conversation you would have in a pub after a few pints. I have noted all of these and they will be coming to a forum near you soon!!!
benjii Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Just another game. I think a big, "Welcome to our friends, The Cherries, many Saints fans' second team" announcement on the big screens should sum up the mood fairly well.

Colinjb Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Oh for pities sake. This game is NOT a Derby. I like seeing them do well! Obviously I want us to win on Saturday but if they win fair play to them. The sooner we are both above the Skates the better.
Saint_clark Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Oh, how I wish it was the REAL south coast derby coming up...
Iowsaintsfan Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Oh, how I wish it was the REAL south coast derby coming up... oh yeah me too
LostBoys Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 I find it difficult to feel this is a local derby. They are going well and I hope they carry on but not at our expense - the only thing I dislike about them is their idiot charman whose jaw is not connected to his limited number of brain cells.

saint_bert Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 It is good to have a derby without a load of mongs trying to fill each others faces in though. Obviously you were not near the train station for the cup game then. 50-60 Bmouth "fans" arrived for a "party"

adrian lord Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 They are not even on our radar, just an occasional feeder club, nothing more.
saint lard Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Just another club,3 points is what i want.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Surprised nobody has mentioned the abuse the Skates will be able to throw if the Cherries beat us, which I think there is a very good chance of them doing such is their form right now. So, the upshot is I do care about this game a bit more than other games and I want us to tonk them frankly.
West End Saint Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Not a derby in my mind I have always liked the Cherries as long as they finish below us I wouldnt mind them getting promoted. Very important we win we must get our 1st home league win if we are going to kick start our season dont care who the oppo is we just need the 3 points.

keithd Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 whats the distance? about 35 miles? not REALLY a derby is it. i think local rivals would be a better description. altho the definition of a derby is a game between local rivals. anyway.. im going horse racing
Miltonaggro Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 The real derby game for Bournemuff is Weymouth, clubs of a similar size in jaded seaside resorts with little social history, who can forget the Punch and Judy riots of 1963. I'm with Miffy on the chants for Fast Eddie the too late skate...
eelpie Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Mark my words. Pompey will be relegated and Saints, Brighton and Bournemouth promoted. Times they are a changing. New era, new rivalries.
Dr Who? Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Mark my words. Pompey will be relegated and Saints, Brighton and Bournemouth promoted. Times they are a changing. New era, new rivalries. I think that Brighton have a very good future ahead of them. A great manager, and flying at the moment. If they get promoted which I think they will (Bouremouth will drop away) they then have their new stadium next season which will take them back to the big time. I see Brighton like us in the premier league in the near future and the Skates going the other way with Bournemouth.
JRM Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Whats the latest on ticket sales for this game? If we can get a win at yeovil tonight it would be good to see the crowd up to 25-26k. As for the rivalry their fans will be giving it the big one again in town being abusive to any saints fans who walk past yates, any of you who have a 'soft spot' for them should pop in and buy them a pint
The Cat Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Like others I find it quite amusing how much they hate us while we generally respond by going "meh" One sad sap has been writing anti Saints songs all over my mates Facebook page, songs that P*mpey sing. He's just a poor little scummer etc etc. Quite strange that they hate us loads yet can't come up with any of their own songs to back this up. I hope we nick the game with a last minute winner from substitute Lallana. That will really send them home with their zimmer frames between their legs.

Brighton are a bigger club than their surroundings allow at the moment, but still not as big as the likes of us, Forest, Derby, Leicester, Boro, Sheff Utd etc, It might enable them to stay in the CCC but they'd have to punch above their weight to go any higher.
trousers Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Just booked tickets for the game. First of the season for me. Plastic Saints supporters of the world unite!
