Guly

good players with positional awareness and a deft touch do not necesarily need to run around. What a sight it would be to watch a tream of men running around for the sake of satisfying a small section of the fanbase who have been brought up thinking that.

Saints fans of all people should not need reminding of this.

Football is like sexual intercourse, sometimes you need a partner to thrash maniacally about (route 1), other times you need someone to just be in the right place at the right time and to do not much else.

i am who i am.

or should I say; i is who i is?

either way, i would like it put on record that I really really rate Guly.

fwiw I would not be too miffed if NA let Rickie go in january to (fail at a higher level) and replaced him with two forwards who Guli can hide behind. NA likes -4-2 and RL is not imho a 4-4-2 player. Other teams have sussed him out and he knows it, NA knows it and we (if we are honest with ourselves) know it. we could get a decent price for Rickie and THAT would present the biggest test for Adkins, in that he would have a decent war chest with which to replace him with 2 or even 3 hungry, eager to learn and please, players.

In fact, if Rickie is staying then I would really love Saints to go and get Simeon Jackson so that we could have him and Guli scoring for fun from behind Rickie playing as decoy.

let it be written.

I saw Guly for the first time on tuesday and when he was put in central midfield he looked a very decent player. Very Vierra like in his running and aggresion.Obviously not likely to be as good but he will become a real top player for us if he adapts to the new climate and club. When he scored he did not run to the fans but to Fonte.

I hope he fits in, if he does we have a new hero for the future

The couple of times i have watched him I thought that he found space quite naturally but the supporting playrs weren't expecting it or were not up to his level of forward thinking.

At Swindon he got the ball in the 18 yard box, looked around to see RL and others stood like statues and dinked it over the top into space, they should have chased it imo. Or perhaps he needs to be told to do some fancy flick type attempts on goal next time? I view him as a MLT type player when MLT was just breaking into the 1st team.

We do 'Statues' very well at St Marys. I've seen too many balls being dinked into spaces where fitter and more imaginative forward players would be expected to be found waiting for the clever ball. The worst of it is that the provider will the be derided by the fans for a wasted ball, maybe he should have passed the ball in the opposite direction, our half of the pitch, where RL seems to spend much of his ame these days!

We desperately need more imagination, flair, and forward thinking if we are ever going to have aspirations of playing in the higher leagues. I would love to see a more 'Goal Hanging' from our forward team, we have a pretty good defence, we should be worrying the opositions goalmouth more, IMVHO ;)

Im not convinced by guly. okay he scored and hit the post but did very little else. he spent most of the time giving the ball back to our own players through five yard passes. Yes I did notice he had speed but only once when he ran across to the Yeovil home stand to celebrate his goal. also looking at is sprint could me he is relatuively fit and the rest of the team are unfit and there fore could keep pace with him to celebrate the goal.

He is certainly not a papa waigo or anttoniou. For me the jury is out on this player holmes has more creativiy

Agreed, I miss the air of 'What he going to do now' that the player like Papa and in the past Fabrice brought into our game play, its a missing element in our game plan I fear :-(. As for the Team fitness, beyond me how 'Professionals' can turn up for the season out of shape, or the club allows them to do so. Colchester didn't have our skill set, but they ran rings around us and could react to the ball before our players took 2 paces, NOT GOOD ENOUGH! If Gully highlights the teams inadequate state of fitness the it might do us a bit of good.

Re: the bit in bold. After seeing Gulys performance today it's clear what was happening in the Yeovil game as it says above. Guly loves to flick the ball on to a team mate first time, and today it worked so well especially in the first 20 minutes. All of our players were aware of his ability today and got into good positions around him. At Huish Park they obviously weren't prepared for it.

He was MOTM today, shame he couldn't last the full 90.

Well what a surprise, a lot of people on here wrote him off after what ? 5 mins at Bristol Rovers and a JPT game against Swindon where everybody was crap !

Talk about jumping the gun.

Its clear to see that the guy has taken a little while to adapt to the different lifestyle in a country he has never been to before, and more importanatly he has had to get used to the speed and intensity of the English game.

Yesterday showed signs that he has settled more and that he has picked up an understanding of how the English game works. His workrate was very good as was shown by his closing down and chasing a lost cause to get the ball back for the opening goal.

He looked, to me, like he will be one hell of a player for us.......just hope the English winters dont disagree with him !
