spyinthesky Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 What's to become of Gin Gan? Looked good in the video (but who wouldn't) and we all expected the real deal. Pardew, Wilkins and now Atkins don't seem to rate him and it must be assumed the signing was a Cortese inspired faux pas. Very unlikely the option will be taken up post January (but Tone Pulis's was so anything can happen). Would be interested to learn how much Guly's loan period will cost the club
Chicken With A Banjo Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 There is still time for him to settle. Your comments are needlessly premature.
Colinjb Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 It may well be the need for him to adjust to the pace/fitness requirements of the english game. (Or some similar cliché) When I saw him v Rochdale he reminded me a lot of Belmadi, technically able but not on the same wavelength as the players around him. I suspect there will be a lot more to come from him.
Joesaint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 I think he will be good, but must be given time to build an understanding with the other players, as well as adjust to the tempo of the game.
S-Clarke Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 i think he's **** how have you come to that conclusion when he's barley played for us?
Big John Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 It may well be the need for him to adjust ... .... not on the same wavelength as the players around him. The couple of times i have watched him I thought that he found space quite naturally but the supporting playrs weren't expecting it or were not up to his level of forward thinking. At Swindon he got the ball in the 18 yard box, looked around to see RL and others stood like statues and dinked it over the top into space, they should have chased it imo. Or perhaps he needs to be told to do some fancy flick type attempts on goal next time? I view him as a MLT type player when MLT was just breaking into the 1st team.
brmbrm Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Same thiongs were said of waigo after a few matches.....
cellone Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Used to running a different race. If he gets the right training and the right direction he will hit a vain come oct.
Professor Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Anyone know if he can speak English? Presumably his native tongue is Portugese but he must be fluent in Italian after playing there for several years. Apart from Cortese, does the club have any Italian speakers? If there is a language issue, it will take longer to get him to play as Adkins wants, even if he has the ability
Saint_clark Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Obviously I have no idea if he's good or not but I think he's gonna go down as another Pekhart, Sarmiento etc.
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 September, 2010 Posted 26 September, 2010 Better than what we have here and plays to that game unfortunately. Ince went through a similar thing when playing for Wolves apparantly and had to pretty much completely adapt his game as the players around him were not as good as his thinking. I have seen plenty of fantastic ball players made to look like c*nts by p*ss poor movement, unfortunately thats what we have had this year and its not always easy to spot who is actually in the wrong.
a1ex2001 Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 I think he will look a better player with Lallana in the team and Rickie looking like he might be getting his form back, he's clearly a clever player and needs to be playing with other players of a similar nature. I can see him and Adam building a decen understanding as they are on the same wave length football wise and hopefully that will drag a few others up to the same level.

I maintain that was the reason why i never made it. Always thinking about 5 steps ahead of the gash that was round me. Touch, vision and passing of Michel Plantini, surounded by Michelle Fowlers.

fish fingers Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 i think he's **** A well formed judgement.
lambertsrightleg Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 A well formed judgement. thanks, i thought so
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 The lad has unbelievable tekkers. Just give him time to find his mojo.
Joensuu Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Pardew, Wilkins and now Atkins don't seem to rate him and it must be assumed the signing was a Cortese inspired faux pas. How many games could he have played under Pardew? Answer 1 How many appearences did he make under Pardew? Answer 1 Therefore, can I challenge your assumption that Pardew didn't seem to rate him. And therefore can I challenge your assumption that Guilherme's signing was 'Cortese inspired'? As I feel he is still finding his feet and adjusting the UK, I would also like to challenge your assumption that this is a 'faux pas' at all. However, I can only conclude that you have started a thread not to comment on a player you have barely seen on the pitch, but instead to try to have a pop at Cortese (with no evidence) from a different angle.
spyinthesky Posted 27 September, 2010 Author Posted 27 September, 2010 Fair comments but didn't he only come on as a sub for Pardew and has only stated the one game under Wilkins v Swindon? Guly was signed under Pardew's stewardship and, for a lot of people, he did not seem to be a 'Pardew' type player ie English speaking and used to the hurly burly of League 1. I sincerely hope that Guly does make an impression here but if I was a manager, or indeed a Chairman, I would hope that any acquisition would be able to make an instant impact especially as named player is unlikely to have come as a cheap and cheerful signing.
benjii Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 We needed cover at CM with some attacking ability. He provides cover at CM and has some attacking ability. Could not care less whether he displaces MS or Hammond - he will be there when we need him when one of them picks up a suspension (as they undoubtedly will soon).

Why do people keep bleating on about cover. We dont need cover, we need players better than what we have to raise the standard of the squad. Not someone happy to sit on the bench in case in injuries or suspensions.

Unfortunately you have a touch like platini with a face like sloth and physique of chunk from the goonies but with none of the cuteness.

Wayne Rooney seems to do alright for birds, i'm sure i'd be fine. Cross between Jan Mobly and Peter Beardsley, we'd still pull though. And as your best mate, i'd be duty bound to loosen a few sl*ts up for you, thats what friends are for.

Or we could go all out for the spit roast with a high five half way through ?? That would be awesome, and all the time i can stare into your boss eyes and wonder how you managed to shave yourself close enough to reveal your tiny bell end ? I'd still compliment you though

Benjii I do believe Guly has a bit of talent but would really worry about him replacing Morgan or Hammond primarily because, from what I have seen, he may be unable to fit into a League 1 central midfield system where tackling ability and communication are particular requirements. Perhaps right or left midfield would be Ok but not central

Anyway, continuing down this new direction, would your friend be happy to stir your custard?
benjii Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 COVER COVER COVER FFS!!! Why do people keep bleating on about cover. We dont need cover, we need players better than what we have to raise the standard of the squad. Not someone happy to sit on the bench in case in injuries or suspensions. What I meant by that was that we needed another CM, as the only other one we have is Wotton who is ok at what he does but is hardly a replacement for the other two. Whether that player gets in the team immediately or not is irrelevant as our team is one of the very best in the division already.
benjii Posted 27 September, 2010 Posted 27 September, 2010 Benjii I do believe Guly has a bit of talent but would really worry about him replacing Morgan or Hammond primarily because, from what I have seen, he may be unable to fit into a League 1 central midfield system where tackling ability and communication are particular requirements. Perhaps right or left midfield would be Ok but not central He put some good tackles in against Bristol Rovers and looks a strong athlete so I wouldn't be too worried about that. He's there, he's an option on the bench, he's not cluttering the squad as we have very few CMs so I don't see what the problem is. If we can get a CM in who's much better than MS or DH and can go straight into the team then great. If he was a LB, LM or CB for example then I would question his signing as we're already well covered there.
spyinthesky Posted 28 September, 2010 Author Posted 28 September, 2010 Fair enough I will be delighted if he is here in January ie beyond the initial loan period, on the basis that the Manager (or the corporate team management committee) feel that he is worthy of retaining. However on the basis of current form I think this may be in doubt

scotty Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Yeah, he's not Turkish at all. He should be called Bishops walthamish I heard he carries a doner card. Nothing to do with his kidneys but to get a discount in the kebabberie.
niceandfriendly Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Gooooallllly guly guly goaly goaly
paris Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 I see some of the football people where right about him NOT...........
LVSaint Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Shot off the post too in the dying moments tonight. Let's hope he can carry on.
Saint_clark Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Scored the goal, hit the post, did little else of note. Clearly not a winger as I lost count of the amount of times he refused to run down the line providing an option for the pass.
buctootim Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Scored the goal, hit the post, did little else of note. . Reminds me of what they used to say about MLT
Saint_clark Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 Reminds me of what they used to say about MLT Not quite. MLT was still a good player whereas Gulys crossing was poor and - for someone so tall - his aerial ability was non-existent.
Block 5 Posted 28 September, 2010 Posted 28 September, 2010 I thought Guly looked good tonight. A good goal and he the hit the post. But also his movement on and off the ball was good. He got into some great positions and really attacked the box. It would have been interesting to see him start; but maybe he is just another 'impact' player?
teamsaint Posted 29 September, 2010 Posted 29 September, 2010 if he turns out to be good, we might do worse than use lambo/guly/lallana in a 3, similar to the Dowie/MLT /Eckelund combo.(with LB being a quality option) Punch/Hammond/MS would be a competitive midfield 3.
